  • Charlie Parker plays this lick on the bridge of the tune 'Confirmation' over a ii V I progression in Bb.
This line is almost entirely diatonic, except for the Gb on the F7 chord which is a b9/Chromatic approach note.
Practice this line in 12 keys.
    Thanks for watching.

Considering any 7 chord as implicitely being a 7add9b is a trademark of bebop; over a F7 it allows to play the Gbdim7 tetrad. To sum it up you can always add this 9b. It is not per se a chromaticism, even though it can be used as such.

Hi. I guess I had the same feeling than you on the first try but the trick is there is a rest (sorry, I don't know the exact name in English) at the beginning of the first bar. So, if you split the lick into phrases, the first phrase will stop at the seven of the second bar, the second phrase will stop at the 8 of the second bar and the third will start at the first seven of the third bar. Hope it can help anyone.😉 Cheers!
