- *Just a little addendum, Krikzz did just recently lower the prices of his everdrives, not enough for me to recommend getting them, but I just thought I should let you all know.

Excellent video, answered a lot of my questions. This was a wonderful presentation that covered all the bases I would imagine most would ask. Gonna take the dive on this drive!
The "Loader 64" folder can be removed. It includes stuff for Win/Mac/Linux for connecting this cart to a PC for debugging...something you can't do anyway unless you mod the board. Changing wallpapers is easy. Press the DOWN C and it asks you if you want to use the selected wallpaper...done. Just figured I would chime in since mine arrived today. The one that I received is a newer microSD model, but it works the same. Great cart!
Dude I wish more videos were this straight forward! You get right to the point and the features, thanks for the content!
Thanks man this was by far the most straight forward easy to understand and informative video ive seen while looking for information about these carts.
I have had the ED64Plus (the black one) for around 10 years now and still working like charm
I have the super 64 red cartridge and for me it was my biggest forbidden collection of 64 games of all time. Greetings from Chile and I spent hours and hours playing with it.
I forbid you and this illegal cartridge I shall notify Nintendo . Only kidding !
You literally answered every question I had on this product. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!!
Thank you! Glad I could help.
Exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks for the input.
Glad I could help!
I've had the ED64 plus for well over a year loaded with the better part of the 64 library on it. I imaged the original sd to a better brand sd and archived the image. I have had zero problems with it. All saves work perfectly, once one learns the details of the different save features, and it plays perfectly. It's a beautiful thang!
Nice video man! Very well done, answered my questions to the T. Thank you
I got the ED64 (the black one) . After 2 year in , very satisfied for the price i paid. The original everdrive is way too expensive for me
What's the difference? Expensive one has more games?
@@jjthapyro4130 it has more features like saving the game without doing the reset thing on the ed64. But I still think krikzz is ripping people with his everdrives
@@TacticalSeagull So which one would you recommend?
@@jjthapyro4130 sadly, the everdrive is the one made with quality materials. But I do think the x5 is expensive enough, no need for the x7
@@jjthapyro4130 I know I'm six months too late, but just so you know, unless a seller says otherwise, these everdrives don't come with games. You have to install your own.
Really appreciate this input! Just what I need! Not being a collector, I was wondering if I should go with this one, or the ED64 PLUS.
I'm glad you liked the video! I mentioned it when I brought up the ED64, but the super64 and ED64 are identical, the only thing different between the two is the shell of the game cart. I think the ED64 comes with disc to help install roms or something like that, but I dont know why youd need it. Either option is pretty decent all things considered
@@heyguysitsshea From in-game, how do you return to the menu screen w/o using reset button? Thats the problem i had.
Excellent and very to the point video, loved it. Any more games that didn't work since you posted the review? Thanks
Thanks for the tips bro! I just subbed and wish you the best!
Damn man great video! ima go buy one of these. I recently dugged out my old n64 and i wanna play some games i dont own 👍👍
Hey, a correction: Any N64 can output any video mode. You CAN load PAL roms on an NTSC console, and NTSC ROMs on a PAL console. I'm using the Super64 myself with a PAL N64 and play NTSC ROMs on it just fine. Your specific TV might not be able to handle a PAL signal, but that doesn't mean it's not possible.
In the end it comes if your display device can support both NTSC and PAL, as the console itself has no issues (aside of putting the cart in the correct mode for a USA/JPN console in NTSC or EUR console in PAL to start booting the games), so far only 1 game I was interesting doesn't work for me (Puyo Puyo Sun) but is not a big loss compared to what I can actually play that I couldn't back in the day or nowdays because of the stupid prices they ask for some of the games.
Yeah he is talking nonsense, you can load PAL versions on American NTSC console and vice versa as long as your display works with 50/60 Hz. I have PAL console and play 60Hz NTSC games.
great video, was thinking of picking up an Everdrive but needed to save up so will go for the super64. Thanksss
Glad I could help!
You won't regret it (in my case I got it 2 years ago as ED64Plus), it works like a charm and almost all games boot just fine, and you can play some rom hacks like Smash Remix or Randomized games like the 2 Zeldas and Super Mario 64... just make sure you have an expansion pack, as most hacks needs it to work, the same for prototypes like Mortal Kombat Trilogy (the prototype features unmasked Sub-Zero instead of Cage for example).
Glad to see the Super 64 has a regular SD interface. I just got my ED64+ from the post office and getting the micro SD card to latch is a bit frustrating, though it's not as flimsy as I thought. If I'm to get another flashcart, it'll be this one with its firmware switched out for Alt64 since it's basically a knockoff ED64+.
