Hestia is like the quiet nice older sister who is always in the background doing her duties and never creating drama for herself. Yet she's always reliable and the most responsible.
Or having A relationship either.
Arthemis, Athena and Hestia are ace goddess protectors
Hestia received the most prayers and offerings from all the Olympian Gods with every meal cooked in a home. She really was the most important of the Olympian gods.
Yeah, too bad she never actually got a part in literally any myth.
@@theluminaryofthestars4181 You haven't read up on her. She's been in plenty of myths and is an extremely important figure in the Greek Gods pantheon.
@@vginsprdsobepr9698 oh, I didn’t realize that, I guess I just didn’t see her in myths a lot.
@@vginsprdsobepr9698 Yes and no.
Lady Hestia is an important deity in the Ancient Greek RELIGION (and it's modern depiction within Hellenism, my faith), but She is virtually absent within the myths because, as the Keeper of the Olympian Hearth, She remind immobile.
No matter what happens, Hestia, First and Last, will always be there.
My headcanon is Hestia was the quartermaster in charge of logistics that enable Olympia victory against the Titans.
She may never fought on frontline, but she made sure Olympian camps were well fed, well slept, well cared.
Thats why she was highly respected by all the Gods and held a very special position within Olympians.
Definitely a responsible goddess. She focuses on her work instead of meddling in the affairs of mortals or the petty squabbles of other gods.
Hephaestus as well
@@localroachy9309 and Hades
@@ladynikkie Agreed
True they're a few gods and goddesses either Olympians or non were the only ones they don't interfered the lives of Mortals and they remained neutral, and its like keeping the world in balance instead of disrupting it. Its also like let the universe take care of things not them.
Yep, Hestia, Hades and Hephaestus are the only gods who to my knowledge never caused trouble for mankind. Hestia blessed homes of the living, Hades tended to the dead when their time came and though Hephaestus made weapons, he couldn’t be held responsible for what others did with them.
Thank You for covering Hestia, in my opinion she doesn't get as much recognition as she honestly deserves within Greek Mythology.
most passive Gods Hestia and Hades
@@ARCANINE-km5nu they're practically the most responsible gods. They focus on their tasks the most
Lasso of truth thanks to Hestia goddess of the holy flame... Most chaste of all Olympians....
@@ARCANINE-km5nu both are the eldest brother and sister
@@ladynikkie ya bro
Also Hestia was known as the goddess of hope along with childbirth and family. Great job with the hearth domain.
Firstly, no, that's Elpis, the personification of hope and the only spirit that remain with man when Pandora released said spirits onto mankind. Lady Hestia can be associated with hope, as She is the Keeper of the Hearth, a flame that will never be extinguished. But never considered to be the goddess OF hope.
Secondly, it is Artemis, Hera, and Eileithyia that are associated with childbirth:
Artemis would care for the infant (as she did for her twin brother, Apollon), Hera would care for the birthing mother (as she is the goddess of mothers, wifes, and heirs), and Eileithyia, daughter of Zeus and Hera, would be the one who actually aids in the birthing process. The only way Hestia was involved in childbirth is that afterwards, the newborn was paraded around the family's hearth for three days as to introduce the child to Queen Hestia.
Lastly, and certainly not least, the family part is absolutely correct. Hestia is the one whom Ancient Greek families would pray to for daily troubles, She is the one who gathered everyone around the burning hearth to eat, drink, and remind one another that they are never alone.
@@colt9836 Well, childbirth is part of family. So, she could be associated with childbirth even if she’s not one of the official goddesses in childbirth.
As I recall, she’s also the eldest of all Cronus’s children, and yet she had no ambition to take the throne! _And_ I think there was a tradition where whenever there is a feast held at a home, the first offering always goes to Hestia, for gratitude for the feast! She’s definitely my favorite Olympian!
I think Hades is the oldest
@@amitystan Hades is the eldest of the _Big Three_, of the three male Elder gods. But of the all the 6 of the Elder gods, it is Hestia to be born first
Firstly: "Hestia, in the high dwellings of all, both deathless Gods and men who walk on earth, you have gained an everlasting abode and highest honor: glorious is your portion and your right, for without you, mortals know not of banquet--where one does not duly pour sweet wine in offer to Hestia, both first and last. And you, Argeiphontes (Hermes) [...]"
Homeric Hymn 29 to Hestia and Hermes.
Yes, it was expected that one sacrificed a portion of your meal to Lady Hestia, both in the beginning and end. As it was the fat that Hestia would use to fuel the Olympian Hearth, and thus, the fires on earth.
Secondly, there is no mythological biases on Hestia liquishing Her throne to Dionysus; the 12 Theoi are either or, not both.
