Bomberman 64: The Second Attack - An Underrated Masterpiece!

- It's Wednesday, so I get to upload whatever I want! I don't quite know what type of video this is... but whatever it is, it's not something that I usually do. But, I felt like I should make a video like this sooner or later, and I made it for a game that deserves it! I intended to do more fancy things with this video, but after having several rendering issues, it just became this: commentary with a bunch of video clips. Ah well.
So, yeah, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack is a Nintendo 64 game. The footage in this video was captured by myself back when I did a walkthrough of the game. To this day, I still find this game to be fantastic! You may not agree with any of my points... heck, you may think that this is the worst video ever for the worst game ever. Regardless, I decided to speak up about this game, and this is probably the only time that I'll make a video like this. So, if you love this video (somehow), then enjoy it while you can! And if you dislike it... don't worry!
Thank you, and enjoy! ;) - Hry
Ahh this guy gets it. More people need to love this game
This is the first game I can really remember being stoked for, during development. When my sister went to her favorite Bomberman fan sites at the time, and found out this was being developed, and we saw the screenshots, we were hyped past the moon and stayed that way until it was released.
I was disappointed to see little to no ads for it besides a few magazine ads, after all, BM64 and Hero had great TV ads parodying the Spiderman theme song, but when my mom finally got the money for our Christmas present, she took us to the mall to buy it. and we were stoked! She found the last copy at some Babbage's type store, I forget what store it was, they were also selling old copies of Tekken 2, but the only thing I wanted at that time was thi game. We opened it on Christmas night, and spent the next several years completing it. We played other games too of course, but this was the big one to complete after my sister had already completed Bomberman Hero 100%.
To this day, now that I'm 22, we haven't evolved Pomy to his Dragon status yet, and some levels need 100% completion, but we did get both endings and buy everything in the shop including the owner's clothes.
Wow, that's quite an interesting story, sir! It is a shame to see that this game doesn't get as much attention as it deserves, but I'm glad that you enjoyed your time playing it! Heck, I'm glad that there is even a person that has a story about remembering the game before its release! Still, I'm glad that you enjoy this game, and thank you for sharing your story, sir! =D
***** And I agree wholeheartedly, that they need to make a new Bomberman game just like this one. Hell. A Wii U sequel to this game, would be awesome, and if I have the money I'd buy it day one. Call it Bomberman U The Return or something. With a few extra bombs, bigger levels, and having general Charabombs (what Pommy is) in place of having just Pommy, so you can already have and collect different cute monsters to team up with at your disposal.
+Music noodles Nope, if you complete Bomberman hero 100%, you just get a new stage with one of the bosses from Super Bomberman being the real final boss.
The Bomberman 64 trilogy were my favorite games in the franchise. Sadly I never owned any of them until recently. (Got Hero in the mail and 64 and The Second Attack are on the way) I rented them and never got a chance to beat any of them. But I do know enough to know how amazing they are.
Hero, now that I've played it, is a fun romp. It's also a silly Star Wars parody.
64 showed how to make a mascot franchise get dark properly. (That opening cinematic where they shoot lasers into the town is messed up. Especially when you see Bombermen getting killed)
The Second Attack is probably the darkest this series ever got. But it's also the best of three. It also had the coolest bombs.
one of the best Bomberman franchise I had ever played it when I was just a kid! Screw you IGN for giving Bomberman the second attack a 5 out of 10! I love your reviews, man!
IGN sucks, as many pages of critics...any generic boring war film automatically gets high score and let's not forget how that trash called undertale got a high score. BTW this game has a big problem...is very easy compared to Bomberman 64, and this was the succesor fo this game.
dear god. Other people know of this game?? I just recently beat the final boss (one hell of a fight... a 9 year fight!) after not playing the game in ages. stayed up from 10-4 getting my ass handed to me. my dorm watched for a few hours until they went to sleep, it was finals week. i beat the boss and finally made it to sleep. I love that game. great music, great levels and great memories
+TeaRzOfTheFalleN I'm glad that there are people such as you that love this game as well! Not only do I know about this game, but I would even go as far as to call it one of my favorite games of all time. And, don't worry... you're not the only one who spent a while trying to beat the final boss. In fact, it even took me a year to to figure out how to beat some of the levels at all. But thank you for sharing your memories! =3
This game also holds a special place in my heart. I think it was the first one I managed to fully finish without a guide...as far as puzzle platformers go. I was at a crossroads where I had to start leaving childhood behind, and I'm convinced this game played a huge part in my emotional maturity, being probably the darkest Bomberman game to exist. It just sucks that Konami is in no hurry to rerelease it. Copies are very rare, so most people only have online playthroughs to experience it with. I even found an extra copy and sent it to the Completionist, though I don't think he'll get to it anytime soon.
