Doesn’t letting America join on turn 1 make this too difficult for the central powers?
Yeah, it does. They changed the OOB rules so that the US can only leave its coast after turn 3. We were playing with the original rules. Thanks for watching!
Harry Potter theme for ww1 lol
I like to mix it up a bit... :)
Good summary of the game and the music had me on the edge of my seat! 😊
Thanks for watching! Yeah, some of those movie soundtracks are incredible!
Just purchased the 1914 game off Amazon. Thanks for posting this game video!
You are welcome! Congrats on your purchase - you won't be disappointed! :)
Nice battle report! And welcome back!
Thanks, Sunny! Life is still crazy busy, but having fun!
Didn’t even know there was a 1914 version hopefully I can get one on eBay!
Logan Perry Maaan, what cave have you been living in?! The games been out a few years,it's pretty expensive still so you might want to get the map , rules ,battle board+ setup charts for around $5 from HBG... that's what I did if you see one of my videos!!!
Lol just got into axis and allies, thanks for the tip will definitely do that!
Logan Perry Wow a virgin, too bad you're not a middle aged gal! Subscribe to as many ax@aller channels that you can, you'll learn faster that way-- I been in it myself since the 80s!!!
lol will do
Welcome here, Logan! Yeah, it is one of the newer versions, and they got gobbled up pretty quickly...I hope you can find one, and at a decent cost! ($100 should be near the lower end) Good luck!
Nice game report, Thank you. Looks like a fun version I may need to pick it up.
Rank Carcass What do you mean " maybe"?!
It is a great game! A real slug-fest, if Germany isn't in a big hurry. A slow-march towards Paris by a stack of 80-100 infantry and artillery is a thing to behold!
this is fun... love to do this my self. fun game and cool vid. thanks for this!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! It's not too hard to do, and you'll get better as you go...we all do!
This game is my wife's favorite game as well as mine. We wish A&A 1914 would come out with global in print for stores
Someday, maybe...
Some really good music going on there
This game is great watching this video actually got me to buy it
Glad to hear! I'm making another one right now that includes a couple of minor/major alterations...stay tuned!
Thank you
Subscribed great videos and i'm looking into the game pretty expensive, what do you think about 1942??
Thanks for the sub! 1942 is a solid game right out of the box. It is less open to special units and markers than some of the larger games, but a good game in its own right.
For more flexibility, the G40 combo is the one we look to . Anniversary is similar to 1942 in playability and "fun factor".
Can't really go wrong with an A&A product, except for the 1941 version...a little weak for us experienced war gamers.
Wow I’ve just checked this thank you for this my fave axis allies and also I found a great strategy as the centrals to win 1914 bear in mind this is in tourney rules right anyway the Austria Hungarians attack Romania with a sufficient force 7inf 2 art they attack Serbia with the same number of men and go into Venice with 11 inf 3 art and go into Tuscany with an 1inf and art everything else goes to Galicia where you have 24 inf and 5art the Germans put everything that can reach into Galcia leaving the centrals with a giant stack in Galicia overall it’s 66inf 17art
Wow! Impressive opening gambit. If it works, the CP will have a nice start and good pressure early on!
The Hilltop Pillbox its a very good move it’s worked for me a couple of times
great video i just ordered the map from histoircal board gaming a long with French and Austro-Hungarian pieces saved me 30 dollars since ill be filling the rest of the other countries with ww2 pieces ill be using Japanese pieces for Italy and Italy for Ottoman empire to better blend the color. My question to you is in your games has anyone ever attempted to take Norway or Sweden and say if you do attack are you going against 4 or 8 troops?
Nice! Have a great time with it! Yes, we have had people actually take both Scandanavian countries, and each time they fought 8 units - 1 artillery and 7 infantry. Ouch - but not too bad if you have a couple tanks and an airplane. (Obviously, your game needs to be going very well to do stuff like that! It has happened where Russia has taken them (because Germany was having a tough time in France), and where Britain actually landed in Norway successfully.