@@colt9836 I'm pretty sure there's a couple of versions of the stories where Hestia actively chooses to give up her position as one of the twelve explicitly so that little Dionysus (one of the youngest of the gods) can take it? I remember the tone of the translation making it feel very much "Yeah, you go play and have fun with the others, I'll start lunch for when you all get back"
@@VoidWalkerOblivion No, there is NO mythological evidence that Lady Hestia gave up Her throne to Dionysus. She is considered an Olympian, no matter what the context is because She was the one that offerings to the Gods went through, especially burnt offerings. When people say the 12 Olympians, it's a more-or-less average. It could be 13 (if you count both Hestia and Dionysus); Hades as a Chthonic (subterranean) god, THE Chthonic God, as he is the king of the Underworld, isn't technically an Olympian, as the lattermost are "Ouranic" (of the sky). But I wouldn't be annoyed if someone counted Hades among the 12, 13, or 14 Theoi.
Finally my fav goddess. She's perfectly describe, "don't mind me i'll just sit on this side while keeping you all warm. But, if you want to join me, i'll welcome you ☺️☺️" said this while giving us a warming smile.
Kind of like the mother from "The Emperor's (and Kronk's) New Groove".
While everyone else is running around getting/causing trouble, she's like "I'll just sit here like a sane person".
Men i love Hestia, she is amazing and such a kind Goddess.
Hestia and Hades inherited all the Responsibility genes.
Hestia also has to be the most selfless of the Olympians/minor gods/goddesses considering in some myths she was the only one willing to gave up her birthright as one of the Olympians as daughter of Kronos and Rhea and let Dionysus have her spot in the throne room of Olympus. Something Hades might not do if he had a choice to be part of the Olympians.
Keep the Greek mythology coming. Can't get enough.
Hestia will always be my favorite goddess. Kind and unproblematic
Wow one of the few goddesses Zeus respected enough not to mess with.
Zeus pleasure himself with the image of Hestia in his bedroom.
Its crazy to me that aphrodite is one of the other very few goddesses he respected since she is the goddess of love and beauty
@@msb46 she's her daughter
@@vladilenamilize7921 His daughter but you are correct.
@@stevengreen9536 lol
Been looking forward to a concise video about her, shame there's so little known about her. If anyone is interested the Percy Jackson book series definitely gives her the most love
I would just say that Athena and Artemis are very strict with how they deal with their work, but Hestia is the complete opposite like she’s not too strict but she’s pretty kind well she does have to be a little strict just not too strict.
I would rather call her very responsible than strict.
She takes her task seriously but in the opposite of Artemis or Athena she doesn't intervent in the mortal realm.
She is basically the kinder version of Hera with the only difference that she isn't responsible for birth, marriage or similar things.
Instead she is only interested to keep every family save and sound.
Funnily, there is a myth where she gives Prometheus the fire of Olympus so that he could help the humans.
But sadly the other gods found it out.
Hestia didn't get punish because she act with a good intention, but Prometheus on the other hand suffered torture.
But the story doesn't end there though.
Hestia was sad about Prometheus destiny but couldn't do something against his punish, as it was absolute.
So to make amend, she gave every human and family her bless and so, protect them from dangers.
Or to make it short: she became the protector of humanity.
This is also the why every praid and sacrificed to her first before the other gods.
Last but not least, while she never got a temple, because she didn't want one, every family praid to her when they were at home and cared about their hearthfire.
The reason for this was, that, accord to the the greek people, she was everywhere present where there was a home.
As long as you cared about your family and care about the hearth, she would bless and protect you from any danger.
So funnily you could say that, of all gods she is a near omnipresent entity because she is in literally every home xD.
So her domain is basically all homes and nations.
And if we include the place where she protects the olymp hearthfire she has even a far greater domain and influence than the other gods! XD
@@MirrorOfEmotionsHestia’s presence in real life makes up for her lack of presence in myths.
She was not bride, neither mother, but became goddes of family- what's kinda beautiful.
I like to think since Hera is more into the the traditional mother father children family she represents Nuclear family where as Hestia cares for a family as a whole besides the traditional ones she represents the extended family since both goddesses are goddess of family.
Hestia is one of my favorite Greek Gods.
Hestia is obviously a great goddess.
Make more of thisss!! The art is so EPIC. I suggest you to make selene and hemera
I used to not understand what gods of hearth were cause it seemed weird of dominion over fireplaces, back when I was a kid. Now I'm older I c its the same thing as a fire god/goddess. Hestia was of hearth/fire 🔥, home, but she was also of family. I think her Egyptian counterpart was Taweret.
If I was born in Ancient Greece or during the Roman Empire, I would have become a priestess of Hestia/Vesta.
If you would be born as a roman girl/ woman, then you could indeed become a priest of her.
But you would also be forced to never marry someone and could never get children too.
In the greek society however, I think there wasn't such a group like it was in rome.
Well, as it was a part of the culture you would have to pray to her anyway.
@@MirrorOfEmotions the thing is that isn't really a problem since I'm asexual and don't want to have kids.
@@constancaferreira7212
Ok, then that shouldn't be a problem.
Still, to become a priestess of Vesta, the roman version of Hestia, you would still have to be a roman woman because as a greek woman it wouldn't work because like I said, there is sadly not such a group there.
