Fantastic video man!! Very interesting and i love those tones :D :D.
very cool. everything i learned about cab simulation i learned from your videos! :)
Love your videos!
Nice video!
Btw, did you record guitar and bass directly through the 2i2 without a DI box?
Did you experience any clipping issues?
Great video!Thank you
I don't have a di box just a focusrite solo.. will it matter in clarity
Your drum sound is great. Can you share the Superior Drummer preset?
Great tones. I have a question. Do you think that i can achieve similar sound with my Alesis IO2 Express if I buy DI box? Or I must buy better interface?
People always think that a better/more expensive interfaces will enhance your tone like crazy. this is simply not true. The difference between a 60 buck Behringer UMC202HD and an 1200 buck RME is there, yes, but it is so small, some people wouldn't even hear it. So yes, use your Alesis and don't expect to get a better one out of a better interface when you are a beginner.
Hi there! Quick question: I notice on your videos you are able to see the VST plug-ins right above your tracks. How are you able to do that? Thanks! Big fan of your videos by the way, keep up the great work.
If you are using reaper, you can simply grab and drag the mix part up. it will show the Inserts for each channel.
itLEAKED Ha! I never knew you could do that.
***** Reaper has such a phenomenal written user manual, and nobody actually reads it :D:D:D
Hey!!
I'm new to the world of daw and digital plugins.
Can you let me use your dry guitar track and bass and drum tracks? I dont yet have an audio interface, so i can't record my own track and i'm trying my best to learn eq and tone shaping.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks. I can use superior drummer for drum tracks but i'm not planning to buy a bass guitar. Is there a way to track the bass lines using guitar and pitch shift it to bass tunings?
I don't want to use software generated tracks. I haven't done it myself but youtubers i watch ( Spectre Sound Studio and others) don't recommend it.
Drums i dont mid though.
Do you have any tips for identifying and correcting frequency issues in any given guitar track that has been processed? This is definitely a beginner question looking for a beginner friendly answer (if such an answer exists). Let's say I've got an Fx chain setup that I like but I really need to clean up the track. How does a beginner go about identifying where here needs to make cuts and adjustments to the eq? Certainly a skill mastered over time, but how does one know where to begin?
There is a little trick where you grab a very narrow (VERY NARROW!!!) band boosted by 20db+ in any EQ and sweep through the frequency range. There will be spots where your ears start to cry and want to make it stop. Now pull down that band at its ugly frequency to like -5db and A/B it until you feel like this frequency is not hurting your ears anymore.
But beware: This trick is overdone really quickly. So just because a single frequency sounds ugly, doesn't mean it does not contribute to the overall mix in a good way. Always check your mix after you found a spot. A/B a lot and you'll be able to build up this experience.
Hey, great video! Do you know any vst for basses? Some kind of "Ezdrummer for basses" Thanks.
Nicholas Torres For bass and the most variety I'd go AmpliTube 3 with it's SVX extension every day again...
can I ask what is a IR loader I use amplitube 3 metal and it sounds crap after listening to yourself, I wish I had your settings and how you are applying this in your daw, killer man awesome
+Andrew Taylor An IR loader is a VST plugin that can load Impulse Response .wav files. these can be found all across the internez for free or for $. In this video I used Recabinet as such a loader but a smaller VST would be "Kefir" for example. Just google around for "impulse responses" and learn :)
Tried Devil Studio Amp Pro 2? Tube amp plugin. Sounds just like a real tube amp. Amazing. Sounds even better than my axe fx 2 when plugged into the computer.
Is there any difference do you think between using IR's and just a straight sound from an amp and cabinet in a program like guitar rig? Do you think one is better than the other? Or are they just about the same?
John Silver With impulses you are limited to the wav you'll get. With the cabsim you can move and change mics as you want.
First time I ever hear amplitube sound this good...
did you have to do any post eq-ing on the american custom?
+J Bovee nope, no post on the custom...
sorry I'm a new but what daw is that? I like that EQ plugin. Come with daw or something I could get? The EQ I've seen aren't as straight forward and also doesn't show a live frequency response
+Keith S. The DAW is Reaper and you actually can get the ReaPlugs bundle for free on their web site for other audio applications. Brilliant plugins all the way :)
Thanks! I appreciate the info. I read up more on Reaper and really like their philosophy. Great design too. Gonna get it myself.
There is this plugin from Image-Line that's called Hardcore. 20 different amps, some basic effects. Would be nice if you could review it.
+Johan Brodd I actually didn't know this plugin and after watching the trailer from their website, I kinda understand why I didn't know it. Even the guitar tones in the trailer sound like a dying duck under a train. So there's no need to review such a plugin if you can buy Grind Machine and Bass Grinder from Audio Assault for 60 bucks... That's spent money the right way. But thanks for the tip anyway :)
do you record your guitars with a clean before using your plugins? what do you recommend?