Thanks! I really appreciate the honesty and willingness to be objective.
yeah i have the Krikzz snes x6 everdrive and it requires some stuff to the sd card before using it.... and i got to google for it, since i couldn't find anything in the user manual or in their forums
anyway, i was about ot buy his advance everdrive too, but the price skyrocketed a bit xD
do you experience any lag in the intro of stadium 2 ? without the expansion pak is a bit slower and the sounds don't align very well with the animation. but i never saw it working with the expansion pak attached
also, the assembly date in 5:23 lol future tech stuff
Love the shirt! Cool video as well
Hi Great vid. Nice personalty and very understandable with no loud soundtrack. My kind of video! I do have 1 question after that praise though so bnothing is free lol! Can you remember which sshop you bought from on Ali?
Haha thanks for the compliments. The seller I bought from is named Retro Classic Game Store. I've bought two super64s from them and both were great
@@heyguysitsshea Hi I bought it from the shop you said and no probs so far. Thank you!!
The comment about saving is gold. Thanks!
I recently bought an Everdrive x7 direct from Krikzz for $170 shipped. Another option might have saved me money but he deserves it for his contributions to the community. Appreciate the review though, if I absolutely didn't have money to spare it would be a decent option.
Thanks for the video. A very well made, informative 10 minutes. I own around 65 carts, some very pricey, and like to not jam them into the N64 console to play. I purchased the ED64 Plus, waiting for arrival. Are there any games I should play through original cartridge, opposed to flash cart?
How was the ed64 plus??..im considering purchasing myself
@@mizt3r_420 Im happy with it. I played/tested it quite a bit for a week or so. I have USA N64 and Japan NTSC games work, no problem. Pal games display in black and white and/or not centered. Saves work fine and all NTSC games i played, worked without issues.
@@paulpederson1677 nice im buying as i respond to you. For 90 bucks tho. Immediate delivery..NEW
Well, nodays ED64 Plus should have minor issues with Pokemon Stadium 2 but those are not enough to say that you should use the OG cart instead, I think the same can be said for Resident Evil 2, as far as I know, the only concern is to reset the console on games that don't use controller pack to save progress and also that some romhacks, translations or prototypes that are starting to appear might not run at all (one of the MKT prototypes must be fixed to make it work on ED64 Plus for instance), and you may want to have a 2nd SD with an alternative firmware to backup your controller pack data in case you only have 1, that way you can play more games that needs the controller pack to save their data (particulary most sports game that requieres a fully empty controller pack to save the data).
Thanks for the vid! Small gripe but the "programming" of the SD card is literally formatting and then dragging a folder over. Anyways if someone is seeing this don't let that be the deciding factor bc its really no sweat. Cheers!
Thank you for letting me know about the reset to save feature!
Can you walk me through the steps? I wanted to save my super Mario 64 file with force sram 128 or just force sram, held the reset button for 10 seconds (it didn’t do anything, it didn’t reset.) and then powered off my console went to super Mario 64 chose force sram and it still didn’t save please help me, I don’t wanna waist more money than I already have.
@@DOOM31520 I will have to try Mario 64 when i get home, i already have that game physically so i didn't test this title.
I've had zero issues saving with my copy on other games like Kirby 64 or Pokemon Stadium. For P.S. I loaded up the game, traded a worthless pokemon to it from my GB game, turned it off as normal, removed it from the system, loaded it up again, and the pokemon was still there.
@@DOOM31520 Regardless of the save metod (except for the games that must use a controller pack like Castlevania Legacy of Darkness USA or EUR) you need to reset the console to return to the cart. menu (yes, there's no need to hold the button, press it like if you want to actually reset the game), once you see the directory screen again (like if you want to change the game you want to play) you're good to go to turn off the console, as the save file is created or updated (you can check the saves directory if you want to make sure the data was saved, but you don't need to do that actually).
I got a ed64plus, it is labeled like the black cart, but has the shell of the super 64. It has the same firmware as the ed64 plus, but it has a different board in it that i cant find any info on, but if it means anything to people that reads this comment, the black one, unless its been changed in the past few years, can be modded for usb support for various uses. Itd probably help if you make rom hacks and want to make them run smooth on console.
Love your video! Do you have a link to aliexpress for the Super 64 or anywhere to buy it? Thanks!
I had no idea the Ever Drive was so expensive. I’ll definitely be looking into one of these options instead.
