  • Exceptional original Riviera. I just don't understand why none of the other people that looked at this car didn't buy it. As soon as I saw it, I had no doubt that I was taking it home. Finding cars this age and condition just doesn't happen often these days. Enjoy the short video. NO IT IS NOT FOR SALE

I would say 1970 is the last year for this body style. Others did not buy it because it does not have A/C.

1970 was the last year of this body style. 1971 brought us the famous boat tail Riv.

Yes you're correct. But they disguise that 1970 just enough so you have to look at it for a while to figure out what it was they changed.

Whenever someone expresses wonder that a car was slow to sell - this is just the marketplace in action. Most buyers are not stuck on a specific car, they are looking at a lot of different cars and deciding which offers the best value for the money. You may not agree, but most buyers want the bucket seat interior and a/c. Also, the aftermarket 8 track and speakers in the door panels are a deduction in value for many buyers. My guess is this car was higher in asking price based on no rust, lower mikes, original paint - and other prospective buyers thought other cars were a better value

Sorry Rod, junk aftermarket 8 track. It prolly wasn't offered with indash 8 track until 1974ish, but underdash, hanging way down! Too bad the dash was prolly cut up for the radio, and the rear shelf and door panels. Similar damage to my '66 Toronado

Actually the 1970 Riviera is the last model year of this body style...but without hideaway headlights and with fender skirts. This example is in Verde Green and this model year was the best selling with 52,872 units. Perhaps this example was slow selling because the color is unusual and it is low-spec without the desired options. Also, the earlier 1966 and 1967 models are more collectible. The 1963 - 1965 Rivieras are off the chart collectible but the Thunderbird of those years is still my favorite.

1970 Riviera is a different car. They put rear skirts on it and added the long wide trim on each side. I thinking the Riv crowd will agree, 1970 is a one-year only design. True, no bucket seats or A/C is not what is expected, but the rest of the car says it all.. Thanks for watching!

@@rodneyracer It is true that it is a heavy restyle but the 1971 Riviera actually had the new design with a different wheelbase and cowl. The 1968 and 1969 were heavily restyled with different front and rear ends than the 1966 and 1967 models.

I get this comment often. BUT the seller told me he had several people call, some made lowball offers, not many came to look at it. This is also what I find happening to MANY of the cars I purchase. I am a buyer for collectors, I go see these for the most part far after they have been advertised. It takes a LONG time to close a purchase when money has to come from far away and MANY details about condition have to be verified. I was SHOCKED that this car was not sold before I was able to secure it!

@@rodneyracer I understand, and I hope what sounds like negativity can be seen as simply lament for a time now gone when America produced the most fantastic stuff. Our own government and it’s ridiculous regulations made it increasingly difficult to continue that excellence and still turn a profit. And I also have seen that there is less and less appreciation when it comes to buyers here fighting a little harder to secure something like this... It just sucks that European elites know what they want and Americans can’t compete... These cars were affordable and available to middle class Americans when there was such a thing as a middle class. I was born in ‘69 so I am fortunate enough that I got to see the last of the good stuff before it slowly disappeared and got replaced by products that were less and less inspiring. I’m not bitter, I have a few relics that I take good care of and drive daily. It’s just a shame though... It isn’t only nostalgia, I really do think it was a better time then. I appreciate your reply and thanks for the video... those Rivieras were pretty nice cars.
