- I Bought the FIRST BROKEN Xbox Series X Controller - Can I Fix It? When I plugged the controller in it had no power and didn't respond at all. While diagnosing the issue I discovered some gunk on some of the motherboard components. I decided to reflow the main chip on the motherboard in case this BGA chip wasn't fully connected. And that got it to work...until I put it all back together. So it was back to doing more testing to see what was causing the problem.

If one can easily get piles of broken PS5 controllers, but finding a single broken Series X controller is noteworthy, that definitely speaks a lot on their respective quality.
kind of odd that folks sell them on ebay instead of getting a warranty replacement, it's only been like 4 months since the consoles came out
The man who is always so happy to buy broken stuff. đ
This was actually really interesting because it was a novel problem you couldn't fix so easily. You were able to figure out the limits of the problem and you basically have a really good idea about the culprit, but could also be still wrong. Intriguing indeed. If it was just a totally unknown situation of not even able to turn the controller on, it would be far less interesting.
I hope a bunch of broken Xbox series X controllers break so we can get the âI bought 15 broken Xbox series x controllersâ video can be a thing, great video man
Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the same issue. If I disconnect the wire it works for up to 20 feet though. Itâs not a huge deal, just curious.
I just got an iFixit Kit and it comes today, I also bought a cheap xbox controller that has sticky buttons icant wait to get it apart and fix it! :D
When u r so fast even the âwhoâs been a true fan for over a yearâarenât here
If it smelled like a perfume, they probably had sticky buttons on their controller as that's what I used to do. Now saying my old controller smell.
Who is here after Junaid akram and Ali akbar show?
Today we have no perfect amount of Thermalpaste... but we still learn A Lot. THUMBS UP Steve đđđ
Those appear to be two patch antennas by design (can't see other side of the board to confirm). What you have may be a 1T2R configuration: 1 transmit, 2 receive. So the faulty path is one of the receives which would explain why your reception suffers. Wireless reception is influenced by the square of the distance you are from the source (electrical engineers are taught this in first year). You were on the right track looking at the components in the receive chain.
Great content! I love seeing inside of expensive things. I've also been inspired to try and fix some of my own devices!
