Had so much fun with this game, I was so disappointed when it was abandoned, truly could have been a legendary game, oh well fingers crossed for renown 🤞
I still remember making my first house. Two floors and everything. Some guy killed me one day when i opened the front door and he flew into my house and locked himself in. I respawned and ran to a small castle where knights lived. I told them that some guy stole my house and they went to the house had me describe the layout of the building inside and whats inside. They forced there way in and confirmed the info i gave. They then roped the theif and had him hung in the castle with a gathering of spectators. The whole expereince was amazing!
@@blanketparty5259 bro that sounds so amazing! sadly i haven't found the game earlier...
same it was so fun. hard but fun
I still had a lot of fun with it regardless and a lot of nostalgia.
Si im here too late for this game😭
With my boys and a few ransoms, we had a revolution against the current king. We fought tooth and nail up the arm, breaking through their walls and killing players with the best armor in the game. Someone surrendered, and we roped them and left them to dangle off the shoulder. When we got to the head where the king was, he fought hard but had no men left.
Eventually a larger clan got online and deposed me as king, and the same fate happened to me. When they breached the final door, rather than be captured I leapt from the window.
Great story telling
what happened after you leapt from the window?
@@wolflightning2331 prob died
Macbeth in a nutshell minus the witches
That's awesome good times
This was a awesome game, I personally stopped playing cause of hackers and dead servers. I really hope this game somehow is revived with fresh graphics and anti cheat. Would definitely play again
^
Try Mordhau
Hell me and my friends loved this game. We sometimes joke about trying to buy the game off the dev and fix it.
renown will be the solution! i hope every person who played reign of kings will like it
It won’t be
Loved this game, but the flood of cheaters and the devs ruined it for me
the devs don't have a good history either
This game was pretty awesome when I played, really good roleplay community too
Must have been ages ago, when I played a while ago it was only exploiters and cheaters who would glitch into your base and spend hours of their time to destroy all your shit
@@prodigalmanifest7650 I played I think shortly after FrankieonPC uploaded his first video on it, I ended up playing for a while fairly neutral on a roleplay server, some great memories there, King ended up being an ass telling me I couldn't live where I was and then some Rebellion players came to recruit me and it ended up with an assassination on the King and throwing him off the edge as a siege started acting as some kind of spy. Good times.
Shame it missed out on its potential
Reign of Kings was my entire life for a month or so. Remember my friends and I spending 12 hours assaulting the kings castle and how we had a guy betray us.
Still, 3 out of 3 games abandoned = Never let these guys make another video game ever again
Loved the game I only stopped playing when my friends and I spent a week building a large castle with a moat only to have a hacker glitch in and take over the castle and delete it all in a single day.
The glitch was available for everyone to use noob
I was an early player of reign of kings, pretty much bought it a day or two after its release. I loved the game, it thrived most on roleplay servers. I will always have the memory of my character Tiki, who was a character with split personality who thought he was an Asian shop keeper. With his small stature and his unwillingness to wear anything besides the tiki armour. Tiki became loved in the server for his good prices and regularly held duels to defend his honour, you don't scam tiki! Later to be insulted by the kings men, only to lead an army of 40 soldiers against the kings 30 in a bid to take the crown for himself. Upon winning the war being a loved king for a week, the very same people who helped tiki rise to power watched him become corrupt and raising the taxes to 20%. Rebelling against king Tiki, pushing him to be the last one standing to fight 20 men 1 on 1 until he was defeated after the 13th man.
RIP King Tiki and Reign of Kings
Truly a magical experience for me. Will miss it forever
This was one of the games I was most excited for, though I never personally got a chance to play it. I hope that someday there can at least be a fan revival of this game if nothing else.
A game where you could give the Kings castle a massive member, and proceed to execute prisoners from the tip of said junk. Love the block building in that game, wish more games would allow you to build the way you could in that one.
Starforge was the first crowd sourced game I invested into, luckily it was a terrible scam which taught me an important lesson to be careful with EA, gofundme and any other crowd sourced campaign.
Same, ended up buying into the founders edition back in the day. After Code}{atch, I always do more investigating before buying into any EA.
I loved this game so mutch. I miss running through the plains with other players like a flock of monkies. Or living on the far reaches as Tribals and attacking any unsuspecting travlers. Or running a small trade net work where sold stone and ores to a clan for goods.
