I think that was an '82 Trans Am. The film came out in 1983 but was delayed as it was shot first as "Smokey is the Bandit" without Jerry Reed, and then parts reshot to make it into the film actually released we see here. So by the time it was released we all assumed it was an '83 T/A. I believe non-PMD "Knight Rider" seats were available as seen in this film?
Somebody said it was definitely an early production '83 (remember it was common for next year's model to be available at dealerships months before the calendar year flipped) with an automatic and stock leather/plastic seats, not the optional cloth PMD seats KITT always had. Apparently the style of the automatic shifter handle changed between 1982 and 1983 and the 83 in this film had that particular one a viewer who knows Trans Ams spotted.
@@jamesnoble3502 They were '83s. I had one of them. The car that comes towards the camera and later does the donut on the highway was mine, it was the only one used that had stripes up the hood bulge and regular wheels rather than the bowling ball hubcaps.
I know what I’m looking at. I’ve been restoring, researching, and documenting 82-84 Firebirds and Trans Ams for over 25 years, and have owned/built 16 of them.
WELL AT LEAST THEY DIDN'T BLUR OUT THE REBEL FLAG ON THE TRANS AM ON THIS VIDEO! THATS 👍 I THINK THEY NEED TO BLUR OUT THE X ON THE HAT ON MOVIES WITH PEOPLE WEARIN MALCOM X!
76 LeMans because of the grille, Buford T Justice drove a 77 on the first Bandit film then an 80 Bonneville on the second if I'm not mistaken and an 83 Bonneville on this one.
Smokey and the Bandit part 1 blow s 2 n 3 away. I always loved them turbo cast wheels also known as Knight Rider rims. They made the car look sleek. Its to bad 350s didn't come in these the 305 was nothing to write home about.
Love Jerry Reid, but not in this movie, in that Chevy powered fake Pontiac, never got thru the whole movie, and I've watched Smokey and the Bandit at least 1000 times in 41yrs
Hey man, I believe 83 was a good year for this car, the only problem was the 305 they put in these cars was completely choked by stupid emission control shit. Once you take that shit away, its a really good and reliable motor that, combined with the cars light weight body, can throw down with a lot of newer cars. I have gotten my basically stock 83 trans am up to 120 and up which is way past what the stock speedometer goes up to. I don't want to talk about the v6 option though, I agree that those were garbage along with the tbi.
I find car chase scenes more entertaining then action fight scenes
Agreed. Although, both can be entertaining if scripted and choreographed right.
I love this movie and I watch this on the day I found out that the Bandit passed away
Coleen Kamp!!!! 80s babe. I bought an '83 Trans Am because of this movie.
The original Gymkhana. RIP Ken, RIP Bandit, RIP Snowman, RIP Frog. 🧘🏻♂️
Frog ain't dead.

@@jayb.5017 am I misunderstanding you you're saying that was actually your actual car seen in the movie
WRONG! The Trans Am is an 82 LU5/CC1/N89/64C/AS9, NOT an 83. This is clearly evidenced by the seat belt retaining loops on the AS9 seats.
@@jayb.5017 You are wrong the seat belt things in this scene 1:00 that was only available in 1982 try changed it in1983

Wrong. This 82 has AS9 seats, not AR9 Viscounts.
This movie is so bad I had to come back to it 4 times to finish it. Terrible but I had to watch it.
The stupidest scenes I've ever seen. And I like "some" Pontiacs.

And you think an early 80s 350 was something special? An L69 car will dip into the 14s with ease. An LG4 or LU5 will get there with ease.
