    Bad Egg is one of the most devilish anti-cheating penalties in a videogame i have seen. You forgot to they Bad Eggs have to be isolated on its own PC Box, because it can corrupt other nearby boxed pokemon and turn them into Bad Eggs.
    Deleting a Bad Egg is hard, because you can't just release it. Either you have to user external save editors or other cheat codes to delete it.
    Because Bad Eggs can be generated from cheating devices, its very dangerous to just copy and paste Gameshark/AR cheat codes from the web to use on your Pokémon game - as over the years trolls spreaded fake cheat codes made to generate more Bad Eggs.
    Also, the worst: if you try to hatch it, 90% it will hatch into another Bad Egg. If it hatches again, it not only crashes the game, but also corrupts the save file.

      Depends on the coding that gives you the egg. There "may" be a couple different bad eggs. They all just have the same sprite. Kinda like missingno except there are different pixelated missingno. I know in Fire Red some bad eggs unrelated to the national dex cheat code can cause the same anti piracy event which is where Lorelei leaves the elite 4 so you cant progress through it.
      It happened to me once when messing around on visual boy advance.

    • @TheDeepThinker-sq3iy
      @TheDeepThinker-sq3iy Před 2 lety +41

      And to add to ALL of this... bad eggs CAN'T really be isolated... over time, it WILL eventually spread to other box's.
      BUT THERE'S MORE TOO! There IS such a thing as a GOOD bad egg(alluding to the reference that *TheMagic1412* made of how there's different kinds of bad eggs)! well, not officially by name... it still says "Bad Egg" in the summery's page, and has pretty much everything else in common with your usual bad egg... except THIS type of bad egg can hatch into whatever rare or mythical pokemon that was put into the code that would give you this(almost forgot to mention, it also DOESN'T spread and infects other pokemon)! AND it can even have altered ability's or moves it shouldn't have! as well as giving it every single ribbon in the entire game...
      Back during high school that was the yester year that was the ds and ds lite era of Nintendo, I once knew a guy who had a code on diamond(cant really remember if it was a diamond version or pearl)that would give you a bad egg that would hatch into a shiny lvl 100 jirachi WITH the wonder guard ability...
      I was offered this code(I had an action reply too)but I declined... because I KNEW that messing around with bad eggs was always a written invitation for disaster. though... nothing bad ever really happened to his game. . not that I was envious or anything. I just thought that a jirachi WITH that wonder guard ability was just too much... I didn't like a pokemon that was hacked SO much that it would have things that they shouldn't have.

      Bad Eggs probably aren't really meant to be an anticheat or a punishment, they're a safety measure for if a Pokémon's internal data structure is compromised in a way that causes it to be invalid. Personally, I think they were implemented in order to assist with debugging. If while playlisting a tester runs into a serious problem, encountering a Bad Egg is a definitive sign that the game is not working as intended. It's similar to the magenta and black missing texture, it's meant to stand out and yell, "something's gone horribly wrong here!"

      @gargervon8697 Před 3 lety +106

      Action Replay and GameShark devices basically allow you to force values into a game's RAM. If you write valid data that the address is meant to use, the game won't flinch. Stuff like giving yourself 99 master balls, for instance, requires very few alterations and is a programmatically legal situation, and so will likely not create bugs. Trying to hack a pokémon into your box or party with it, though, requires correctly aligning the data in many, many addresses, and could easily cause a "bad egg" if anything was wrong or omitted in the codes.

    Weirdly enough years ago (2006 maybe) I let my friend borrow my Emerald version, but he gave it back to me the next day saying he accidentally left it in his pocket and it went through the washing machine and dryer.
    I turned it on when I got home and to my surprise I was in a glitched out version of Lilycove City with just an Anorith I had never seen before and Bad Egg in my party. Being a child I didn't know what was going on and I was a little freaked out but curious. The city's tiles were all glitched out and most of the water surrounding the city had turned into land tiles with flowers everywhere. After walking around for a while the game froze. Though thinking back maybe checking the Bad Egg's summary or sending it into battle made the game freeze.
    I reset Emerald, loaded up my file again, and my game was completely back to normal, like nothing had happened. Both the mysterious Anorith and Bad Egg were gone with me just standing in front of the Lilycove Pokémon Center like normal. To this day the game still works just fine but, I still wonder what happened to make that Bad Egg and everything else appear. I wish I could have explored that glitched city more...