Oh wow. I remember watching this game when i was younger. I hoped it would end up awesome.
I loved that game! take over the throne and turn up taxes; "DOWN WITH THE KING" somebody came and killed the kind, lowered the taxes to 5%; "LONG REIGN THE KING".
I spoke with 2 of the devs 1 who got fired and basically told me the main owner/dev got money hungry and fired the whole team. I spoke with the owner and he got mad after i asked why he abandoned ROK and blocked me. My personal opinion was he was money hungry, multiple people offered to buy the game outright over 20thousand . He just wants to milk it to the end . I had fun on there for over 3 years , its sad
Well, the survival genre is slowly dying. Tarkov is going on one way or another, but it relies on "Realistic Combat Experience" rather than regular Survival-Mania
easy way to bring back tarkov: make it available on steam
Rust is still going strong, but it's getting harder and harder to call it a survival game
Tarkov is boring af
Yeah, but it uses "Realistic Combat Experience" extremely loosely. In fact I think it play more like COD with gear you lose.
@@cassu6 you probably never played Tarkov
i Still play this regardless of the hacker plague because its such a beautiful looking game, the graphics, the music, the crafting system, i really have rose tinted glasses for it. Caught a few hackers and filmed them on my channel to teach them a lesson. i'll never abandon the game even though the Devs did. its a shame really man where the game is currently at, it truly is.
I never played it sadly didn’t get a PC till long after it was abandoned it’s such a good concept I wish a competent company would do it again
I remember watching this game as a kid and thought it looked so fun, I just remembered it today and I'm so glad I found it, so many memories from awesome videos.
What a throwback, i remember when this game was big on youtube and it was a huge community thing, completely forgot about it since it just vanished
one of the best games my family has ever had the joy of banding together to play, lining up treb shots across the map with a spotter so we could fire from our base and raid from home, becoming important figures and keeping the king's seat for weeks, defending against rebellions when we jacked the taxes and tried to encourage pvp, renting servers and participating in events on others. we personally had very few experiences with cheaters, our biggest downfall was the game itself dying. i would do anything to go back to those days and play this again
It was the game of my dreams in 2015
Dude I remember one of the Devs responding to a discussion from a guy asking if they're ever adding mounts. His response was, "We just don't want to". Kinda threw me off of supporting them. They make games to their liking and jump ship once they see player base leaving. If they would just buckle down and stick to updating their games, ROK and Heat would still be thriving today.
my friend was so excited to get and play this game with me. he talked about it all day
The early days of Reign of Kings are still some of my favorite time spent on games, got ruined pretty quickly though with a flood of cheaters
there are still server popping up every few months most often made by the same owner im playing on Game of Thrones l LEGACY l RP/PVP so whoever wants to play join that server
It's a shame this game is dead. It was an incredible and out of the ordinary gaming experience. Lots of interesting gameplay decisions, although I don't like medieval setting, but this game was an exception.
I will never forget my first time playing the game. The first connection to the server, running on the beach, and immediately ran into three people who tied me up, dragged me by a rope on the beach, and then dragged me to their base, and hung me on the gallows. 😂😂
Reign of kings has fallen, Renown has risen.
Exploits/hacks were the worst thing. Everyone hacked/exploited and there was never any attempt to stop it from the dev team.
It had massive balance issues that were never solved, too. For instance, you could destroy an enemy emblem then pick up every single block of theirs. Their entire castle could be put in your pocket and you run away. Ridiculous.
I'm hoping Renown ends up being similar to this. The devs for that game seem really passionate and hard working.
Once I used a falling tree to climb through a window in the castle miles up and stole the throne.
Bro, I was looking for this game for years, remember Frankieon1080pc playing this? Thought it had some magic, like early rust.
:( I never will forget summer break playing 50h weekly :( It was best summer ever
The only thing I remember from playing RoK is getting invited by the king into his castle... and it was full of literal Nazi Banners and paraphenelia
This game was super fun on release. We loved joining as a few people and randomly making friends and enemies. We'd usually get fucked overnight, but shit happens lol rebuild time is fun too.