+shutterspine What do you mean by "clean".... just plugged in into the audio interface, that's all
yes
+shutterspineon my side it's a Radial Engineering JDI and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface
how did you find the right settings for the EQ? did you use a plugin that visualizes the freqs?
Ears... two of them ;)
thank you for the detailed explanation
Don't get me wrong, please. I really mean it like I wrote it. You grab a narrow EQ band and sweep through the frequency range to find spots you don't like or are disturbing to your ears and pull those down. Mixing by eyes is (with a few exceptions) not a good thing to do.
sorry I did not know that it is so easy. thx!
Stupid question here:
So the impulses have nothing to do with the amp right? Is only impulses of the cabinets right?
I'm asking because, DAMN, they change everything about the sound even tho you're using the same distortion.
Also, great idea on using amplitube only as an impulse. I came across this video by searching the opposite.
Wanna see if using amplitube as distortion and other vst for impulse would sound better.
Have anyone try this ?
You're right... only cabs. And Amplitube amps combined with other impulses can sound pretty darn good.
I've been using Amplitube 4 Mesa triple recto with the cab bypassed then I load Rosen Digital mesa impulse with lecab 2 loader and put a tse 808 in front of both and it's sounding pretty good. Im also liking some of the free amp sims from poulin too. If you just spend about 8 dollars on Rosen Digital impulses you can get the 808 or pedal, amps and impulse loader all for free.
I like amplitube mesa!!!so cool brutal sound!!
what is name this aplication ??
seanpati hutasoit DAW? Reaper!
You've convinced me...
***** You should check out these plugins, as I like them for making the tone a little more full, "tubey" and overall better. Nick Crow Labs Tube Driver, Ignite Amps TPA-1 Power Amp [don't forget to click the arrows on the right side to see the back and swap power tubes, adjust sag, etc], and Ignite Amps PTEq, though if you have your EQ needs fulfilled, it won't be as useful as the other two.
I think the Tube Driver and TPA-1 make the tone a lot more lively, responsive and tube-y. Especially if you're using something like a VST preamp plugin [such as Ignite Amps NRR preamp plugin] or a Pod. Even if I have the power amp section on the HD500 on, I'll still use the Tube Driver and TPA-1 because to me, they seem to fill out parts of the sound that is lacking on it's own.
this is the best plugin i have ever heard wow
looby tate Uhhh... which one?
flips220 the best... you know... xD
I'd rather they find the sweet spot and provide 2-3 quality impulses instead of a 100 shitty ones. This is a great impulse pack, sounds amazing on the Fractal!
I've been able to check out Rosen Digital's brand new Studio Guitar Impulses Bundle. Here is a review / shootout video about the product and how it competes to well known plugins like AmpliTube 3 and Recabinet 4.
+FakeSmileRevolution Ihave downloaded A bundle but how to instal it on Mac?I can't find it in my Logic?Help please.
Now let's see a shootout between the non-free impulse rosendigital with classic free impulses like catharsis or god's cab by signal audio
+Herrdesrings That is where taste comes into play because there are soooo many high quality impulses out there
+FakeSmileRevolution Ja und so viele davon kosten auch gar nichts ;)
Herrdesrings ja wollt ich doch dazuschreiben... aber der "posten" Button war halt wieder schneller...
Amplitube is good. I usually bypass the cab and use IR-L because I have a lot of user made Impulse Responses that sound more "real". You can find free ones online and they sound good. Andrew Wade made some but I can't find them. If anyone has them please let me know.
+Scott Riley The Cab section of AmpliTube kinda destroys the whole product for many people. The amps and effects are actually killer.
Rosen all the way the clarity in the high end will cut through any mix, Recabinet IRs never sound great to me, and Amplitube Cabinet sound to washy. Using Rosen IRS with AMPS SIMS or AXE FX is money!
the amplitube is the better of the 2 I wish my amplitube sounded this good
i used to be a digital impulses lover but sooner realised i was wasting all my time n effort on getting the perfect tone n wasnt getting enough time to improve my guitar skills so i bought evh 5150 iii n i use it with torpedo live, now i dont have to worry abt the tone too much n i can finally practice without distraction.moral of the lesson, save money n buy a real tube amp, dont rely on this digital stuffs too much
I'm producing now using Amplitube 4, the plugin has even an emulation for room effect of the lamp excitation of the amplifier! That is not just amazing, but it's hell of a fuck AMAZING! Moreover, tweaking of speakers! The bloody speakers are even distinctly emulated!!! You can get a very very comprehensive sound, similarly close to the real deal.
honestly, the only good ones is amplitube...
Rosen actually sounded the worst to me by far. Amplitube was the best with recabinet close behind.
