Man battles hurricane to save 40 lives

- Mayreau resident Norbert Dembar battled inside a church for two hours to save 40 of his fellow islanders during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.
Thank God for this man’s quick thinking, also the priest 🙏.

Strength of Samson, faith of David, courage of Daniel, saved many lives that day.
There were two heroes involved during this crisis: the priest who called everyone to safety into his living space and this gentleman who kept calm and helped in securing the door. May God bless them both for their selfless act of kindness. Thank God for the sparing of their lives and I pray for everyone's healing from this traumatic experience in Jesus Mighty Name. You shall recover it all.❤🩹🙏

We thank God for sending such a shepherd as Fr. Victor to our Diocese. Being from Nigeria, he never experienced this. Sir thank you for your assistance in keeping everyone safe. When Fr was asked, "Why dont you go stay on the mainland? His response " My people can not be suffering and me staying on the mainland. I need to be with the people." He is very much in the Grenadines moving around all 3 places. May God continuous blessings be on him and all affected 🙏🏿

What a story! Never give up is the lesson I take from this story. Norbert is a treasure! Perhaps some water tanks could be distributed at strategic points to address the water concerns here and on Canouan and Union Island.

On the July 1 NEMO list of Emergency Shelters, this building is listed as two of the three Emergency Shelters on Mayreau. It's listed as both "Mayreau Community Centre" and "Mayreau Recreational Centre (Catholic Church)"

Building code is very poor
Does not matter the building code unless u engineer for steel structure it is a grate possibility it will failed in hurricane of that magnitude
Do you think the same way about the destruction in Carriacou, Petit Martinique, some areas in Grenada, Jamaica or all the other areas that Beryl devastated?
Building code didn't save Louisiana from Katrina. A direct hit from a category 4 or higher hurricane demolishes almost everything in its path.