Wait a minute, I never heard of this game! Wish I got to play it when there was a big player base. I’ll just wait for renown then I guess
the good old days
The best thing about their games was how incredibly buggy they were. The exploits were quintessential to succeeding against other clans. I had bases underneath the throne room for months at a time. You could place a chair inside the walls of someone's base, look though the wall, sit in it and be inside. It was glorious. It got less fun for me when they actually fixed many of these bugs.
What if we all hopped on and started playing??
Oh you forgot how to add how every one of the davs were actually toxic to most people..
If I recall right with every individual that didn't like the devs presence in their server they got mad and eradicated everyone not back to back but every now and then.. it was impossible to build. I say thats what killed it
This game was great. We need something like this back
Ill be honest when this was out it looked amazing but then it just instantly slid out of my mind.
Bruh I had a blast. I remember that I went into the wild and a black guy called Shed who had the biggest feet came with his longsword and beheaded me lol. He started a war
Loved this game, me and a childhood friend of mine used to take over the throne, raise all the taxes to max and then await the revolution and the combat that came with it, sad it had to end like it did
Them abandoning the game wasn’t budget or lack of experience. They made money on the first game, then made ALOT of money on RoK as a early release. Abandoning their games as a unfinished product was rewarding them so they made their cowboy game. And when their fans either didn’t buy or sent bad reviews, they disappeared with all the money they made as their company. Ruined their reputation and they now know it.
Side note: all 3 games looked/played the very similar. They weren’t coming up with too much innovation. They should’ve stuck with RoK. Although they made good money by alienating their fans by screwing up a third time rather than making RoK a good ass game, that I’m sure they’d have made more money in sales and cosmetics in the long run.
What’s the difference between an “abandoned” game and a game that reached its intended completion?
PC players always complain about games being abandoned, but in reality the game is still there. We’re just so hard wired for live service game addictions “completing a game”
I miss this game
made some of my best online friends on this game, 7+ years of friendship after meeting at the rocks at the edge of the flax field. a shame its abandoned.
I've never heard about Reign of Kings before. Neither have I heard of Renown before.. but it looks interesting, so I put it on my wishlist and wait what will come of it. I do like medieval type survival games. I did put some 400 hours into Life is Feudal Your Own, which isn't much for this game, but I did enjoy it, even though it has it's issues.
The more games come out the lower the chance is to play these older games. Sadly no one plays Fort Zombie 1 anymore.
remember cutting down trees onto bases so i could climb into them and steal their stuff
Great game for a short while
As soon as I heard about starforge my face puckered. “ Oh so it was those guys “
Steam deck compatibility could bring it back
Really loved this game, I wish another company was able to take it over and build on it. Code}{atch are dogshit and it really is such a shame.
It’s funny I was just thinking about this game literally 4 days ago. And now it appears on my timeline..
i remember my first time trying this game i saw a naked hacker with a club chasing two fully geared knights across a field.
Not much of a lack of funding when you can make 2-3 other games after it... Sad because it would have been good for PVP and roleplay alike if they had kept working on it, let the community mod, or just make it available for a studio to pick up or something
It was genuinely very enjoyable. For the time it was alive.
I hope to see a reign of kings 2 one day 🙏🏽‼️
They gave me a refund two years after my original purchase because I made a complaint regarding performance making the game unplayable for me. So I don't believe at any point there abandonments were due to greed... Mainly just incompetence, lack of experience and the inability to commit to one project. Had they just stuck with RoK, it really could've been up there with Ark and Rust. They've completely destroyed their reputation now and I can't imagine they'll ever come back from this as indie developers.
I really wish that another indie game studio buys this game off of codehatch so it can finally thrive again and be a very big game
Love seeing all the Renown hype in the comments boys, stay patient
I think any game where the go to description is "its like " is pretty much doomed.
I didn't realize they made starforge, I was looking forward to that game AGES ago, but forgot it's name and couldn't follow it, sad that it died as well.
I remember watching fairlightexcalibur and rhinocruch playing this.
Weirdly Early Alpha this game was in it's best state with most servers 30/30 players and very few exploits, as a multiplayer game it lasted a long time - it only died because of bad admins and the hacks/exploits but it lasted a lot longer than I expected, I've played a lot of games but nothing came close to the Adrenaline Rush you get from raiding and killing other players.