AnimaMandala Wait, you sent a copy to The Completionist? Well, I can't make any promises, but seeing as I edit for him now, maybe I can try to bring the game to his attention. =P
***** Seriously? I know he's interested because he opened it in a mail video years ago, and said he was a huge fan of the prequel. But if I know Jirard, he'll prefer doing the first game before this one.
AnimaMandala Well, we'll see what happens! Either way, I'm a huge fan of the game, and I'll do what I can to help spread the admiration for this underrated Bomberman classic. It's definitely a rare gem, for better or worse, but I'm glad there are people that you that appreciate the game as much as I do! =)
Thanks for the luck! I didn't play it much, but it ran pretty good for me, I'll try it again later. Also, great live stream yesterday. I would have watched longer but I was in the eastern time zone. Oh well. On the bright side, we get games a few hours earlier sometimes. :)
oh and this game is fucking awesome. to me its the best bomberman to date.
StarmenRock Preach it.
This was my most wanted N64 game when I was 8 years old, but stores never fucking had it. :(
Played Bomberman Hero but not this edition, I must get a copy, good review!
Good sequel, the soundtrack still are good in this game and oh lord...it gaves u a, interesting plot more complex than the first game and even complements it :), i just have a problem with this game that is its difficulty...it became much easier and now is not necessary to build bomb bouncing towers to get to the next area as it was on the previous game :/, besides that i enjoyed this game as a kid and more people needs to play this game at least as a Bomberman fan(BTW hope regulus will be on another game)
Just restarted. Haven't played it since it came out. Loved it as a kid.
Awesome video dude, I've only played the first Bomberman 64 before, but this game looks like it's really awesome.
I dont have an n64, but I'm downloading this game right now for the emulator so I can play it. I dont care about graphics all the time, so, I may love this game.
Well this was an awesome video. I'll definitely have to check this game out sometime then. Right now I've only played the first Bomberman 64.
the first boss was frustrating as trying to take beer medicine
i couldn't get past it
but you've been playing this game for years so your pro mlg
YOSHI ISLAND IS THE BEST! XD. Very good video!
Awsome i never played this one before. but Knight monster looks awsome. I am defiantly gonna get it and play it now. Thanks man.
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I already liked Bomberman, but this game cemented him as one of my favorite characters
I wonder why a copy is so expensive these days. I live in Brazil, and the prices they charge for one of those are ridiculous. I l loved this game, I used to rent it all the time... I also own both Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero, so this one is the one in the trilogy missing (if you don't count the Japanese-exclusive 2001 game :P)
I wish I could find a copy of this game for a decent price. :/
tenta comprar no ebay, cara! Não paga imposto se for menos de 50 reais.
Até no eBay é MUITO caro...
Acabei jogando por emulador mesmo :P
***** po eu comprei uma copia japonesa e foi tranks, 60 conto. essa e do 64, tranquilaço.
The series peaked on the 64... it's actually disheartening to see a new B-man because they always remake the 2D ones, which aren't _bad,_ but have been done _to death._
Someone should bring back that "elemental variations skills" thing this game had, using all those bombs was so fucking cool
+StarmenRock I think Generation and Jetters reused the concept, but that was still over ten years ago...
The Nerdy Catholics The second attack used it wayyy better
Yeah, I kinda agree.
The Elemental Stones and their bombs were a big part of my childhood.
The Nerdy Catholics same... godamn i fucking love this game SO FUCKING MUCH holy SHIT,. bitch
are you still streaming
DO DRAW MY LIFE I BEEN WAITING FOR IT
Paid $40 for this.. Worth all of it.
I agree best bomberman game ever never could beat the last boss
