Yes, I agree totally! After using Nikon for years, I switched to M43 and the Lumix G9.
I thought, that Nikons ergonomics are unbeatable ... but I was wrong! The handling of the G9 is just fantastic!
The autofocus speed and accurracy is perfect an the image quality is very good.
It is the perfect camera for travel and streetphotography. Easy and fast to use, reliable and robust.

    I love it.
Just acquired the Panasonic 100-400 in addition to the other lenses for wildlife photography. I was really astonished what I can do without a tripod just by using the stabilization.
The 100-400 is huge compared to my other lenses. However: it's way smaller than any comparable Full Frame lens.
As I always tell people: Now there is still some room for water in my backpack when out in the wilderness :)

Great video! I had purchased my first G9 (I have a second now for event photography/backup) about a month before this video. You nailed every factor. I'm incredibly pleased you discussed ergonomics. Too many beginners just look at specs. Using a camera you enjoy using makes a difference in the photos. It shows.
Before moving to New York, I sold as much photography equipment I could. I sold my technically superior Canon 5D MKII over the 50D. Yes, I knew I would get more money for it. But I just loved, and still, love using my 50D. I shot with it for about a year before I switched to m43. 3 years later, the G9. The G9 feels much like my 50D ergonomically. With superhero abilities!

Hi Matti. I bought a used G9 withe the Lumix/Leica 100-400mm lens and what a great combo. It feels really good in the hands. View finder is way better then the Olympus. I came from the Canon camp and have enjoyed the multistick for moving the focus point for over 10 years and was glad that the G9 had that. Oly finally did but just on the pro E-M1x. The only downside is the hair trigger shutter button. Lastly the top LCD is a great thing as well.

Matti, I really enjoy your videos and this one cemented even more so, my decision buying the G9! Question...for landscape...not video but photography...do you recommend the 15mm 7.1 or the 8x18mm ? I'm looking for a beautiful tack sharp (on a tripod) picture! I realize they are 2 different lens types but, I want something that will look good reprinted and or published in a book! I have the 35-100mm already. Look forward to your next video & Thank you in advance!!!

    • @antho6891
      @antho6891 Před 4 lety +3

I own both the 8-18mm f2.8-4 and the 15mm f1.7. If you just want to do landscape photography I would recommand the 8-18 as it will give you way more flexibility. Stopped down to f4 it will be as sharp, if not even a little bit sharper than the 15mm. The 8-18 is also wheater sealed, so if your body is it's also a plus !
Do you own the 35-100 f2.8 ? What's your opinion about this lens ? I am considering trading my 14-140 for this one !

Thank you for that input antho! Now to find a bearable price! The 35-100 is a wonderful lens ...F2.8 throughout ! I chose it over the 100-400mm...Not enough difference in picture quality, and the OIS in both glass and my camera, G9, so I chose to save money until I see a need to make a difference. It has wonderful video qualities as well! Thanks again for sharing!

I love my G9 too. Unfortunately it is in the camera shop now. I have taken 10,000 pics in 4 weeks. Hi speed shooting wildlife. After an hour shooting this way it created a hot dead pixel. That dead pixel takes out the whole row on the sensor so even single shot shooting gives a noticable line on every RAW file I take. This also happened on my GX80.

@@MrZombs123 I did not contact Panasonic directly. The camera shop said they've only ever had 1 other camera returned with a dead pixel. It is under warrenty yes. 2 years and option to extend to 4 years. The line can appear at first and then return to normal after a while. But I believe high speed shooting constantly will make the damage permanently. I will have to use the function sparingly. I don't want to test it just to see if the sensor breaks again.

No other brand is able to make a so small, light and sharp 150mm F1.8 equivalent. And Pana only offers a compact 200-800 equivalent who weighs less than 1kg. amazing camera with a 1 MAJOR flaw - hot pixels with any exposure above 1 second with or without LENR. This happens even under winter temperatures. I had 2 copies of the G9 and both had this problem, all photography forums have pointed this out as well. Panasonic messed up big time and are not addressing this problem - this is the reason I cannot use this camera for long exposures or night photography. Removing them in post takes very long and there are way too many to remove.
Matti, could you help send the message to the Lumix folks to see if they can do a "sensor replacement" program?
Ergo, stabilization, and EVF on the G9 is superb. The Gh5 also suffers from hot pixels, but GH4 did not. The E-m1 mark ii doesn't have any until hitting past 1 min. I also have a Sony full frame and an older X-T1, dislike the ergo but they don't suffer from hot pixels (even with LENR off).

I'm sure it takes great photos but first you have to get past the God awful Panasonic menu system! Why have 1 screen when 17 will do? That is the primary reason that drove me back to Olympus,

For me the stabilisation is essential on these cameras as I like to shoot long focal lengths handheld. Its also extremely useful for video and for just keeping iso low in stills.
