- In our final pre-release video for the new House Bolton mini-faction, I will be showcasing my painted Bolton army. In this video, I will show the painted units, explain my thought process in painting them, and describe how I painted them. Thanks! I really like the BG too. I actually like these BG models more than the new ones. These old ones maybe be a bit static looking, but the new ones just look a bit too chunky and unrealistic in my opinion.

@millburray6676 That’s awesome. ASOIAF is a relatively affordable game, if you’re not already aware. Boltons are a super fun faction to play. They’re currently down at the bottom of the power rankings, but that’s mostly something you’ll notice at tournaments, not so much in local games. Night’s Watch recently caught a big nerf too, but they’re still a solid faction. In the end, I’d just paint and play what appeals to you most, since armies’ power levels will wax and wane as game updates come and go, regardless of which faction you pick.

Csn you share your skin tone recipe please, love the result.
I use the ScaleColor skin tone set. First, I base coat with Pink Flesh. Then I give the skin a wash with Citadel Reikland Fleshshade to give some shadows to the recessed areas. Then I go back over with Pink Flesh for the first highlight. Then I highlight with 50/50 Pink Flesh and Basic Flesh. Then just Basic Flesh. Then 50/50 Basic and Light Skin, then just Light Skin, and then you can take it even lighter by mixing in Pale Flesh, if desired. But essentially if you stick with the ScaleColor flesh tones, you can’t go wrong.

I had no idea! I’ve never been a 40k player, so that wasn’t something I had in mind, but that’s a cool similarity. From gene-stealer to skin-stealer! 😆

Did you finish off with a matt spray varnish or not???
Thanks! Yes, I always conclude with a matte varnish. I use Vallejo matte varnish through my airbrush. I use the airbrush primer mostly for cost-savings purposes since I get more for my money that way.
These look really good dude, any suggestions for the free handing patterns on shields?
My biggest tip for freehanding the shields is to not be forget that you can go back and correct your mistakes. I never get them to look good and straight on the first attempt. I’ll always go back with white to clean up the lines, and then sometimes again with the black to straighten the lines some more. Also make sure to use a brush with a fairly sharp tip. That’s not totally required but makes for fewer correction steps.

Thanks! Whenever I feel like I can get away with it, I add some redheads and old fellas. 😄. For the redheads, I believe my base color is Vallejo Light Rust. From there I mix in some orange, then pure orange, and then mix in a little beige/buff for the highest highlight. I try to carefully drybrush the layers of highlights when I’m painting hair. It gives a better look in my opinion, but it can be tricky since it’s easy to overbrush into the face or armor. I’m always very very careful to not get crazy with my drybrush brushstrokes during this process. I’ll usually finish up by hand painting some of the highest highlights.

Of course. I first applied the “dried mud” color, which was a drybrush of Scalecolor Walnut. Then, in a smaller area, I drybrushed the “fresh mud” color, which was Vallejo Dark Rust. But just about any light brown and dark brown should work. I like to layer the dark over the light to give some depth to the dirt and make it look like mud dried higher up on the cloaks. Enjoy!
I used to play this game; the pandemic crippled it and I have yet to see it recover.
Every community is different, but my local scene withered during the pandemic but then woke back up afterwards. It’s actually quieted down a bit this year starting in the summer. Hopefully you’ll give the game another shot sometime!
@@imperialminis857 Sure, every community is different, but I was at Adepticon and the showing for the ASoIaF tournament was abysmal with barely anyone playing.
@jamesv.7041 In general the US player population is very low. Tournament sizes are larger in almost every other country. Your average weekend LGS tournaments in Poland can be the size of US Nationals. CMON does not market this game at all, or not nearly as much as they should. And every region seems to have their own CMON group running things, without any consistency.
Most of the cheerleading for this game is done by a small handful of content creators, and the unsung heroes of the game are TOs who put together local tournaments and evangelize the game with learn-to-play events. CMON doesn’t do much at all to support any of these efforts. A little support could go a long way and benefit the company greatly.
@@imperialminis857 one of the reasons my group turned to other games. CMON wasn't producing anything, whether it was their fault or not. I guess I could have kept playing without my group but I don't care for the IP, at all, so looking for another group seemed hollow and spent my energy elsewhere.