It usually never gets tried unless a victory looks like a real definite thing. If you fail, you could try next turn, unless the other player gets there first!
I have tried taking Italy first . with cp but it does not work but great job .I love to watch your gameplay
Hey there, Mj! Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, it is very difficult for AH to take Italy first, as it drains needed resources from the Russian front. Probably a good thing, as it would be a broken game!
I really wanted to hug one of my love ones "LARRY HARRIS" but he lives too far away from me(Gonna dedicate a music parody video to him soon)! And that train wreck from the movie is literally still there to this very day because it would've been to expensive to remove! Surprised that there isn't any machine guns in this game since it played a pivotal role in the real war,in my version I have them act like AA GUNS against troops if you look at one of my earlier videos plus many other house rules I stole from others!!! Oh yeah, I enjoyed your video too!
Thanks, No Limit! I think I remember Larry getting asked why machine guns and gas weren't included in the game, and he said it would bog down what is a very smoothly-playing game. I have to agree with Larry on that one.
Having said that, once you are proficient at this game, go ahead and look at those options, write up some rules, and send your ideas to someone who can make a neato expansion!
(Zeppelins would be cool, too!)
I guess the obvious thing to do is just use your imagination. I recently tried imagining in detail how battles in my war games would realistically go. an example would be D-DAY in the ww2 A&A. the 1st combat round in western Europe between the germans and USA/UK would be the Normandy landings. round 2, the breakout from Normandy. when it comes to detail in games, there are two ways for me. incorporate detail into the rules, or imagination. like, my tanks and infantry all missed in round one against the germans. My imagination would say heavy rain and mud slowing the tanks down, and lack of ammo for the rifles.
Cadje Bushey Like your vivid thinking there CB, I do that all the time when making my house rules as well! I really should put them posted on CZcams for many of these a@a games if I wasn't so lazy, you got an unusual first name- what kind of name is that?
Thanks for watching and commenting! You're correct! The best sign of a good game is whether or not your imagination can easily fit into the gameplay. That's what's great about the A&A world - how many times do we make the sound effects when a bomber gets shot down, or a sub sinks an enemy ship. (Making the sonar sounds always adds to the sea battles!) And we reference so many movies or books about specific moments in the wars when certain events happen, such as Pearl Harbor, the Blitz, Stalingrad, or D-Day landings. That is the sign of a healthy, engaging game!
its the name my family gave me at birth. its a real name, (Nicholas cage) but I don't know why its spelled the way it is. no offence, family.
Good stuff! 👍
Corpo24 Axis&Allies We gotta play my version one day!
No Limit
Definitely! I’m still learning this one but I really dig it 👍
Im planning on buying this game in the future but ive heard that game is incomplete for example there arent enough units, chips and there is no battle board for naval units etc. So did you guys ever ran into problems like this?
Yes, there are a few things lacking with this version, but don't let that stop you! Head on over to historicalboardgaming.com to get the extra chips! (They might be Out of Stock, but you can get on the waiting list. We just used dimes for 10X units until the extras arrived.) You probably won't need the extra German infantry, and there really are only a couple of naval battles, so that's not an issue. Enjoy!
Does anybody here know if buying AnA 1914 on Board Game Geek is a good idea? I've only ever looked at Ebay, but it looks like it's cheaper on BGG now
I've bought a couple - worked well! As far as 1914 is concerned, do a bit of research to see if a reprint is in the works. I have heard that it is, AND that it isn't, and I haven't looked too closely, myself. If it is, you could hold off and likely pick one up for around $100. Cheers!
@@TheHilltopPillbox Thanks so much! I apparently figured out about 1914 a little too late!
I have this game on order. Game is now back in print.😃

@@TheHilltopPillbox you are awesome! Thank you!
Cool!
