For myself, there's always been a huge disconnect between barber & client. I've never yet in my life gotten exactly what I wanted from a hair beautician. This is why I cut my own hair now, while not perfect it's certainly better than the cutter totally messing up the look. I no longer trust anyone to touch my hair..

This is great for coarse Asian hair as the weight pulls it down making it flat sleek and super straight with no texture or volume thanks for the vid

I'm fifty and my hair grows fast and it's wavy. I tend to get it really short on the sides and back and leave some curls on the top. Never had it styled but may look into getting it feathered somehow. None of the men or women in my family has hair loss and they all have a lot of hair.

My mum kept telling me, the less you tell the hairstylist, the better the cut gets. That´s bullshit in my case, because I don´t want a modern style. Most hairstylists don´t have a clue about how to do old fashioned haircuts that were popular between the 1950´s and 1980´s. I´ve been trying to have a hairstyle like Phil Everly from the famous Everly Brothers, the way Phil had it in the 1983 reunion concert since late 2017 now I tried about 15 different hairstylists, showed them photots from different angles of Phil´s head... not a chance. I slowly found out what I have to tell them so that it comes out the way I want it. It used to be common for men in the 60´s, 70´s and 80´s to use a round brush, a hairdryer and hairspray to get volume. Ya think one single hairstylist could handle that on a guy´s head, my hyad? No.
I did find a hair salon where the boss is cutting himself, he still is a young guy though, but the outcome is at least closer now to what I want. I live in the wrong time... I wish I could go to your salon ;)

Every time I go to the barbers they kept saying your hair cut is gonna be hard for us. well all the customers in the barbers keeps getting only rebond that they almost forget all the knowledge they got

thank you sm for this video! this is the exact haircut i asked a salon to do, but the guy refused to give me it pushed back like this bc he said "youll look like a hillbilly". all the weight is on top and my hair just wants to flop forward. it drives me insane. ive managed to correct it a bit but on side is more flat than the other so im going to try this and see if it helps fix it

I’m a guy and right now I have relatively short hair that’s parted on the left. I want to have hair like this but when it starts getting longer what do I do. Would I follow the instructions in this video or have to do something else at first? Thanks in advance
The problem is all the stylist who could do a feathered hairstyle and cut it RIGHT are getting few and far between. All these recent barber school graduates know is how to clipper cut, "do you want a #2 or a #4?" is all the consulting they know to go over today

I’m still struggling with ladies short haircuts where they want it half way on ear, sometime their hair just won’t cooperate. They want a feathered look on sides. is it me or can this be difficult? Especially on older hair
Not toooooo difficult. Once you have the base length it’s easier to build from. Watch my shorter cuts tutorials.

What product can I use to keep it in that shape? i have been using aussie hair spray but it makes my hair too stuck together. I want it to be able to flow and so it looks natural, I also have a calics on the one said and not the other. I mostly use a hair dryer to get the volume but how can i get it to stay and look natural?

@@ethanmcgonigle6265 It’s like crack. You can move your hair around while it’s in but then it gets it’s hold again once you leave it alone. Best of both worlds. It’s what they used on dudes hair in stranger things. That’s how you know it works.

Do you need to have a certain type of hair for this? I have thick coarse hair I believe?
Styles like this work and look best with thick coarser hair. This wouldn’t work on someone with fine hair. Thick coarse hair can have any style anything and everything looks good plus it can be thinned out and/or razored for texture. I too have thick coarse hair, thinning shears are my best friend get acquainted with them. And ya not likely to go bald anytime soon you got the good hair 🧬
It will work on thick and coarse hair but only if it is straight or slightly wavy.

I can't find any barber or beautician that knows how to cut a mid to late 1970s feathered hair style. Even when I show them a photo of myself from back then they can't get it right. I've even gone to Beauty/Barbering schools and with the teacher standing right there the hole time they can't do it right.
Better going to a hairdresser than a barber, I have this hair and you go to a barber clippers come out and it's a 10 min job, proper hairdresser is better
