Howard Cosell wasn't racist. But there are people that look for racism
around every corner. And if they can't find it, they'll create it.
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. What other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Yes, and they end up sabotoging their strongest supporters .
Just calling a spade a spade
Especially if they are Democrap.
Are you saying racism doesn’t exist?
I was a freshman in high school, and I was watching this game live when Cosell made the comment. He was referring to Garrett's size, athleticism, and quickness, not comparing Blacks to monkeys. I was shocked when he was fired. After seeing years of interaction between Cosell, Muhammad Ali, and other Black athletes, I knew the man was not a racist.
Howard was no racist just look at the friendship he had with Ali
Exactly!!!
That's because Howard - playing as Ali's "girlyman" - was blowing Ali and consistently swallowing. HA, HA
@@luke_skywanker7643 Watch Django unchained. I know you wont read something. So watch this movie. Its an amazing movie and I have no doubt that anyone on this earth will enjoy, but you might also learn a little something about how slave owners viewed their slaves in this country. I promise you will enjoy it though.
@@luke_skywanker7643 Quinten Tarantino, Jamie Foxx, Christoph waltz, Leonardo Dicaprio!!....Whats not to love?
@@mitchbrown6652 That was a good movie. I wish they hadn't killed off Christoph Waltz because there could have been some good sequels based on the first one.
When Alvin Garrett said he didn't think there was any racism meant by it as did Muhammad Ali as well as WHITE players he called by the same name ? The only ones offended by it were race baiters ? Told me all I needed to know.
Stop whining lol...crybaby
Thanks for saving me the trouble.
No race baiters spoke on it. The network knew he was outta line. Blackfolks understood and defended him.
The only race baiters are Aryan fanboys.
For some strange reason honesty and being candid will bite you in the butt. Today's world seems to live on a diet of BS and lies.

Howard got railroaded
Yes he did. ABC was looking for any reason to cut down the number in their "Broadcast Booth." Part of it was to get rid of Howard. At the time, ABC was hiring ex-quarterbacks because they thought they could bring in bigger audiences for Monday Night Football.

Howard Cosell was a brash New Yorker who just kept on talkin’ incessantly. Despite this, he understood sports is a form of entertainment. As a kid, I begged my parents to let me stay up late to watch MNF games on TV. When they refused, I snuck out of my bedroom and hid behind the den door to watch the games anyway. Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith did a lot to make the NFL widely popular.
Thanks for sharing this info about Howard! What other types of video would you like to see?
Turn out the lights, the party's over. Dandy Don Meredith...
The headline is wholly inaccurate. He didn't get fired, he resigned. And it didn't happen immediately.
Yeah, he resigned two years later.
Howard Cosell was NOT fired after that MNF Remark.
Exactly