Played the game intensively back in 2015-2018 and was alpha on EU west most of the time, its was a very sweaty and hardcore game. But the hackers, exploiters and people chest duping tier 5 blocks and trebstones killed the game. There was an update back in 2016 I believe where they nerfed the trebstones and increased the resources to make them which ruined raiding and resulted in the smaller clans not able to defeat the bigger ones. The trebstones did like several hundred thousand damage on impact before the update to alot less which increased the raid time pretty significantly and people couldn't bother try to raid the bigger bases after that, so people started more duping and hacking to get the trebstones faster to have a chance against the bigger clans. Codehatch fucked up this gem of a game
Had so much fun with this game, best RP game back in the days!
Man the peak of this game was some great entertainment
Warband pw needs to be mentioned. It wasnt a builder, but it delivered what this is trying to.
I loved this
never heard of this one. since i got conan exiles ive had my survival itch scratched
There's one more server up right now it's doing pretty good
oh dang i remember the yogscast playing starforge forever ago
hey dude what's up with manor lords? Long time no update
There’s still an active server 15+ guys called SCARS V2 NO WIPE (half friendly half not haha)
I and everyone I know quit because of the Chinese region lock being disabled by the devs. Every single server was flooded by Chinese players and cheaters ruining any possible enjoyment in the game.
Just goes to show how good Facepunch is as a dev team: DayZ, Reign of Kings, The Forest, and Rust were the prime survival games and out of all of them Rust has thrived the most.
Idk the Forest and DayZ are still some of the most known games out there
Def far away from dead
@@hub_1.15 You can be known and still be dead, but to clarify I didn't say they died, I said they failed to thrive, and I'm basing this on Steam charts where Rust is consistently in the top 10 even when new games come out. It averages about 140K players a day and has seen steady growth since 2013 while the others have basically plateau'd. Out of the games I mentioned only DayZ comes close and it only averages 45K players a day.
Btw, steam charts has a great feature where you can click on a game, click on the button "compare with others," add a bunch of other games on the list, then set to "ALL." I did that for these games and the results are clear: Rust surpassed its survival game revivals and Reign of Kings is a dead game.
Edit: I forget to add 7 Days to Die but same applies.
@@Athasin im glad that you clarified so yeah
I agree
How had I never knew this game even existed??
I still miss this game and it’s 2024
I played on day one for a short time. Had potential but I got sick of getting tied up
So many memories
dang, would loved of too play this, it seems really fun, too bad it got abandoned by the devs :(
Hopefully renown does what this game couldn't
After they got me with star forge I had hope but was very skeptical cause I was just a kid an had to beg my mom for money just for the game to not get any more updates after I bought it
I loved this game. One day I will recreate something similar when im rich.
I remember this game was so cool
Oh the memories.
Put 600 hours into RoK, some of my best gaming memories come from that game. So sad that the devs just didn't care.
They were just too greedy and focused on short term gain. They weren’t making the money they wanted, even though after the game was finished it would of paid off
@@etholus1000 The game sold really well on release, they updated it for maybe 6 months? a year? then moved on to heat.
Every game they've made is just a quick cashgrab, and it works somehow...
the project was abandoned due to hackers ... they ruined everything
This game was special , there's something about it. The mechanics were good , the lighting and ambiance were great and even the glitches and ragdoll is still was makes it so unique. It was definitely worth the 20$ that I initially invested. Even if they make renown its not gona be as perfect as reign of king was . Reign of king was cruel and hardcore the way it should be. Sure optimizations would be appreciated for better fps during fights and some glitch need work but overall for the price , it was a hell of a fun game.
It's a damn shame it's dead really, it's too bad that hackers killed it. You cant even kill them anymore , they have god mod and just remove your blocks and take all your loot.
They have to at least fix the hacking aspect if they intend to keep selling on steam , that thing is a ripoff now at 12$
I have a feeling these guys will release a banger or atleast the devs
Reign of kings failed due to it being 100% player controlled. Brit bong proved this when he literally captured an admin and executed him by hanging him to death. In game.
i really miss this pearl
Hmm... I didn't know J.J. Abrams had a game company.
Interesting to see the comments of people saying they enjoyed this game. I got burned on starforge and assumed this was just another cash grab scam.
ROK was a fucking banger back in the day
imagine if facepunch studios made this...
what time does the crown server reset?
we're still playing !
cost of dev vs income... cant blame them at all
