Tear DOWN This Wall: Mini Skid Steer vs. Colossal Concrete Block Wall

  • This job entailed the removal of a colossal retaining wall made of concrete blocks. Once the blocks and buried debris are removed 4 triaxles of earth are moved. The backyard is on a steep hill but the customer preferred the hill over the dilapidated wall.
    This job would have been difficult for larger machines to navigate the small backyard. The mini skid steer was perfect for demolishing block Wall, re-grading the hillside and maneuvering throughout the narrow gates. Schott Services is your "backyard demolition specialist"!

    Great job. From my construction days, block walls can be calculated height (3 blocks high is 24"), width (3 blocks wide is 48"). So if you need to know for other service installations and FORGOT, your measuring tape, you can still get a good idea.

    Long time watcher... When you're using the land plane, are you using the float control on the machine, or manually controlling it? Obviously when moving around the yard, it controlled, but for the flat areas, do you float or manual? Thanks

    • @SchottServices
      @SchottServices  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Mostly float but sometimes manual if I need to scrape high areas that the float position just rolls over.

      @@SchottServices5:22 when you went to connect your grapple. I was just wondering if that was ok to connect through hydraulic hose with the engine still running

    • @ajsemtb
      @ajsemtb Před 5 měsíci

      @@tractorworkandmore411 Yes, it's ok. There's no fluid flowing through that connection until it is activated with a control stick. I do it all the time. However, sometimes, I can't because there is pressure built up in the lines from heat/cold, so I shut off my machine, and lock the control valve in the "on" position (fwd or reverse; doesn't matter. Mine has a detent in the reverse direction, so that's what I use) and connect it without problem. But most of the time, you just hook it up and go.

    • @tractorworkandmore411
      @tractorworkandmore411 Před 5 měsíci

      @@ajsemtb thanks, that makes sense. I was always wondering if hydraulic fluid would splash everywhere. And locking it in position with engine off might also make it easier to insert the hose on the low flow side of the machine. I’ll give it a try next time. Thanks

      Great machine. It can overheat when using brush cutter. But if you keep an eye on radiator and blow it out every 15-20 minutes then it does fine. Also, depends on how dusty the area you are working. I wish Vermeer would make forward amd reverse same speed. And speed machine up a bit!

      @@SchottServices thanks for responding I do mostly all hardscape and concrete work so mostly will just be using it to dig for patios, and scooping up concrete and moving gravel. Is their anything I should always have on the job site for the machine like hoses and couplings and things like that sorry if this sounds like a silly question this is my first machine and just trying to see what I should expect.

    • @SchottServices
      @SchottServices  Před 3 měsíci

      Not to much really. I actually only had 1 hose get a leak since I've been running Vermeer. I get new hoses made thru Hosepower which is nearby me. But they do offer 24/7 mobile hose repair if needed.
      I do keep fuses with me but have only had that happen once or twice where a fuse is blown. I've had the random o-ring go bad or it overheat on me in dead of summer. But most days it starts right up every time! Great machine!

      I bought a Vermeer S925tx for my son’s Landscaping business four years ago along with several attachments. He uses it all the time, and in four years he’s only had one small problem; a blown hydraulic hose on one of the lifting cylinders. The Vermeer is a great little machine that also comes standard with auxiliary hydraulics. Also, Vermeer is a huge American company.