@@fabiangroom3228 Howeird Cosell - a typical obnoxious New York Jew race baiter. Screw him.
This Narrator giving misleading information and history. Cosell was really technically officially fired in 1985 after he wrote the autobiography book. In particular his criticism of his long time Boss Roone Arledge.
So the monkey comment did not get Howard canned. It did force him to permanently leave calling MNF and NFL games.
FYI Besides the Sportsbeat show an early version of both ESPN’s Inside The Lines and Bryant Gumbel’s “Real Sports” Howard was with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer/Earl Weaver calling in 1984, Monday Night Baseball.
@@americangiant1003wrong
His book, "I Never Played the Game", was aptly titled because he was a serious sports journalist. Not a retired ball player.
I met Howard Cosell in 1989 at a hospital in New York City. I was friends with a boy who was dying of AIDS. The boy was a minority, by the way. Mr. Cosell was there to visit his grandson. When he heard my friend had AIDS, I was concerned that he would be upset that his grandson was in the very next room. Back then, there was a lot of fear concerning AIDS. Instead, Mr. Cosell got on his knees and hugged my friend, rocking him, with tears streaming down his face. It was one of the most beautiful gestures of love I have ever seen. Since then, I shrugged off any negative thing I heard about him because I believe I got a glimpse into his heart.
Incredible Story-!! ❤
❤️
I remember this incident. Howard Cosell represented people more honestly than any other commentator. He had a natural GOD GIVEN talent for describing our society that will NEVER be replicated. I was young when i first heard Cosell talk about Boxing. He was good.
Howard was truly one of a kind!
Interesting, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
His only "talent" was being nasally "obnoxious" (typical for a jew) and that made him one of the most hated people in the country. HA, HA
He was good, but he went exit stage left when he saw how rough Boxing can really be. Ended all ties with Boxing right after the Mancini, Kim fight.
He had a striking voice like no other!
"NASALLY" AND "WHINY" are not "striking". They are annoying but they did make me want to "strike" him repeatedly in his giant jewish proboscis many times. HA, HA
That's the NFL. Cosell's way of talking attracted millions of fans to Monday Night Football and he single handedly transformed the Half Time Highlights into an exhibition of glory. " Now, let's turn our attention to half time highlights," and with that I would get so excited. Just the way he talked. His intonations. "The speedsta from Peppadine University."
So he didn’t get fired he quit.
And, after the season was OVER.
They ran him out of Dodge...
I was watching that game, Monday Night Football.
Same
i DIDN'T NEED TO KNOW THAT. HA, HA
If I remember right, I believe Ali (and many other athletes of color, came to Cosell's defense quite quickly.

The victim industry has been alive and well for decades! Jimmy the Greek!

It was Howard who announced the death of John Lennon on Monday Football.

I remember it well😢
I remember it too, Patriots vs. Dolphins was 17 at the time
There is real racism out there, but when people cry racism at little nothings like this, it belittles the real thing.
If Cosell called both white and black players "little monkey," then it was obviously not a racist comment, or even a racial comment.
While you make a valid point, Cosell never called a white player "little monkey".
Good point.
I remember Jimmy the Greek getting fired for saying Black players could naturally run faster and jump higher than whites.
It was his explanation of WHY they could that got him fired.
He said that the slave owners would breed them to get the biggest and strongest men. That is what got Jimmy the Greek in trouble
@@richardcarden4161 🎯💯👍
The HUGE problem is that the Greek also told the truth. History proves him correct. But our snowflake society likes soothing BS over the truth. I also agree that, on average, blacks do jump higher and sprint faster. If you don't believe this, please list caucasian sprinters who've held the 100 yard or 100 meter records in the last 60+ years. Crickets. None other than Larry Bird was quoted in the 1990s or 1980s as saying basketball is "a black mans game. It always has been, and it always will be." The only reason he wasn't vilified is because he is Larry Bird....

I fully agree that this was in no way thought, meant and said with one bit of racism. Alvin Monk told the press that he considered it a compliment, as it was meant, to be singled out by Howard Cosell.
Was Howard obnoxious? Yes. Was Howard arrogant and probably narcissistic? Oh yah. The guy could be a total jerk but he wasn’t a racist. Al Michaels has the best Howard stories ever. What a character he was.
The beginning of woke.
Some have demeaned “woke.” When I was growing up, it mean “don’t be asleep behind the wheel - wake up,” or just being aware of unfairness. I guess those who don’t want others to not fight unfairness would prefer we all remain asleep at the wheel. Thx.
When Reagan was president.
Reagan and Bush Sr started the Crack Cocaine epidemic in this Country by working and banking money with the biggest drug dealer of all time, Manuel Noriega. Regan was a joke. And to think they laid him out in the Rotunda of the White House, on the same platform as Abraham Lincoln, and JFK.
Howard was the best and most unique announcer ever.
my favorite Cosell comment was at a football game when the camera panned to a player on the side line and Howard said "nicely chisled features". I don't know why I remember that I laughed at it then thinking what a thing to say.
Im probably one of few people still around who actually heard Howard make that comment.
Frank Gifford and Dandy Don Meredith said nothing after he made the comment.
But the next game Meredith did make reference to it the following game. (Cosell was still on the team then.)
Cosell's character in "Bananas" is Hilarious.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Howard Cosell was one of the few honest sports reporters of his time/ era. When he called the fight that Randall "Tex"Cobb got obliterated he called a disgrace againstthesport of boxing, even my Pops, a Korean War veteran and former U.S.Marine got teary eyed upon hearing hearing his demise.
Howard was one of the best to ever do it, he just got to comfortable and words came out.
I grew up listening to Howard. Loved the guy.
NY Post columnist Dick Young despised Howard but was moved to write a piece defending him. You could hear it in Howard's voice that it wasnt racist
I remember watching him as a kid! People called him “the ugliest man in television” lol!
At the time I absolutely hated Cosell, no way he should have ever been hired to broadcast football which he really didn't know the game.
Ali made Howard and vice versa...you can say one thing, never be another like him.
Cossell was too drunk to realized what he said boose flowed heavily on MNF
I remember when this went down and Alvin said it didn’t bother him a bit now if anybody was to be offended, it would’ve been him. I was like Howard Cosell. I thought he made things interesting and yes, he did more for the black community than most Black people did! You got all these preachers out there and politicians they want to keep blacks down. Howard actually cared about people.

