I just really love how fleshed out the main character gets in supplementary material.

I love how atlus will lay down bread crumbs of backstory or personality for their protagonist and people will create these deep fun characters with them

da fuck... how have I never thought of that before. Yu/Soji having parents that move around often works so well for the story. Having that missing piece added to his character just makes him all the more better.

I like the take on Souji's character that different from most trope Persona protagonists have (emotionless, deadpan, etc.)

I just finished reading the manga and I totally agree. Man, some scenes in the manga were just so much better than the game. I think my favorites were:
    - Yukiko’s awakening- the memories they were able to show between her and Chie added so much and was really sweet.
-Nanako running away: wow, the scenes of nanako’s mother were great. I cried big tears here, I think because of how they used flashbacks
-nanako’s brief death: this really got me, it was a sad moment in the game but the manga did a great job in showing the hopelessness and just how much her death affects the IT, dojima and especially soji- I really felt his anger towards namatame in a way the game didn’t make me feel.
    - Adachi fight: it felt a lot more climactic, seeing Adachi wipe out half the team with ease then reflect on his bonds… maybe it’s just because game wise you can beat him super quick- but I liked this in the manga much more.
Thanks for covering this manga! I was also confused by p3’s manga adaptation so I was pleasantly surprised by p4’s manga.

Protag relating to Nanako is GENIUS writing. Adachi is my favorite Persona villain because he mirrors the protag. They give be rivalry on Batman and Joker level where the battle in ideology. Shido didnt feel like that at all for P5 protag, he was just... some guy

That's understandable! Persona 4 isn't my favorite these days (P3 and Automata are my two favorite games), but it was my favorite like 6ish years ago so it was nice to revisit it through the manga

I have Golden on My PS4 and i'm definitely looking forward to playing it(Really wish it along with Portable got a physical edition though) but it's nice to know how the manga added these elements to some of the characters especially Narukami and Yosuke. I don't necessarily think Narukami or Joker being involved with each party members development/Social link is a problem since I took it more as showing why they can depend on them as leaders as well as how great a friend they are to them but I get why to some it doesn't feel natural. Then again I think Movie Minato has more of a personality than game Minato.

I did actually the enjoy the bond between Yosuke and Naoki. I know I criticized it before I like what they did with this.

Persona will always have a silent protag so people can create their own personality for them but I'm a sucker for the canon material. That's why I love the P4 anime cause Yu is THE BEST. I love any hint of the protags own personal struggles and family life.

I'm so glad to hear that this manga fixed my biggest issue with Persona 4. I have a lot of issues, most of which were due to high expectations as P5 haters praised this game to high heaven, but the biggest one was the lack of development outside of social links. With the exception of Rise, Kanji and Naoto, every Persona 4 character fell flat for me without their social links. The manga not only fixed that but gave them their ultimate Personas too!? I don't care what anyone says, in all Persona spinoffs set after the main game, the cast should have their Ultimate/Tier 3 Personas. They're a sign of their development as characters and should not be ignored. Hopefully when Persona 6 comes around, they tie them back to story moments like in Persona 3 along with development outside of social links. They already attempted it in 5 by giving Ryuji, Makoto and Futaba arca outside their confidants. Now just spread it to everyone else!

Persona 3 and 4 Mangas are the rare examples of me liking an adaptation over the game

I get it for 4, even though I don't think it's better than the game on the whole, but I don't really understand it for 3. I thought it ruined just about everything I liked for the game. I'm curious what you got out of it? For me, I really only liked a couple moments and some of its art

@@NINJAMUSHI for 3 my opinion of the game is extremely negative. I don't like really anything besides some parts of the story. Mainly just the ending. The manga being condensed version of the game really worked for me. 3's strongest aspect is the story so the manga clicks for me

Woudn't the movies be the better choice tho? They keep most of the best stuff while adding some of its own into the mix without feeling forced.