BTW quick question, do you think a GoldenEye rom hack would work on this? You said some versions of the vanilla game have trouble loading
As long as the rom hack is console compatible then it should work. The cart came with goldfinger 64 and it works fine, I havent added any other goldeneye rom hacks but the Zelda/Smash/Donkey Kong ones I did add all worked fine. I think the roms that had trouble loading were just corrupted files and it wasnt an issue with the actual hardware
For anyone thinking of getting this specifically for Super Mario 64 speedrunning. This works for the Usamune rom and that should be all you need. The barrier to entry for running and recording runs of this game on the N64 is already high enough with all the cables, worrying about a good stick if you're trying the eBay lottery, splitters, etc. that $200 just to get some decent practice tools is ridiculous. It's not like you're gonna use it for anything else, though if you do want to run more than just Usamune then by all means get the X7 for the most convenient experience.
Oh Gods... That Jar-Jar cutout scared the crap out of me!
Great video! How about Mario Tennis? Is it playable? And what about overall delay? Is there any noticeable delay?
Yep Mario Tennis works just fine! As far as delay goes, I havent really noticed anything, but I'm also not a snob about that sort of thing. I've played plenty of intense Smash Remix matches and havent had any problems getting my moves out when I want them out
Enjoyed your video. Where can I purchase the N64 again?
what hudson game do you have in the back playing? looks neat
Robot Ponkottsu 64: Nanatsu no Umi no Caramel.
When FPGAs getting more cable and a smaler chip can do more an omni FPGA like the size of a GBA cart or whatever is the smallest that coule be placed into adapters would likely be the best way to stretch out hardware and reduce cost.
Hello mate, have you noticed any lag in certain games or they all play fine as on original cartridge?
Nice video! I’ve really been wanting to purchase this exact cartridge, so I’ve been hopping between Amazon, EBay, and Aliexpress. Amazon is the most reliable, but Aliexpress is what suits my pockets right now 😂. I’m just nervous because I’ve heard of so many things that can go wrong with purchasing from their site. Also, I live in the US, but have a Japanese N64 that was modded to play both Japanese and US games by cutting out the region block tabs. Do I still set this cartridge to the Japan version?
Lol understandable. So with Aliexpress I made sure to check the seller ratings and customer reviews, i found one guy that had like an 82% rating and immediately clicked away because i knew it was just going to be trouble. I found one seller with a 99.8% rating and at the time had sold just under 400 everdrives, so I felt safe ordering from them, and both everdrives I ordered came to me flawlessly. Just keep in mind that aliexpress does ship from china and we are in the midst of covid, so it might take a month or two to get to you. As far as region locking goes, the cart has spaces in the bottom to allow it to fit in any console from any region. The japanese and north american n64s are completely identical aside from the plastic bit, so the cart will work with whatever you decide to put it in
Japan and North American N64 games you'd set the switch on top to "N".
For PAL games (european) you'd set the switch to "P".
@@brandonkick Thanks so much. Yes, I figured that out not too long ago
@@heyguysitsshea Has anyone noticed ghosting left behind of the title screens game list if its left on that screen too long?
An interesting video. I didn't know anything at all about the Super64. I have just one question: if I try to play a PAL game with Super64 in an NTSC system, what would happen? Would it crash, or run the game with messed up video/audio or something?
Yeah most will play, but they'll be in black and white and the audio is pretty scratchy. There's probably a way to get it to work, but I was never interested enough to try
@@heyguysitsshea that's right, it's the same way with Krikzz's EverDrive 64. However, since my TV doesn't handle PAL, I thought the greyscale video was due to that. Perhaps with a modern TV...
Thank you. You have answered almost every single on of my questions with this video.
I do have one last question before I actually buy one of these:
Are there any problems with going in and adding your own roms or fan mods? One of the main reasons I want to get this is to play Smash Remix on the actual 64. I know that the EverDrive can play fan mods. Can the Super 64?
It sure can! My brothers and I have been playing tons of smash remix lately. OoT randomizer works on it too
@@heyguysitsshea Yeah, not all hacks work as most of them are not optimized for real hardware, but the few ones like Smash Remix, both OoT and Majora's Mask randomizer and a few Super Mario 64 hacks like 3D World work fine (just make sure you have an Expansion Pack to secure you can run almost all games).
@@PikangsFutaba does banjo kazooie hacks from mark kurko work?
@@Snaaake_Beater I haven't give it a try, I may have to soon and see what happens.
@@PikangsFutaba but i see now on amazon it cost 150 dollars
I'm so glad I came across this video as I was just about to buy an ED 64 plus glad to I won't be paying extra for the same product
Here's an odd question you may not know the answer to. That cartridge has a bright red, gaudy, oversized shell. Do you happen to know if I could fit its PCB into a real N64 cartridge shell? I can see I might need to use a half-height SD card and/or remove the NP switch.
