- Oh this is a fun truck!
Well it used to be fun until it started running really poorly....misfiring, stalling out.
Owner says it had a P0336-CKP Signal Performance.
He installed a new OEM CKP sensor, but the problem is still there!
Let's see why this Angry GMC is having a bad day, and if we can get it back to full health in the parking lot :)

That thing isn't angry, that's a super spicy GMC.
@Matthew Poole, I like spicy!😆I'm glad it was an easy fix too, it could've quickly become really messy, especially given it started to snow a bit. I liked the end, seeing the owner happy with the fix, opening up the throttle a bit.
One thing you know for sure: If the customer has a big grin on their face you know you did something right.
I'm becoming a fan of your NPR repairs, nice diagnosis (again).
Wow! So much depends on such a small detail! That would be so easy to miss!
Ivan, thanks for including the PICO waveforms. I don't know how many times you said you doubted it was a gap issue, but several. In the end it was a gap issue which leads us to concluded you must keep an open mind, be very methodical in your approach, and be prepared for the unexpected. And....you looked like you were having a great time on the test drive. Thanks for Sharing!
Oh that shortbox stepside in the background ❤
I’m glad mine has a 4.3 V6 as the crk sensor lives out front on the timing cover, easy to get at
Nice to hear the Chevy Thunder....oops not Eric O...love the picture of the Yellow C6 have one sitting in the garage, 448HP 6.2 LS3. Love the Diagnosis could not have seen the clue without the scope and a visual on the sensor, nice.
That's one smart owner. He knew the exact person to call about his problem.
It's awesome that the Saudi students are enjoying those trucks!
I remember that hole in the crankcase video!
They redlined it...
ANOTHER great diagnosis! Good job Ivan!
Smiling customer, no parts required. Well done,Ivan
Ivan, thanks for the video! I really enjoy your work!
Strange reluctor wheel set up!
I recently retired from truck driving but I used to work on cars a lot before sensors,so in my retirement I’ve decided to educate myself about such things and you’re the best to watch it’s not for everybody but it’s just what I need because most people are frightened to death of cars these day’s,I’m in the uk and if it’s any consolation it’s snowing here as well😂P.S I watched one the other day and your wife was in it you’re a lucky man she’s beautiful
as you are recently retired maybe this man can help you learning about nowadays electronics in cars; "realfixesrealfast"
You can see the happiness on the face of owner of the truck.he got his holidays present by ivan his truck fixed and no extra cost.stay safe ivan its too cold and happy holidays.enjoy some quality time with family and friends.cheers
Watching you work under the truck with snow on the ground made me turn my heat up. Great job.
Good diagnostics, good times! Thanks Ivan!
Great diagnostic, Ivan! Second time I've seen you fight a sensor gap with NPR results. That truck is a mean beast :-)
Starting this video I heard in m y head, "please please please solve this one in this video without going to part 2" . Thank you for that small favor ;-) (and yeah, these make you think, and they are fun)
Wow. Your ability to process "long" and "short" pulses is better than some of my violin students 🤣
Did they diag the Camry V6 misfire yet Greg? My money is on ignition...like a bad spark plug wire on the 2000 Sienna ;)
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics not yet. The shop is booked up. Good thing I have two other hoopties 😜 I'm hoping it's an ignition coil or wire issue, and not low compression on a cylinder. It's been shaking a little for a long time, but maybe running up a mountain at 4k rpm did something 😬
@@GregoryGlessnerViolin Nah italian tune up only makes those run better :) Should be a 10-minute diag..."booked up" is a poor excuse lol!
Fantastic fix. Learned a lot on this one. Merry Christmas.
Great diag and repair Ivan.
As always, Ivan, well done!
Great bonus footage and test drive😀
The crank sensor magnetic surface position to the teeth is very precise, I guess it should be parallel to the teeths, and the bracket play a big role in it, if the bracket somehow deformed, it will definitely affect the performance of the whole sensor, and as consequence bad engine performance.
Another fine "NPR" diagnosis and repair. Keep them coming.
Nice fix ivan.
No parts required .
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
From ENGLAND.
Nice job Ivan!
You are awesome, thank you
Excellent job Ivan.
Seems like this same issue popped up on south main auto as well. Power of a visual and paying attention. Could really go down a rabbit hole on this if you don't keep a level head. Good one. Thanks for the ride along.