This country has become way too sensitive . Be careful about what you say
It was not meant in a racist context.
I remember seeing this live & was also awake when Dodger All Campanis made his famous racial remark in the early eighties on Night line I believe.
The real reason he was pressured out was because he became very disliked in polling. He was always half-drunk by half-time and mumbled trivial nonsense. He once puked on Dandy Don's boots.

I had a love hate for Howard as a young man but he always had an opinion and was colorful to listen to.
See how long this has been going on?
The problem is that: you never what people actually MEAN--when they say what they say.
I don't understand the uproar, and didn't understand it when it happened
To my understanding, Howard called a human an animal. It was deemed like calling a black man an ape/dehumanizing. Thx!
Right, greasy dago wouldn't bother you, why are they offended by monkey huh? I don't understand it.😊
He was the best Monday night football announcer of all times and his halftime highlights in the 70's was amazing . And my Miami Dolphins we're the best monday night team in the 70's and I was from Queens NY In a heavily populated Jet fan Area ! 😂😂
Mine too. Missed him afterwards. Half time show. All the highlights in slow motion. Great stuff
It's one of those cases where he probably shouldn't have been labeled a racist because he wasn't one. But sometimes the bottom line kind of works itself out. While not racist, it was enough already with him. It almost came to a point where you'd think he thought he was the show. He was feeling himself at a level so beyond what even the most full-of-themselves sportscasters did.

Cosell was a legend.
Calling Howard a racist is like calling Biden a legitimate president. Howard and John Madden sustained MNF.
What do you have against football? Madden knew a more than Cosell, but not that much more.
Some of Madden's remarks just showed that the game had passed him by--he didn't recognize defenses or players' roles in them. He lauded Washington OG Russ Grim and blasted Randy White on a first down run play resulting in a 2-yard gain, apparently not understanding that White's role in the Flex was to occupy the cutback lane (which is exactly what White was doing) and holding a run to 2 years on first down is a 'win' for the D. Madden also openly wondered "what the heck is Mike Golic doing?" on an interception of Troy Aikman, not apparently recognizing that the Eagles were playing a zone blitz, and Golic had dropped back from his DT tackle spot into the short zone. HE WAS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE DEFENSE CALLED FOR, John.
and for trump 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Howard, Dandy Don & Al Michaels were the best 👍

Calling people monkeys is offensive in the eye of the beholder. Why would anyone call a human that? When this is said, one focuses on the impact not intent. One may not see it as offensive while others do. We all have opinions and perspectives to see things as we feel. No one has a right to tell anyone what is and what isn’t, especially if you’re being called an animal. If the term has been offensive to blacks at anytime in history, it’s probably offensive to them now especially if it’s meant to dehumanize. This is why protestors carrying signs “I am a man,” did so during the civil rights movement.