There are the required two slots (region switch and sd card slot), so unfortunately won't fit a regular case. You could 3d print one though.
Shea the Everdrive 2.5 actually has battery save and it can emulate NES.
Just for an update. :-)
My Chinese ED64 got fried after playing Perfect Dark using the red night vision. I determined that it was the cheap SD reader. Never could figure out how to fix it, broke down and bought an Everdrive which I’m finding has its own quirks. I was only a week past the amazon warranty on the ED64 too.
Excellent and informative video!
i have EverDrive 64 v1 for many years now and it works great i bought it when it was cheap around 100 dollar now it is double with newer versions
I got a question which everdrive can run turbo grafx games?
Thank you so much for this video. I own 39 original carts and love them, but it would feel nice to have every game on original hardware as well. Super64 it is!
Finally got mine after 2 months of waiting like you said 😂. Everything works well. I just wanted to know, how do you delete SD card saves? Just to make room for future saves when it gets full. Thanks again! This video was very helpful.
You can do that by plugging it into your computer and deleting them from the saves folder. I dont know why youd need to tho lol n64 save data is like a couple kilobytes max, hopefully your SD card can handle that 😂
thx man for all the infos, I was about to buy the ED 64 thinking it was the official one but i'm glad I sticked to the end of your video. I bought the Super64 thanks to you. Keep up the good work
hey where would people need to go to download n64 ROMs onto their self purchased flash drive to insert into the krikzz 3.0 flash drive cart? How do you know what's the best place to download the ROMs from to play via krikzz?
Love it man, thanks for the info.
What was the issue you had with Pilotwings?
Have you tried plugging the SD card into a PC and playing the games on the PC via emulator like project64?
It just wouldn't load idk why. I did try it with project 64 and it worked fine there. It must've been the rom tho because I added a different pilotwings rom myself and it worked on console after that. I think if you have a faulty rom with the super64 you can just add your own and it should work fine
My only qualm about the Super 64 was the ability to enable Gameshark codes but thats it (unless I haven't figured it out), otherwise I think Super 64 is definetly the better option in terms of price and availability/accessibility.
just bought the x5, super useful for playing prototypes that have been dumped, like that new Dino Planet dev cart that got leaked
Can you play them also on the ED 64 Plus?
@@GamerDan89 Is possible to play Dinosaur Planet prototype in the ED64 plus, but I can't remember what save option you have to put the game, otherwise it will crash by giving you an endless loop of "Fox" falling over and over until the game crashes and displays a debug type screen about the crash, I'll edit this comment once I remember what save type you must use to play the prototype, I'm not sure other prototypes, but I tried the Viewpoint one and it didn't load, and one I was interested (Puyo Puyo Sun) didn't load at all, so, you have to do some trial and error to see if a game is playable or not when it comes to hacks and prototype.
Which N64 everdrive is best and how much is a good price point for them?
Thanks for the vid. Why don't you get a CRT? Seeing an N64 running on an LCD in the background hurts a little.
Hi .. Quick question , Does it really work with PAL system N64 console? i heard rumors that it doesn't work/boot up on the N64 PAL consoles even if its physically region switched through the cartridge itself
I guess I cant really answer that question, I don't own a PAL n64 to experiment with. I feel like it should work fine, but I really have no idea. If I were you I'd check around youtube or google to see what the consensus is. My advice is stay away from reddit opinions tho, I mentioned it in this video, but the n64 subreddit is not objective when it comes to anything that isnt the krikzz everdrive. Sorry I couldn't help more!
I have a PAL system and the super 64 cart and can confirm it works on my system just fine.
@@jerrysnowland9398 can you add games(pal) to that drive ?
@Derek Thompson The PAL is a real one.
it works with pal and you can play all regions on pal devices as the voltage is no issue for pal devices
Great Review. Thanks for posting this...
you need to click down c to apply wallpaper, if you click to open it will try and nothing will happen (need to reset)
I am insanely poor right now and pawned nearly everything I own. Finally fixing to get my own place and really want something to play games on. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and hours
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I thought that the Everdrive 64 is a bit pricey and I happened to come across the Super64 at a great price.
The save thing is mildly annoying but I can deal with that.
I have a question, has anyone successfully tried a clone backup on the SD? I tried to clone copy the original to make a backup, and even tried a fresh install with ED64 firmware and dumping the roms. The Super 64 cartridge only recognises the original SD and doesn't like SanDisk even though my PC can view both SD cards.
