  • Vejer de la Frontera is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz (Andalucía). The core of the town stands on a 200-meter-high mountain, on the banks of the Barbate River and 8 kilometers from the coast.
Its walled historic center, which still preserves the castle and several significant churches, was declared a historic-artistic complex in 1976. Vejer is part of what is known as the 'Association of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain'.
Vejer has been inhabited since the early Palaeolithic and was already fortified in the Bronze Age. Remains dating from the 7th century BC have been found from Tartessian and Roman times.
Nowadays, the population lives from agriculture (generally viticulture), from wild cattle (especially from the resurgence of the Retinta breed) and from the tourism that it usually receives in summer.