And there are also no temples where you could work as her priestess anyway.
On the other hand, if you think you are good to convince people from your own ideals maybe could start a cult which does the same what the Vesta priestess later did.
praise an Hail to Hestia !
and Praise and Hail to Hades!!!!!!
Hestia and Him are the more modest of every single god and goddess in Ancient Greece will ever be! They should be King and Queen of Olympus!!!!!!!!!
An impressive Goddess that played an integral role in the home cults of the Greeks and Romans. She is the domestic fire and the embodiment of civilization
Underrated goddess
I would like to see her in god of wars as the only god Kratos respects. Also danmachi seems to have nailed her character.
With Kratos I agree, with her Danmachi version not.
She is better described in Percy Jackson, the last god of olymp.
Danmachi Hestia simps Bell, the real Hestia though wouldn't be a tsundere but rather be a calm, kind and wise woman who would bless and lead him but not farther intervent.
Also, of all gods in Danmachi she would have far more influence than the other (greek) gods because she exist in EVERY home in the same time.
The other gods would become pretty nervous if she would do anything in this universe.
However what is indeed true is, that she would still be weaker than her brothers (Zeus, Hades and Poseidon) and her sisters (Demeter and Aphrodite). However, as the first and last born she would still hold more power than the younger gods like Ares, Athens, Hesphaitos and so on.
In short: in the Danmachi universe you should absolutely, never ever, mess with her. At least not with her mythology version.
One of my favorite goddesses. So much so, I actually named one of my cats in her honor.
She is the most matured Goddess in Olympians followed by Hades and Hecate and also Nyx and Gaia
Please, do more Arthurian Legends!!!!!!!
This is really cool, just a suggestion. Maybe you can do one about Philotes goddess of friendship? She seem really cool😊

But one thing we know. Hestia is also Vesta and is head over heels in love with Bell.
Excelent!!
Great video, but it was way too short!
That’s because sadly there aren’t that many myths that revolve around Hestia
@@moondivine2288 The only one I can think of, aside from the ones mentioned/alluded to, is the one where she’s assaulted by Priapus. But that’s probably for a good reason since it’s a very uncomfortable, triggering topic for a lot of people. But it does explain why her sacred animal is a donkey.
Wonder woman Lasso of truth
I always imagine her to be the strongest of them all. She is the goddess of not just fire but primordial fire no? And olympus is basically her house. She is by far the most worshiped as well I believe. She doesn't get involved in anything probably because she never cares enough or it simply wasn't server enough. She is the least problematic God of them all, puts all of them to massive shame.
It is a little bit more complicated.
She is both the weakest and strongest of all gods because she is also both the first and last born of the first gods.
That is because accord to the greek religion Zeus siblings were twice born.
The first time when Rhea birth them and the second time after they were rescued by Zeus.
Rhea was the first greek goddess but also the very first god who was born and at that time the most powerful.
However after she was eaten by her father Chronos, she was the god who was rescued and so became also the weakest.
So while she is far more powerful than the younger gods, she is weaker than her brothers and sisters.
Nevertheless you shouldn't underestimate her.
She is still one of the first gods and aside that she controls the hearth fire of the Olymp which is also basically the heart of it, as the hearth fire was at that time the representation of home itself.
So if the hearth fire is gone, then that's it.
The Olymp would be dead without it.
But this is not even the end, her domain are the HOMES of every family, which also includes towns and even nations.
So while she has no temple, all homes are part of her domain.
That way, she has even far more influence than any other greek god.
Oh and she is basically near omnipresent too because everywhere where there is a home, she exist too and protects you from dangers.
So in short: she is the weakest of the older gods in general, but surpass all of her brothers and sisters when it is in her domain.
Funnily the place where she guards the hearth fire of the Olymp, all gods are forbidden to fight and use their powers there, as it is a neutral area.
Finally a story for my favorite divinity

Dyonisis never took her place. What is your source for that?
They never said he took her place. They simply said he replaced her in the Olympian lineup in later versions of the mythology. For some reason, Dionysus and Hestia are never mentioned together in the list of Olympians.
Athena should learn how to make justice from her

Hestia is Bestia!
Imo, if Hestia was still exist to this day like gods in Neil Gaiman's American Gods, her domain would be electricity.
Well, everytime there are log cabins using firewood or campfires being made, together with cooking of food, especially meat in them, Hestia is being honored. I could imagine her being the owner of a bed and breakfast type of joint in the mountains or probably a mountain retreat or probably the Head of girl scouts of that world!
@@larryperlas7616 Yep. Goddess of hospitality and home. That's why I think of electricity, as technology now is using it, including induction cooker and electric warmer.
The sacred pyre is like power plant.
Come to think of it, Hestia use fire. Hephaestus also use fire for his work. Ares, despite being god of war, rarely associated with fire.
@@zitronentee I also imagine her as someone who would be live far away from other gods such as the mountain region, since she does not want drama, a quaint but lovely bed and breakfast place and the type of owner who always has a warm smile on her face and loves to bake.