Excellent job.
Job well done @Pine Hollow!
Kewl repair. You are a pro.
I have the same energizer headlamp. Mine is over 15 yo still works great!
Another genius diagnostic.
Ivan saves the day again!
Thanks
Let's see an electric truck sound like that! Not!
Nice work Ivan.
Well done Ivan. I had a Range Rover Evoque with a cam crank code and the crank sensor had a similar issue in detecting the teeth at higher rpm. Distance matters, especially with cheaper oem parts that aren’t as sensitive to begin with. All hail King Ivan, Lord of the NPR repair.
Air gap is crucial! Especially at high rpm!
Nice truck, belongs way out in the country. Away from folks who appreciate quiet. But another great diagnosis.
For whatever its worth, I worked for the Saudi Army in the Kingdom as a mechanic/trainer from 1992-1995. They pronounced "G-M-C" as " jimss". Find enclosed two cents.
I love to watch Ivan videos than other video out there I’m not saying that they are not good but because there’s no shortcuts it’s like your watching a good movie… it’s amazing
Great video! It sure does sound bad-ass!!
Nice fix! But the car, jeez, this must be one of the states where you're not required to have a muffler, I'm glad this is not allowed where I live.
Back in my tech days late 70's. I worked in a small college town.
All the Saudi's loved the trans am smoky and the bandit. Trucks now!?
Many people may have missed it, but I sure didn't. This was another excellent job repairing this truck, but I'm happier to see that you're a well-informed citizen. We will live to fight and win another day.
Hard to believe someone as smart as Ivan can be as dumb as you at the same time.
Am I the only one who does the intro like Erik O. It’s a 2000 CHEVROLETTT. It’s got the big 5-3. It’s got the heads. It’s got the cam. It’s got the exhaust. But it’s got a little hitch in it’s gitty up.
Well done ivan 😀
It's such a crude sensor fit for a critical measurement.
So the amplitude of the pulses may not have been high enough to register on the input of the computer all the time.
They should of put two bolts on a ring to apply pressure to both sides of the sensor.
Tight ass manufacturers lol.
The owner looked so happy 😀
Yay! What a fun truck!! Another NPR Ivan!!
Nice job, truck sounds good to
Buick 3800's of most era's use two tone rings on the back of the harmonic balancer and two Crank positions sensors (it is one physical unit, two hall effect sensors). One tone wheel is evenly spaced, same size teeth while the other is long and short to indicate cylinder TDC. Even the GM sensors for these are now junk so a better bet is anything with lifetime warranty and being skilled at swapping them.
Sounds dope
You are the man❤
Nice diag. That truck also sounded amazing.
I love Alabama don't see much of those problems great job
could be magnetic inductance from a magnetized relutctor wheel... stick a neodymium magnet on a stick into the crankshaft position sensor hole and turn over the motor with the starter several revolutions...
This isn't Bernie Thomson channel 😂😂
That man is a true genius! 🤓
Good video. I would have suggested showing waveform post clean up.
well, Ivan is now more familiar with LS engines and the goofy two piece riveted together and interference press fit onto crank with no key/dowel pins! :)
not that you will, but to install/remove them you heat the snot out of them and work carefully, precisely marking alignment is critical before removing them or make/buy a special alignment jig.
Did you ever verify if that sensor that was in it was OEM??? So you never tried the old part man took out for comparison sake??? Amazing Ivan. What a clever diagnosis and results
The truck runs correctly so it's no need to prove anything that Ivan didn't get involved with.
The owner claimed AC delco, but it would have been worth a look
I've seen this a couple times. Happens on dodge magnums too. Rust builds up right by the o ring and just that little bit will cause problems. And I'm not sure Ivan, people on the internet tell me all the time that I don't need a scope. "Just use a dvom and watch for voltage changes" makes me wanna beat someone lol
Apparently they don't realize 24x wheel at only 2000 rpm = 800 registers a second even if a dvom could read that fast they couldn't...
exselentes master god amigo
That 80psi oil pressure daaaaamn. I wish my ls1 had that kind of pressure
The sensor is sensing the complementary target. It senses the shift of the magnetic field from oneside of the target to the other. This design allows for less sensitivity to the airgap. Also allows zero speed detection of target with high tooth count. Same type of sensor for the cam shaft but its target is machined. Not a sandwich stamped target like the crank shaft target.