Thanks, Elwood!
oh, and where to get more chips and playing pieces too, I managed to get some from historical board gaming but they have been out of some countries pieces that I need and also chips for months, it is like they will never get them in stock, pretty frustrating!!
I think a LOT of people have had problems getting things from China in the last few months. Many Kickstarters haven't been mailed out yet because of shipping delays, so you may just have to be patient, and keep checking HBG. That's where I bought my extra chips, but that was about a year ago...good luck!
@@TheHilltopPillbox Thanks man, I will just have to stay patient I guess.
Good try with the Italy move.
I feel like you needed more commitment from Germany to make it work, though. Were you playing with Collapse rules?
Thanks! No, we were playing pretty vanilla...no collapse, no RR. Seems to favour the Entente when we play that way, so that's why the German player chose an unorthodox move. I agree, if he sent a bit more, it may have knocked Italy out, and taken a lot of pressure off AH to keep such a large stack in Italy. This move does give Russia an easier game, though...
Base game you'll like never win as Central Powers. Just a fair warning.
I really enjoyed this video, although I was hoping to see a rare Central Powers victory! On that topic, do you (or anybody) think that removing Sub-Saharan Africa from the game completely would help the Central Powers in any meaningful way? The way I see it, Sub-Saharan Africa is just extra money for the Allies and although Germany does have some money based down there as well, it is usually gobbled up within the first 4 turns or so. Has anyone tried this, and if so, what effects did it have?
Cameron Hillsman You wouldn't want to remove a nice big chunk of the map from this game! Since you asked,in my version I have both forces build certain units in certain territories (UK/GER.) in lower AFRICA, the Germans still lose it but hold on for more rounds! Many other things too much to mention also, you could see them on my earlier videos on 1914! Sorry HT, don't mean to steal your thunder (Please Don't hurt me Godfather)!!!
Here's an offer you can't refuse...keep making suggestions!
The one thing about this game that has always irked me is Africa. In all the games I have played, it is simply a cash grab for the Allies, as they can take all the minor powers and will eventually overrun the scant German force there. So, a large part of the board is taken up by something that could have been solved in a more abstract manner (income boost in turn 4 for UK). Then, they could have put a proper income track, or more room for the European territories, as France and Italy can get very clogged up.
But, if you are curious about making the change, try it for a couple of games, from both sides of the war, and see if it makes any sort of impact. Then, let the rest of us know!
Hi guys thanks for the replies. Obviously with this idea one has to weigh historical accuracy (as Africa is an important and often overlooked front of WWI) against game balance, but I feel that removing Sub-Saharan Africa would do more good than bad. In the current iteration the Allies can go up 7-8 bucks rather quickly while the Germans inevitably lose 4 (11-12 IPC swing towards the Allies). If you take out Sub-Saharan Africa, Germany still loses 4 but Britain loses 6, France loses 4, and Italy loses 1, not to mention that they lose the opportunity to pick up 3-4 worth of neutrals. That makes it a 10-11 IPC swing toward the Central Powers. I'm more interested in achieving balance in the game than using map space better so I would have there be no income boost based on Allied African conquests.
Hopefully I can convince my group (which has mostly lost interest in playing 1914 because of the severe imbalance, even though we've only played it like 4 times) to try this, but if not I guess I will just try it solo.
WOW this is a long comment sorry about that but I had a lot to say lol thanks in advance to anybody who takes the time to read this entire thing
Cameron Hillsman That's a great point about limiting Africa (Even though my name is No Limit), I think I'll steal that from you - like most of my other house rules! I thought I was the only belly- acher, and your long comment is nothing compared to my text to DK about his submarine rules... And that was a two-parter!!!
there was harry potter music play at 8:56
Good catch! I have a bunch of great movie soundtracks on my phone...they come in handy! Thanks for watching!

@@deepblue1987 Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
I recognize one of the songs from the movie gladiator
Yep! Nice catch!
