I like how the very first episode of the anime "Pokemon, I Choose You!" starts with a very similar Game Boy-like sequence between Gengar and Nidorino before transitioning into colored anime and having a live stadium battle between the two, which Ash is then watching on TV. "This could be the end of Nidorino!"
Fun fact - The music when gengar and nidorino are fighting reappears in 2 champion themes in the pokemon games. in Gold/Silver/Crystal, Red’s theme opens up with this song representing kanto and the first pokémon game. It also appears in Sun/Moon for YOUR theme since your character is originally from kanto and imo is like a huge thank you to the player and all of pokemon fans since the sun moon champion theme is so awesome

All through these past 12 years i wondered why that champion theme was so familiar to me the 1st time i heard it and now i know THIS is why! Thxxxx so much for posting this! I was 12 when this game came out. My parents told me that if I got good grades, they'd buy it for me. I busted my ass and studied hard and got the grades I needed, and my mom bought the blue version for me. To this day, pokemon holds a special place in my heart.
The anime used this into at the beginning of the first episode. It was a Gengar. Also, it resembles Gengar's back sprite from red. Other than the claws, it really looks more like gengar than snorlax.
In the very first episode of the anime show of Pokemon, Ash is watching TV the night before he goes to see professor Oak for his first Pokemon. On the screen a nidorino and a Gengar are fighting. IIRC, Bruno and Agatha (from the elite 4) are using them in a battle. I'm guessing that's how they connect.

At least 4Kids kept it that made me happy. They should have done that to other animes
They should do it with all New Region In the Anime though.
From game to anime for the first few seconds

Always thought it went for either tackle, body slam, or most likely of all horn attack. All 0 percent effective lol
Or maybe poison sting, at least its a not very effective ultra weak attack
He was using bite knowing it would turn into super effective move one generation later
And with this intro our lifelong fascination with Pokemon began.
Anyone come to see this again after watching that Poke Toons short? It was such an awesome nod to this.

Idk maybe it's because first episode of the anime had a scene like this
Because it’s the quality. No boys which looks like girls. Only quality in sound and gameplay.
