Glad to see this so clearly explained. You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't lol) how many stylists don't really get the proportions of feathering.

@@glenfries5828glenfries thank you so much ! Yeah , he explained the philosophy of why a person gets their hair cut that way and sort of how to achieve it but he did not show us how to actually feather cut hair ... especially on women
As an 80s girl, I appreciate the feathered styles. Too many stylists cannot do this cut and it is frustrating. Must be difficult to blend properly...
And adding to the frustration is the fact that this guy didn't show how to actually feather cut hair
I work with a friend of mine I met back in beauty school in the 80's, we work with 3 new cosmetologists that have no idea how to do these haircuts or were taught differently...

@@skittishtrout1638definitely a lost art even with this guy here I mean he explains the philosophy of why you cut it that way and how to do it but he doesn't actually do it tutorial or show anybody how to actually feather cut ahead of hair especially on women with a little bit longer hair
I have longer heavy hair and since I'm getting older now it's all gray so it's coarse, thick and dry. I want to get a short feathered look and that's what I asked for showing a picture of myself going into a Fantastic Sams because I don't have a lot of money. This girl was chopping away at my head and I did not get what I asked for.

Okay this was super informative as to what is needed and why, but you didn't show any actual cutting techniques to get these styles. I would especially like to see how to do the layering in the 2nd haircut (the mid-length guy's layering). Do you have a detailed tutorial you can link me to, and if not, can you do one for the 2nd style? Thank you so much for all your videos.

Amen Frico!!! There are practically 0 hairstylists that can do this!!! Can you do a video on "How to cut a man's hair and not make him look like Eddie Munster???" Had one stylist that did a great job but moved away! I am going to attempt to fix or shall i say, Actually give my husband a haircut. So sick of paying $14 only to have to get it done in another 2 weeks!!

I trimmed my hair myself because my hairdresser doesn't understand the DA cut from the 60's I guess. With short curly hair, I wear it in a sporty cut feathered back with the DA in the back(duck tail) feathered. Plus I have cowlicks. OMG. And I have bangs I can brush to the side. Thanks.

I used to have a stylist who gave me the most beautiful feathered cut and was lightening fast but she got married and moved away. 😢 Now my wife cuts my hair and maybe gets it 80% right. So I went to a professional recently who claims he’s very experienced but he’s never heard of feathering hair. He gave me a completely dorky cut and charged me $80. Wtf! 🤦♂️

It works as long as it close to the ends and not past the middle of the hair

Hey Steve, I want to keep my hair on top thick enough to push back but not too heavy when I let it down.
In the past it’s been too thin and light to push back, so I’m thinking thinning shears towards the ends. What does your professional opinion tell you?

You may need to layer the top a bit. Thinning the ends may only make them look thinner boss.

my mother just cut my hair it's like a slightly longer version of the blonde one in the middle lol and i look like a dick now - it's all square at the bottom if that makes sense? does anyone know how i can make it look a bit less square? the hairdresser isn't gonna be open for at least a few weeks maybe even a few months because of the virus - thank you!