Did you format the replacement card? It needs to be FAT/FAT32. Once it’s formatted correctly, just copying the contents from the old drive to the new drive should be all you need to do.
Is the Super 64 able to emulate the expansion pack for games like Donkey Kong, or is the physical hardware still needed to play those games that require it?
"Games which required the Expansion Pak, or used it for enhancements, still require its use."
REALLY HELPFUL THX I SUBBED
Do i need the expansion pack on the console for the games that require it?
Thank you for great review !!!
I heard some carts have problems with saving on certain games like adventure games like Zelda MM and Paper mario, even when hitting the reset, does this cart have this problem with that ?
None that I've experienced. I played through both MM and paper mario since buying the cart and had no problems. MM randomizer works fine too.
I just found out about everdrives today. A guy on FB marketplace is selling one that apparently has new goldeneye levels. Does the super 64 version have this too???
Mine came with a rom for goldfinger already on it, but I would check with whoever you're buying it from. If it doesnt have the rom you're looking for, you can just download it too, no big deal
I have the EON Super 64 plug-and-play Video adapter so I can plug my N64 into my UHD TV. But it will never show me the main menu of the Super64 which is super annoying. I read somewhere the menu is 480i instead of 240p which causes problems for any non CRT TV. Any solutions for that?
Do you also need to have an expansion pack for games that normally require it?
Yeah you do
@@heyguysitsshea The same for some hacks and prototypes (like Smash Remix in the hacks category or Mortal Kombat Trilogy prototype that features unmasked Sub-Zero instead of Cage, also the bosses doesn't have their fatalites on that one and masked Smoke has one of Scorpion's fatalities that always crashes the game if it's performed against the Cyber Lin-Kuei characters like Sector).
It emulates SNES games?! What is the maximum capacity of the microSD that this device supports? What is the microSD supoorted format type?
Did you have any trouble loading any games in particular? I’m having issues with WWF No Mercy
Yeah Pilot Wings 64 wouldnt load for me. I replaced the rom and it worked fine after that. If any of your games dont load it's most likely just a rom issue
Stupid question, how do I replace the rom?
@@dgjg218 you just plug the SD card into your computer and replace the rom file with one that works. There are plenty of sites to download roms, just give it a google.
@@dgjg218 Did you get that issue fixed? I'm thinking of getting this mainly for No Mercy because I have the bugged copy and hoping this EverDrive can play a clean version on NM.
No Mercy is why I bought this as well. I still haven’t tried to fix it, but the downloads I’ve seen say that it is the debugged version.
Maybe I just missed it in the video but how do you exit a game? Do you simply reset or shut off your console? I'm probably just dumb and missed the explanation.
You have to reset the console if you want to change games, I didnt mention that in my video lol
How does savign in ocarina of time work? i knwo its a battery save game so u should do the reset thing, but another YTer has been shutting his off and it has been saving?
So I was unsure if just turning off the system actually worked because Oot and Majoras mask are both one of the few games that save directly to the flash board, so I tried it out as soon as I could and I can confirm that no, you cant just turn off the system. You have to hit the reset button if you want it to save
@@heyguysitsshea I'm also noticing your super 64 uses a full size sd card, mine came with a micro sd. Thanks so much! Still love my super 64. I tried the alt64 firmware, do not bother it's so much slower and not worth the added benefits. But I loaded some hacks over the year and a few custom track Mario karts and everything works great still!
My super 64 (the red one) didn't work at any point, did I do something wrong, or did I get ripped off?
I know there’s some issues regarding some Roms not working like Yoshis island and Turok rage war slow down. Do those games work using this super 64?
Just replace the ROM..
@@mizt3r_420 Yes I have, the issue is with getting the rom to be compatible with the emulator.
Just coming back to saving files, I have to press the reset button before turning off the N64. But I do not understand which memory card I have to place in my N64 controller. I never had a memory card in a controller, only my rumble pack. Can you explain this to me? Thanks, Roel
Yeah just google n64 memory pak, most games for the n64 dont require it, but a lot of 3rd party games do. If the original cartridge required a memory pak in the controller than the super64 rom also requires it.
@@heyguysitsshea ok thanks. I didn’t realise that. I always thought the gameplay was saved in the cartridge itself or the expansion pack in the N64 console (e.g. DK 64).
would this also work on an N64 clone machine?
Nice video but one question I would like to ask. Will the super 64 work with the game shark cartridge for cheats?
So you should never put an everdrive on top of a gameshark, it could destroy your gameshark. You can however download cheats to put on your everdrive that works the same way as a gameshark would

Yep, but you'll still need the expansion pal
