    Video should be called Vanos installation and not timing chain.

    Very informative, thank you for taking the time to explain details that aren’t apparent in the documentation!

    Thank you very much.... Interesting watch and very useful. I have a question.. I'm being offered a non-running BMW 650 2012 with n63 engine. The timing chain failed with the car out of warranty. I'm trying to make an educated guess. Do you think the pistons/valves are bent/damaged? What are the chances? I have done several N43 and N13 and in all cases there was no severe damage. New chain, tensioner and guides and all was back to normal. I would appreciate and value your opinion or anyone else with some knowledge.

    I have a question, if the times between the intake and exhaust shafts do not match, is it enough to change the vanos screws? and if I change the bolts, do I have to remove the vanos? do I just unscrew the screws on the lock, replace, set nm and angle and that's it? thank you greetings

    I've got an S63 doing valve stem seals. Valve covers removed. Spark plugs out, injectors out, holes plugged. Began turning the engine (clockwise from the front) and it turned smooth until it reached a hard stop. Looks like it as almost full open on exhaust on cyl 1, almost full open intake cyl 3. Quite puzzling . . . as if valves were hitting or something jamming the chain. Engine was running before teardown. Before pulling more stuff off to get to chain, any thoughts?

    It's not an installation. The chain is already in. My question is for a complete chain installation, call it replacement, can you do it with the engine still in the car? I feel not...

    What makes this priced at $700+ and 10 times more than what I can find on Amazon? If it is precision, I can see the crank locking tool and the 2 cam locking tools MIGHT have extra play that this AGA might not. I checked my $70 amazon pieces and did not see any play. Please explain to me why I should spend 10 times more. Please don't tell me just because it is better made.

      Like in don’t go full rotation backwards. After the cams are locked you can move the crank a couple mm backwards.

      How many degrees did he do counterclockwise ? That's just enough to get the tensioner pressed and not to turn 720 degrees.

    This video should be titled "Removing and installing camshaft phaser adjusters", Timing chain installation is a bit more complicated and daunting task on the N63 engine which has 2 timing chains for bank 1 and bank 2.

  • @pngthebosspng9126

    Video has nothing to do with replacement of timing chains ? Good for setting cam timing tho PS that’s not a crankshaft stop tool it’s a timing tool if you use it to hold crank to do anything else you will damage the timing cover and the tool cliff note from a certified factory trained BMW HEAVY LINE TECH

  • @Raggedolflag

  • @derekkchung
    @derekkchung Před 8 měsíci

    It is not a chain installation video. No chain was replaced nor installed. This is just a timing job. To replace/install the chains, u need to remove the timing cover. To remove timing cover, u need to remove cylinder heads (or risk oil leaking at head gaskets when done) AND upper oil pan (or risking oil leaking later). Stupid N63 design and they make the timing chain guides BRITTLE after 100K or so, making this engine cost prohibited to repair.

  • @matreyia
