- 55 Chevy Nomad late production Cashmere Blue! This has to be one of the most rusty Nomads I've ever seen! This car can't be "Saved" Thanks for stopping by Don's Hot Rod Garage!
i was a bodyman 45 years. lots of stuff on there pieces of quarters with tail light pockets front end, rearend, bunches of stuff hood springs, hinges. don`t give it away. haha. stay with it. i love the channel and what your doing.

I think you had to get it for the useable parts, which there are quite a few. You did good Don ! You are also a very generous man that is not just constantly thinking about himself and I personally really like that about you. The Nomads are my dream cars and always have been, especially the 55. Don, I'm good on the 55's. I just got a 90 GMC Suburban V1500 and that's my project right now. 55 Chevy's are actually pretty easy to find in these parts and truthfully, I don't even have a garage yet ! We bought some land in the Olympic mountains of Washington and I retired from 18 years of driving school busses. I also retired from the Navy in 2002. I plan on getting one someday, but no hurry right now. This worlds too crazy right now and everyone thinks its going to get much worse ! I truly believe we're in the last days and its looking like war right here it home ! I mostly work on many projects here and stay nearby to protect what's ours from people when the stores are empty ! I see cars and trucks here all over the place going to waste, so I'm keeping my eyes open for something decent to keep me at home and busy. Just keep making great videos and I'll keep watching. Don, you were so right that this one is worse than "the other one". But I typically would doubt anyone will be able to save "the other one" until I saw what Dan's doing to his. He basically had a good roof & one door. He'll certainly be able to use some of your trim pieces, and maybe some glass. The border opens up on April 1rst (April Fools Day 🙃) so he could make a trip down when the weather improves to one of those Border Mailbox places to save on freight...

It's good that you saved both of them.There is good parts on that second one with the loose roof.That window stainless is hard to find and lift gates are almost non existence to get in these days keep up the good 👍 work

Hey Don , It's Greg again . I was looking around on youtube and found a youtube video Paul Nichols posted Dec 7 2015 . His Nomad shows up a few times in it . The filming took place at K D Dragways . Had not seen that one yet ... sure is a big rise at the far end of the track . I can just imagine how fast a kid could go on a bicycle from the high end of the track back towards the starting line if no racing was happening . Flashback of when our 25 year old was in his pedal car and I had a rope on it . When racing was done we would pre stage , stage , and then I'd pull him down the track part way . Didn't get a time slip for those partial passes .
Hey Greg! Yeah man I know Paul Nichols he doesn't live to far away from me! His nomad was found in a field and he rebuilt it! He drove the car from Columbus Ohio to Oklahoma for drag week. He raced it all week amd slept in the back of the car then drove it back to Columbus! Im sure your kid had some fun getting pulled down the racetrack, heck id enjoy that! Have a good one Buddy 👍

I have brought some beauties home myself but you take the trophy for that one. I can see the trail of debris flying off of it going down the road. But you know there are still a pile of good mouldings and glass for parts. You just don't ever throw that stuff away.

Save it man put a motor in it front end and taillights and a couple of floor pans and seats I would drive it just the way it looks woohoooooo ! Sure miss the old days of doing bodywork and painting thanks Don for sharing this Baddass part of your life ! The White elephant !