Wouldn't it have made sense for the CPs to finish Italy off?
Probably, but AH has trouble doing that without German help, and the Germans were struggling the whole game...just a bad bit of rolling here and there, and splitting German forces sometimes spells doom for CP.
Your title here
Yeah, new software and computer. Forgot to import my template. What can ya' do?
I thought it was pretty funny! :)
Part of me wants to take the video down and reload it, but there are a lot of good comments on the game, so I'll just leave it and accept the "your title here" comments...I think it's up to three now. :)
there is nowhere to find this game today
Yeah, it's tough to find, and if you do, it's a ridiculous price. I think a re-print is in order!
Your Title Here
Yeah, I bought a new computer, installed my editing software, and some really weird bugs keep appearing...I know that I put it on there, since I just checked the file on my computer, but for some reason, it didn't transfer to CZcams. I'll have to keep an eye out for that in the future!
Head-scratcher, that's for sure!
Paraphrasing a portion of your round 1 recap...."The Austrians moved guys from Galicia into Ukraine, held it, until the Russians took it back (still in round 1)." To my knowledge, a country cannot counterattack. Russia can move guys in, but only to reinforce. Ukraine should have remained contested.
Hello Scott, not sure where you came across that rule, but here is a cut and paste from the rule book on battling:
"Combat occurs when your units share the same space with units belonging to one or more opposing powers and you decide to
commit your units to an attack. Only enemy units may be attacked. When attacking, all units in the space belonging to your
power must attack.
You are required to attack only in territories that have become contested this turn due to your movement
of units into them. Attacks in territories that were already contested at the beginning of the turn and in sea zones are always
optional, even if you have moved units into them this turn.
Only one power can attack while in a sea zone or contested territory, but all enemy forces that may be present in such a territory
must defend together (see “Multinational Forces”, page 22). Players must always defend with all units in the space if attacked.
During your turn, you can conduct attacks in as many contested territories and sea zones as you wish."
So, the gist is simply this - if you move units into a contested territory, you may decide whether to attack or not. If you move units into an uncontested territory, you MUST attack any enemy present.
Hope that helps!
to bad the figures are of poor quality...not what i'm used of from axis & allies games
Yes, we are spoiled with some games. I don't find these ones too bad, though. They just didn't give enough of them!
so this game makes no sense there was no axis in 1914 it was the central powers *this was a joke* p.s stop smacking
Yeah, I agree! Reminds me of a discussion I had years ago where we argued if "Star Wars" was a legitimate name, since it was more of a "Rebellion" than a war.
Ah, semantics...
I just won't my first one with CP with tournemts rules and: Italy enters the war on the second turn, Switzerland gets 3 IPCs and A-H gets veeery lucky against Serbia and Russia.... We still went to 1926! The game is almost impossible for CP... The Bombay issue needs to be addressed as well, should have a reinforcement limit...
Thank you!
Al Mol IN my version all strict neutrals can't be attacked or else they all go Pro enemy side,so the British from India can't go through Persia or Afgan. They would all have to be transported which will be hard since India can't build ships according to the rules!!!
No Limit thank you! I meant “i just won” (autocorrect!)... thats an interesting idea! Never thought about it.... i have to try!
Al Mol I'm glad someone liked it, in the real war the British never attacked those territories even though they did protect their interest of the oil fields on the fringe border of Persia/Turkey when attacked!!!
Yes its interesting although the idea that countries like Sweden, Spain and Greece, unite to fight for the freedom of, let's say, Persia is pretty unbelievable! But anything to balance the game!
Have you tried with a couple of Zeppelins?
Me and my kids play this all the time its unbalanced out of box. So we dont let italy come into war until turn 2 and america we dont let in until turn 3 and in turn one and two there income is half to symbolize them not entering until 1916. Was woundering if u good game play this when u get time and see what u and your followers thing. We find the game more realistic cuz russia usally gets taken out by revolution rules and rest is a stagnets afair depending on rolls. Just an idea for u
Interesting idea! Can A-H attack Italy, and bring her into the war, or is it off-limits?
