This scene was in my head the first time I visited Langley in 2008.

I was there in 2001 for an award ceremony. DDO took my sister and I to his office and gave each of us a challenge coin from Clandestine Service. Coolest experience ever.
Love this scene.
Its literally maybe 30 seconds long.... James Earle Jones has like 3 sentences, or so.
And he nails it.
Not because of his dialog. Its the dialog, and how he delivers it.
For being just a side character in this series, he stood out in every scene. Guy has a great presence on screen.

Note the red headed woman in the scene after the introductions, at her desk (2:01), looking at the monitor, doing her work. Pretty sure she reappears in the bathroom when Jack steps into the wrong one, and says that "one of us is in the wrong place". Real attention to continuity on the part of the director and production staff.
0:53 Pretty sure that's a picture of JFK on the back wall. How appropriate for a picture of JFK to be in the CIA, a trophy.

"...we would be better off, without him around here" a mild rebuke, i.e. we would be better off without a skilled and highly-motivated analyst? Really? "...or something along those lines" i.e. dismissive, and gives Marty an opportunity to backtrack, without explicitly contradicting him in from of a junior employee.
The music between 2:07 and 2:42 is absolutely taken from Aliens (1986). It's uncanny between 2:17-2:24. Horner struck gold and ran with it I suppose.
Horner was heavily influenced by Aram Khachaturian's Gayane's Adagio.

I'm still having trouble having James Earl Jones saying, "We'd be better off without him . . ." Equates to him going back to work.
Imagine Vader asking Han Solo that question. "Managed any SLEEP?"
Harrison Ford and James Earl Jones had such good chemistry in this movie. I wonder if they'd ever worked in any movies together before?

I always thought this was a weird introduction to Rose. I know she's also in Clear and Present Danger, but this introduction here makes it seem like we should have known her before Patriot Games, but she wasn't in The Hunt For Red October. Is she a character in the Jack Ryan books by Tom Clancy?
not by that name that i'm aware of.
The name may have been changed for whatever reason, but I guess the canon character closest to Rose's would be Mary Patricia Foley.
@@Beginstheman possibly, but Foley is supposed to be younger than Ryan. Rose seems to be more of an admin assistant than an analyst.
