      Everybody can have such a life. Only, you have to build it by yourself. I say always, my boats designed for that. If you can repair a chair you can build this boat

    Would be great to know where this KD 860 was built. Cost, hours to build, previous experience of the builder. What a great boat would like to see one in the flesh. Love the design.

      Thanks for the compliment. The boats are sailing in Aukland, Turkey, Germany, India, Thailand and so one. The costs depend on the land where you have to obtain material, construction time varies greatly. You can order this study plan which answers a lot of questions (costs for the 29 pages study plan US $ 15.-ikarus342000.com/KD860page.htm

    Just one question.
    Could you cross an Ocean in a KD 860? I know it's seaworthy; but, would a useful load of 1,500 kilos get you across the Atlantic from the Azores for example?
    Bernd, is a KD860 a Jester Challenge candidate?

    • @ikarus342000
      @ikarus342000  Před 3 lety +1

      A very interesting question. Good, let's look at the distances. Plymouth to the Azores. The direct distance is 1371 NM. The prevailing wind in the time of the Jester challenge is SW to W. So it is the whole time to windward. This adds about 2/3 of the distance, result 2053 NM. Make the boat speed 7 knots (very conservative, the boat is doing easily 12 knots). An etmal at this speed would be 168 NM. You would need a bit more as12 days. Why you would load the boat for such a challenge with 1500 kg ? I have no idea. For example water. 5 l per day is more than sufficient. This makes 60 l or 60kg. Petrol for the outboard engine for port maneuvers 20 l x 0.77 kg = 15,4 kg. Food, whatever you want make it 30 kg. Personal gear 30 kg… Together also around 150 kg. You have a useful load capacity of 1300 kg
      So, the KD 860 could be a Jester Challenge candidate. Have fun Bernd

      No way, the boat would be too unstable. General, nobody should tamper with the beam of a catamaran

      I do not know what you specifically mean. I (k-designs) sell the plans set for U.S $ 390,- and the study plans for $ 15,- Dickworks sell the plans also. What a custom-built KD 860 will cost depends on what you want.