Idk we can do that we just always play with italy joining after first turn
It's sneaked not snuck.🤣 sorry, my mom was an English teacher
The Americans are in the war on the first turn?
Rich Jerstad Noooo,in the 4th round! You can download the rule book from a@a.org!
But they were this game. Right?
Kamlin Cox It's clear that the US just made a landing in Africa on turn 4!
The Americans are off the coast of England at the end of round one. That would indicate that they are in the war. Otherwise they cannot leave their home port until the 4th turn. I've owned the game since it came out. My group and I have played nearly 100 games of this. We know the rules. Perhaps the only difference between what you play and us is that we play OOB.
Rich Jerstad I guess you can get the answer from HT, just to make sure I'm wrong.
1940 europe or 1914 europe
Hello Wilson, I always look at the cost per hours played, then factor in the people. While there are a lot of games that might only get played once or twice and then put in the garage sale, this game will easily provide many, many hours of enjoyment (and stories!) that will make it worth the while! It was some of the best money I ever spent on a game!
(No, I don't get kickbacks from AH for pitching the game.) ;)
@@TheHilltopPillbox Thank you for responding!
@@nemanjauzumakic5334 I try to get back to viewers asap! Not always successful, though...
I am going to give the cp the win, soley because the US did not stay isolationist.... btw, anyone know why germany would ever use unrestricted subs? The rule seems way underpowered for running the risk of pissing off the americans. I think it should be like strategic bombing in the original game. Your subs role. If they get a 2, they can role again, and whatever die nimber you hit, the allied country in question loses that many ipc's. That would have teeth. 1 dollar is just pathetic.
I enjoyed everything except for what usa was doing. But was fun enjoyable
Thanks for watching and commenting! What is your preferred USA strategy? Land in France? Head south? Let us know! Thanks!
I meant as in fighting early
@@xxmadetthisforyouxx1699 Ah, I see! Yes, the OOB rules allow for it, but those quickly got changed. We thought we'd go purist on this one!
@@TheHilltopPillbox ye my group is trying to find a time to set aside to play this game. We will also be having Albania as a true neutral. This makes it so Italy just doesn't get a free 4 troops and a nice place to land. And obviously USA stuck for 3 turns. For me I think USA goes to wherever is needed. If Germany is doing a huge french push. Americans coming in to bulk them up just in time to save the day.
@@xxmadetthisforyouxx1699 Albania sounds interesting...let us know if it hampers Italy's chances of survival!
I wish you finished the game instead of just giving your final thoughts

Axis and allies?
Correction: Allies and Central
Yep, in all fairness, it should be Triple Entente & Central Powers, but they wanted to use name recognition...oh, well. What can ya' do?
Correction entente and central
Um, why is USA fighting turn 1? That is completely unbalanced for the cp, who are already at a disadvantage. If you are going to tip the game so far in favor of the Entente, the germans should be given like 20 or 30 dollars, the turks 10, and the austrians another 10, to equal the money that america would have been gaining those turns they should have been out. Totally disagree with allowing america to fight before it's proper time, unless unrestricted sub warfare was imposed (which is dumb, and toothless, shouldnt even be considered)
Hello Brett, thanks for watching and commenting! We were just using the OOB rules set which says that the US can't attack any CP units until Turn 4. After the fact, I found an errata sheet that says they can't even leave their shores until Turn 4, but I don't know if it's an official stance or just a fan rule.
I'm always careful about adding money or units to the set up, but each to his own. Another option that other versions have embraced is a stronger Round One attack for the Germans/Austrians. Essentially, they attack one pip better, or the defender defends one pip less.