But it is VERY sensitive to air gap apparently!
Once again "no parts required"! 👍Now if I could get some of your video magic to rub off! 😆
he seems like a good dude!
good solution, it was not expected, if you have 12 p codes, where do you start, it runs fine for a few minutes cold
Nice video Ivan!!!
Fixed the rumbler V8 that is 22 years old. food work.
Wow, that is one angry GMC lol. Never heard of 5.3 getting that mad lol. I've owned many 5.3s and I'm really surprised by that air gap with the ckp sensor! It's not usually common issue. Unless it has chain stretch which is common thing! But go glad you got it sorted! Awesome video!!! Many thumbs up 👍 👌 👏
But you mentioned At the end it's 6.0? 😄 what gives lol
Nice going
Daaammmnnn! That thing gotta a cam in it! Lol.
The ability of the standard ecu to have the scope to deal with that cam and banging exhaust is quite impressive really.
I would imagine it was reflashed.
GREAT VIDEO
haha the bonus footage in car with the owner. he was loving it
Live for the CHOP CHOP
The ending was fun!
Nice job Ivan. That truck is pulling booty there at the end. I bet he was damn 😊 happy!
Saudi student community 😂 Ivan is making bucks out of MBS
Thank goodness it wasn't an improperly routed ground strap and magnetized crankshaft 😉.
Lol smart kid not letting Ivan drive atleast he knows that Ivan would have left a little bit of tire on the road 😂😂😂
I'm pretty sure they go through tires faster than brakes 😂
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics lol of course that's the fun way to drive
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics If they drive like at home.
Cool
I have a 2000 Silverado 6 cyl that sounded the same last year. I was reyving it right after I got it to start and my muffler blew up. MAN! Leaves were actually falling out of the trees! I got out and the two drain plugs in the bed had cleared and were draining water that had collected in the bed. I was seeing people peeking out of their curtains to see if maybe they should get under a sturdy table. It was hilarious! By the way, mine was the distributor. You should have seen the muffler.
LOL that's amazing xD
I've actually heard a motor sound like that before ... mind you, it was a 16cyl locomotive engine, and it was 34f so only about half the cylinders were firing when we finally got it to keep running ...
Sounded like you were reading out rally pace notes all those shorts and longs 😂
That truck sounds nice though :)
wow pretty Different reluctor wheel notches..i'm learning every time something about car engine ins and outs. 6L beast, not sure i could afford the juice to run it at current prices in OZ..LOL
Crazy, crazy reluctor wheel setup. Where did the second one come from ? Fast diagnosis on what could have been a very tricky problem. Another customer who'll have a happy Xmas on "route 66".
I wonder if the old sensor was rust jacked out of place tossing the code. Replacing the sensor didn't work because of failure to clean up the hole before installation. Huh. May never know.
here's is someone watching you from Saudi lol
That rust sure causes a lot of problems! The owner's REAL HAPPY now! How long did the truck sit before you got to it? Hopefully the gas tank was full so no moisture collected in the tank. This diagnose reminded me of that GM pick up with OBD1 when you swapped PROM's in the PCM. With all the mods done to it, it's a wonder it runs. Maybe a good dyno tech could help it run better for optimum performance.
Good fix Ivan!
I have 369k miles on that GM best vehicle s I got 400k out of 5.3 GM one transmission
Cam loping with rich exhaust throw a O2 fuel trim code?
Aftermarket parts often POS.
CAm and Crank sensors compare to check timing chain stretch or loose cam gear reluctor.
I found metal chips on sensor magnets also cause havoc.
People need to watch that rust buildup on brake caliper slides. Chipping away and removing the built up rust can allow successful reuse of calipers. Make sure your pads can travel freely
Do you recommend to clean the intake manifold air sensor
Rust jacking is not our friend!!! Thanks!
That was a good one
Thumbs up for you Ivan, nice work! BUT thumbs down for that truck.. let us know when the engine blows..
Hey it's way more fun than a Prius! ;)
The GEN III have 2 reluctor plates.
Oh I've seen those that's one of GM's new three-cylinder models
The other 5 cyls wake up when you floor it xD
