You can change the subtitles. But you can’t change the stick of truth.

They need to release a patch for the stick of truth and the fractured but whole, because the subtitles refer to him as token, this is the best gaslight ever
I wonder if they still remember those games exist.
Games ungaslight us for good
the games were fun to watch people do playthroughs because im too broke to afford to play it myself
@@evanchismark3092 of course they do those games did soo good and they put do much effort into them. They are also making a third one.
@@cloud99955 If they make another one they should try and do a video game parody of Persona 5.
You make your own character, have a calendar the game advances through and have a separate combat world for all rhe fighting and video game stuff.
It would let them keep the "ordinary kids having fun by day/super powered badasses in disguise by night" aesthetic while also skyrocketing the flexibility of combat systems by making it separate enough so there's no risk of breaking suspension of disbelief.
On top of all that, you'd basically have 6 different games to experience as you'd need to make a new file to see how the game plays
1. When you side with Cartman all the time
2. When you side with Stan all the time
3. When you side with Kyle
And you get the point, just make a relationship stat for each character, and the story and dialogues you unlock will reflect whatever characters you bond with the most/least
Headcanon: Tolkien doesn’t mind being called Token, Tolkien actually says that he does not like Lord of the Rings referring to it as “fantasy dragon shit” and even spells his own name as Token in one episode, implying he’s not terribly fond of his name
Maybe he was mad at his parents
That's a good headcanon.
my personal headcanon is his name is actually Tolkien, but every kid at the school heard him say "Token", and they thought it was funny since his last name is Black (hence his name sounding like "token black"), so everyone called him Token, and it just grew on him/he stopped trying to correct ppl until like high school XD
@@scxtts-wxrld I swear they changed his last name to Williams at some point.
@keltzy that was probably a joke about how Williams is a very common last name for black families.
I love how because Stan still says Token, you know it wasn’t just a search and replace, but they went through all the subtitles themselves and changed it manually
Lol they probably did use a search and replace and then go back and change Stan’s lines in those episodes specifically. Would legit take forever otherwise
You can leave some instances of a word alone using search and replace if you want to.
Or more like they had a team of poor interns do it. Lol. Still, dedication to the bit.
I just want to think about how long it took the South Park Wiki to fix all of the scripts
I swear to god this episode drove me nuts. Token’s name has gotta be one of the biggest mindfucks of all time. They can retcon their show but they can’t retcon my memories!

Dude, it’s always been Tolkien. When I watched South Park on Comedy Central with subtitles it was always Tolkien.
Nah, the funniest part isn't the lengths they went to gaslight people. It's the amount of newer south park watchers that fully bought into it and believed they'd made the same mistake as stan.
Lol yeah
People don’t believe they made the same mistake as Stan, they started calling him Tolkien because that’s his official name now. The reason it’s “gaslighting” is because the show is jokingly saying his name was Tolkien all along.

Facts. Like if you watch the series where it's streaming and turn on captions they spell his name as Tolkien when anyone but stan says it
Thats hilarious that they changed all the subtitles except for Stans....
Except for the fact that Token refers to himself as TOKEN. One example is in fatty doo doo. His production company name is “Token Black productions”
I have a feeling they were told to do this by Paramount or something. They've said the explanation for Token referring to himself as Token is "aliens".
I am worried that big production companies are trying to manipulate the writers, knowing that they're pretty much the last bastion of dark humour on TV.

I like the theory that the entirety of South park is just Stan reliving childhood memories so the reason why all of the previous references to tokens name was just Stan misunderstanding Tolkiens name

Really had me questioning myself
In the episode world war zimmerman the police find carmans journal with the description of patient zero and it is a picture of Token and the name "TOKEN" is written under it. Finaly, competitive gaslighting.
One reference to "token" has slipped in "raising the bar" on the studio card for his production agency for fatty doo doo.
I haven't seen this much gaslighting since my last relationship
I would like to point out that they still have his name written as token in the actual animation and that includes the pandemic episode during virtual class, look at his name and it shows token not Tolkien.
Omg I saw the subtitles earlier and thought I was losing my mind!
In the episode where the boys open a talent agency, Tolkien signs his name as Token, and in the episode “raising the bar”, his studio is called Token Black Productions. The next step in committing to the bit would be going back through old episodes and editing them to follow the changes
The next level would be going back to every episode and editing any instance in which Tolkien’s name shows up as a word
My only complaint about this gaslight was how absolutely insufferable fans got afterwards repeating what the doctor said.
yeah esp for comments that were made before the ep's release (and even so, not everyone has seen it or cares enough to spell it that way)

It’s so far even my friend though we were gaslighted for knowing it was a gaslight 😂😂😂😂😂
Just watch the episode where token signs a contract to let the boys be his manager , he signs it “token”
The matrix is cracking
Ok hear me out, Tolken admits that he hates LOTR and The Hobbit in this episode, and that he would prefer people not bringing attention to his name. What if Tolken spells his name as a Token to distance himself from J.R.R Tolken, so he writes it in a way that is pronounced the same. And sense he's a kid he might not realize what that nickname would mean
I mean obviously this is just my head canon and it's just a Mistake but idk

No shit
He just misspelt it
@@UniversusVasatorBy two letters? I don't think so.

I noticed the subtitle thing too! Thought it was hilarious!
I got it during the episode about LoTR. Like "Oh.. that's what it is.".
Even better. Tolkien doesn't like his name because he doesn't like the lord of the rings. Better, he watched backdoor sluts 9 , thinking it was lord of the rings. How could anyone like their namesake when he wrote such filth.
It'd be funny if later on, Stan brings up the "Token's Life Matters" shirt, and Cartman reveals that there's actually a veeeery tiny "i" and "l" on the shirt. When Stan asks why the fuck it's like that, Cartman responds that he knew about Stan's misunderstanding and did it intentionally to fuck with him.
I think they specifically address it in the episode and Kyle's(?) Response is just "Cartman's fucking stupid and can't spell dude you really thought it was Token?"
“You’re not dealing with the average gaslighting anymore.”
Comedy Central is still running the unedited, non-gaslight versions of episodes. Just a fact I learned recently.
Also, in the South Park mobile game, they changed every card that had tokens name on it to Tolkien
I haven't been watching South Park for a long time, so this sudden switch really made me wonder if I was drawing fake connections when he was first introduced
Thank goodness for this explanation. I assumed I was stupid
He literally spells it "Token" when he signs a contract. It's still hilarious when you see the new subtitles
They also didn't change his name for the COVID 19 special. His zoom name is "Token Black" there
the only places that havent changed his name to tolkien are the games (except for phone destroyer) and old episodes that had his name written out. though itd be really funny if they somehow went out of their way to change the spellings to tolkien on hbo max, bcuz that would be maximum gaslighting
This shit was super funny. Especially back tracking old episodes just to fuck with people 😆🤣
In their mobile app phone destroyer, they change his name to Tolkien
i’m unhealthily obsessed with this show(to the point where i can explain the plot of an episode with a single screenshot, i need help, i know) and most of the inconsistencies in this show are infuriating but i find this one actually humorous
I've actually been on a South Park binge and this blew my mind. At this point, I honestly hear Tolkien whenever Cartman says it