We have had CP win with the OOB rules a number of times, especially when Germany sends EVERYTHING at Paris, and usually take it on Turn 4, then they turn their attention to Russia, which has gotten larger, but is then subdued by a joint CP attack on three fronts.
The one rule we really don't like is the Russian Revolution, which makes it very easy for the CP to win, in our games, anyways!
The Hilltop Pillbox ya, sorry if o was a bit passionate. I usually get stuck playing with the CP, so i am very simpathetic to their uphill battle. I have won 4 out of 4 games as the CP (all 1v1 matches), but the margin for error was 0. Our games were also oob rules. We did have the revolution as an option, which is kind of a double edged sword for our games, as the germans would rather have the money. 2 games I took Moscow, 2 games they put up such a heavy defense, i could have won, but needed those troops in the west, so it forced me to cause the revolution. He could tell i wanted the money, so it was a good play on his part. The last game, the entente should have won, but the german fleet made one last grandstand, that actually succeeded (pure luck), and the allies after that point were in a very hard position to reinforce their troops entering germany. Germany retreated to consolodate as the austrians moved in. The german navy controled the atlantic and i had just enough time to land in canada. France and britain were far to defended for an attack, but where america had tried to defend them, they were ripe for the pucking. The US fell, and the CP had way tuch economy after that. Italy was the final capital to fall. If it wasnt a win condition of 2 capitals though, france and britain could have fought for a very long time, but would be outspent.
The UK goes first in the game
Hello Tapo Koko, you may be using a different rules set (there are a number out there!), but from the rule book, the order is:
Austria-Hungary
Russia
Germany
France
UK
Ottoman
Italy
USA

Tf is that intro?
Yeah, new computer and editing software...forgot to reset the opening credits...
Okay.
the rules are a mess in this game, not explained well at all in the book.
Hello Brian, yes, you are correct. That's probably the reason for so many errata notes and house rules. They also skimped on units and money, so it has always felt like they rushed this one.
Oh well, the A&A community stepped up and got things done for them!
@@TheHilltopPillbox I've got so many questions and don't know how to get them answered hilltop. I am playing my first game now and me and a rfiend are just making our own rules up as we go. I can say the game(by a mix of out of box rules and our own is real fun so far but we would like to have some things clarified just to make sure things dont get too tilted to one side.
@@briancampbell6038 I think there are just a few very important rules that always need to be followed. The rest of them can come and go, depending on your gaming group. (I am assuming you have played other A&A games! If not, then just keep the rule book handy, and have fun!)
1. Only ONE round of land combat. If both sides remain, the area is CONTESTED, and no one gets the money for it. Air and Naval Battles go until only one side remains.
2. USA can't leave its borders until Round 4. (The OOB rules only says it cannot attack CP, so players would go attack Spain and/or Scandanavia, just for something to do!)
3. Unloading a transport into enemy territory allows the enemy to take one shot per artillery there BEFORE the battle begins.
I wouldn't suggest playing with the Economic/Political Collapse rules at the start. Just play the game and learn the mechanics of it. It's usually pretty obvious who will win, anyways. Also, use the Russian Revolution rule, as it kinda helps the CP a bit, who need all the help they can get!
Others may chime in with thoughts, but these base rules are key. I hope you enjoy it! It is considered by many in the A&A Community to be in the top 2 or 3 versions! Cheers!
@@TheHilltopPillbox Thanks hilltop, the advice is appreciated.I've got a question if you don't mind answering......do all you infantry attack at 3 with artillery support or only the same amount of infantryman as you have artillery? ditto for the planes, do all infantry attack at 4 or just the amount you have as you have planes?
@@briancampbell6038 Good questions! The infantry/artillery is paired up, so if you have 5 infantry and 3 artillery, then you would be rolling for two "2's" and six "threes".
Planes upgrade ALL artillery to rolling "4's", so I tend to buy planes each round, if I can afford it, and if I have the artillery to make it worthwhile! Planes don't affect infantry in any way, though. Cheers!