Hey Don! You know I need to ask, why did the person or persons keep it and not sell or salvage it or crush it. I know California is a dry state where I live, but man, that is a rusted out car. You are right, in its best days, it must of been a stunner. I was born 1956, I remember the cars of the day and then some in the 60's. I wish I could bought all those cars when I was 16, but who knew and where to store them. I will keep watching buddy! Hope you can save more as you can. Ohio looks cold & stay warm.
Hey Hector! The previous owner was a Tri5 Lover from the early days! He had saved back so many 55-57 Chevys it unreal to find these days! Around here we have plenty of open land to set them forever! I'm one thatbis glad it saved it back so I could drag it home! I've never been into the shiney stuff man I like the ones that have been left behind! Believe or not I have guys that want all the sheet metal to help build a Nomad from scratch! The east coast is full of real Hot Rodders that will absolutely make it happen! Good thing ee have no snow and no rain in abundance. But if you ever had the chance to see the movie American Graffiti, those were the type of cars for me in the 1970s, dragging main at 48 cents a gallon, you name it, it was there. I am the valley, and I have the time now. Keep in touch, isn't Cincinnati in Ohio. I have trip planned for meeting some friends for a Numismatic show. Wow Don!!! The latest NOMAD you've gotten is a real goner but good hard to find parts that are on it. Yea its sad to see what it looks like now!😨 Yea you could keep a lot of the good parts on that crusher nomad and use the parts for the NOMAD with Cragars on and some for the sedan if Dan from DD speed shop doesn't want those NOMAD parts. I can see he really needs those trim parts! Ohio is not far from his Canadian residence if he thinks that shipping would be a killer???? The dash trim, the steering wheel the support brace for the radiator the grille and others are great parts for you or some for Dan whatever you guys work out and yea that was once a nice NOMAD with its color still showing! Its sad to see that car gonna go away soon but thanks so much for showing this latest acquisition I enjoy your channel and look forward to your future videos, keep up the good work on these tri-5s and your channel! I started with 2 head of cattle, now I’m in my 80s and I have 800 Holsteins lots of work yes but satisfaction is a wonderful thing ,also money made

I tell you what there have been so many cars Don has sold over the years that had those cool factory little trinkets as he says that are just what you really wanna see when you buy a clasic car. He searches hi and low for perfect doors or stuff like that ground strap. If you bought a car that Don was putting together and he decided to sell boy the attention to detail is second to none. No corners cut. Way to save what you can Bro!! It's sad to see them that bad but save what you can as always

Hey Matthew! I don't think the back glass is cracked but it is fogged around the edges! They sell all the glass new for like $1200 bucks! I'll still save all this its better then nothing! Catch you next time 👍

This pack rat sees a good steering wheel, horn and the braces for the back hinge etc. I'm sure you'll get all the stuff you can. I'm not a Chevy guy, I've already got a bellybutton. But they got that 55 so RIGHT. I have learned from your channel and might even come around. Two Lane Blacktop, The Pom Pom Girls, and American Graffiti had their effect. Good luck.

Eastwood has a spray on chrome paint that trim like that you could fill the pits with bonds then use the spray on chrome and it would look like new

Yeah, most people with souls can see things like that. And it's not just cars, it's houses, buildings musical instruments, guns, the list is endless. I say if you've got something like that and you're not going to do anything with it pass it on to somebody who will! Letting it sit there and rot is borderline criminal.

Cracked Nomad side glass is better than no glass at keeping the weather out. Throw the sedans front clip and lift gate on the 1st Nomad and you have a working silhouette. Draw and quarter the corpse of the 2nd Nomad and stash it away somewhere safe till the saveable one is done

The bad thing that happened with nomads is back in the 70s&80s nobody wanted them cause they always leaked from day one rear hatch and side windows they were just always wet inside unless you lived in like California or Arizona I remember when you could buy fairly clean nomads still daily drivers for 800-1200 bucks all day long lol. Alot of these started rusting out in the back and rear floor pans at only 5-10 years old though. East cost cars if daily driven and parked out side were toast at 10 years old max. Only ones left now are ones that originally came from southern regions as new.

Well don, youve got another great find. Only the real hot rodder will understand why we go an get these old broken down rides. Just look at all the hard to find parts that you now have.for the other nomad/sedan. What a great find it is. Some people just don't get it but we sure do. Parts, ,parts an more parts. You just can't never have enough of them. Your right, i do believe its to far gone to build. However it does have some great parts on it an that's all that matters. Once you transfer them over to the other nomad an sedan then hopefully people will then understand why we do what we do. An drag home what's left of an old automobile. Lol. Glad you had a good an safe trip there an back. Now the work begins. The warmer weather will sure help when it comes to stripping it down. Have a great Sunday an a awesome week to come.
