Loved Edinburgh! The Architecture is stunningly gothic and the weather just added to it! Thanks for taking us with you. The train journey looked very comfortable. I wouldn't say the cost of the meal was too steep, it was a high end presentation the way it was served, and looked amazing, glad you enjoyed it. But do agree the train fare is absurdly expensive to travel within UK. You're getting expert at these adventures now! 😅 Can I suggest Aberystwyth soon? It's a University town by the beautiful sea. Known for it's Fish & Chips and ofcourse Welsh cakes and Lava Bread. That would be fun! 😊

Re train fares. Sadly XC is regularly criticised for high fares and lack of capacity. There *can* be low train fares but it all depends on the route and the operator. I mean Lumo has great fares for London-Edinburgh (a much greater distance than Leeds-Edinburgh) as it competes directly with incumbent LNER.

Historically, when hunters made their kill, they would use up the offal, which went off first, using the cleaned animal’s stomach as a cooking bag not used today . haggis is Minced heart, liver and lungs are bulked out with oatmeal, onions, suet, seasoning and spices before cooking. Nowadays natural casings are still used not always , but synthetic ones are becoming more common (there is no effect on the flavour

It is interesting how much it can cost to travel by train on the day. It can work out a lot cheaper to fly by plain or get the train ticket in advance a few days before travel. Coach is better value. I have enjoyed your short trips and have encountered the same problems you have had with delays and knowing the way to get to places. Weatherspoons does a good Haggis meal in January across the country for Burns Night they do for a few weeks.

The reason the trip abroad is cheaper than the trip to within the UK is the Plane ticket is probably subsided by the government of the country you are traveling to. If you want a UK equivalent get the train to Blackpool. The Blackpool council subsidises the cost of trains there making it one of the cheapest places to get a train to.
The idea being get people there as cheaply as possible and you'll reap the rewards by having the tourists spend money once they get there.

Travel pricing comment: At least the train took you into the city. I am assuming now having travelled to Scotland before you would have to factor in either car gas and parking or taxi/uber fare both from home to airport and airport to city where the restaurant is located. Probably comes to the same pricing, I’d think??

You need to book in advance, I’ve just looked and you can do a day return to Edinburgh to Leeds for £106, still expensive, but not what you paid, and £24 for a meal on Cockburn Street, right in the heart of Edinburgh isn’t expensive at all….

Hello and thanks for another great video. As for comparing rail fares with air fares I must say that both modes have different pricing models. Air (Ryanair for example) will have low fares provided you book well ahead and are savvy enough to avoid the ancillary fees ! Rail doesn't have such a sophisticated pricing model and although the gov't (which is responsible for the fares - although few people realise this fact) wants to change things, nothing will happen for some time owing to the election. Even then if there's a change of gov't, rail is not the most urgent thing to be changed ... transport in the UK is well down the list of priorities of any gov't.
Your train trip to Edinburgh would have cost less had you changed at York and taken LNER. Check Trainline, which offers split fares, and based on early morning Leeds-Edinburgh for Tuesday May 28 with a mid-afternoon return would cost around £100.
Yes that is not cheap but then look at what Ryanair charges for Leeds-Dublin return on the same day (May 28). Right now I checked its website and the Ryanair basic price (not including the extras) is £365 !

Plane vs train, trains & infrastructure have been under invested for decades the concentration of most privatised train companies is to pay dividends to the shareholders whilst taking any subsides from the tax payer most train services i have used are well overpriced and the service is poor so stopped using them.

Except in Scotland the trains have been deprivatised (is that a word?) and have been back under government control since 2022. Only two days ago a bill passed in the Scottish Parliament to get rid of peak rail fares. Tickets will soon be costing the same no matter what time of day you travel.