      @@fgfhjfhjfbhfghf5771 Not exactly, MissingNo. actually is programmed with certain pre-defined characteristics. Most of these characteristics are just copied from another glitch Pokémon that comes first in the game's memory, but its name and its level up moves are actually defined. It's just meant to be a quick and dirty error checker to let a developer know they've encountered an invalid Pokémon more easily.

    A fitting name considering "bad egg" is (was?) often used to refer to someone that's a bad influence, the friend your parents didn't want you hanging out with.
    Also, I'd heard before it was more of a... can't think of the proper term, like a crash handler. A screen or item a game defaults to when it encounters an error to prevent crashing. I believe they're used during testing to make bugs and glitches evident. Something unexpected happened, and instead of just crashing because it doesn't know what to do, the program pops out a placeholder item or goes to a placeholder screen. Then they can more easily identify what went wrong. I believe its the same as the Chris Houlihan room in LoZ: LttP or the Dirty Cheater screen in Undertale.
    In general, they aren't intended to find cheaters, just handle unexpected events, but with a properly made game that should only be cheating. In Pokemon, I believe it can happen by getting a Pokemon to low enough health and using a berry to lower its HP EVs, giving it negative health.

      Does not surprise me. As Nintendo has a track record of doing that kind of thing. Though in a lot of cases won. But there are those that Nintendo loses and it is huge. I mean the cheat device is kind of in the hands of the end user who bought the console. It kind of isn't Nintendo's anymore.

    One way to generate a bad egg in gen 4 is to use a code to make the daycare create an egg. Such codes exist so you can put two parents in the daycare and just instantly make an egg. However, this means that it can do so without parents in the daycare. When this happens, the daycare man gives you a bad egg. The only way to hatch them is with a cheat to instant hatch them as well. In my experience, hatching the egg just created a slot in your party that looked empty, but permanently could not be filled. Very bad. Can be fixed by cloning a pokemon into the spot though. This brought back some childhood memories.

    I actually have, it was in Pokémon Platinum/gen 4, I had heard stories about it before then and I got super scared when it appeared in the PC. I BELIEVE this hatched into a Gallade, as what my memory would serve me. I also remember it being linked to either duplicating my Pokémon incorrectly, or catching trainer Pokémon in the elite four (hence Gallade from Lucian). Very nice to see some clarity in this topic after many years.

    At some point when I was using an Action Replay on Emerald, I somehow had 2 bad eggs in the daycare, and there was an egg waiting for me with the daycare man. Out of curiosity, I went to hatch it. The egg hatched into a lvl 25 egg with Thunderpunch. I gave it one rare candy and it immediately levelled up to 100. So then I had a lvl 100 egg with Thunderpunch. Sadly I no longer have neither the Action Replay, nor the Emerald cartridge. I don't know what happened to either of them.

    I’ve always had questions about the bad egg glitch because once when I was younger I was playing Pokémon FireRed and I somehow encountered some sort of bad egg glitch. My game wasn’t hacked but I remember I was using my butterfree in rock tunnel and fighting a trainer. It was one of the ones near the entrance on the left by the item you can get. I beat one of his Pokémon and idk what I did exactly but my butterfree leveled up and for some reason instead of saying it’s name it said “BAD EGG” and had weird stats and glitched healthbar. My ds was on the table when I was playing so idk if I bumped the cartridge as it leveled up but I turned off the game because I got scared I broke it. I turned it back on and it was fine. I’ve been trying to see if anyone else had this encounter before but so far I haven’t met anyone who did.
