Again, great and exhaustive drink through. To your palates, they all seemed to focus on spice above sweetness except the Ridgemont. Just a thought but Barton’s Master Distiller, Ken Pierce retired in 2016. The RR bottle would have been his work. Possibly the newer bottles represent a shift in taste profile by his successors. And of course the RR was a barrel pick, so certainly someone might have chosen a barrel that was an outlier. Too bad there was noRR Small Batch. Great show again.

You might be right on the money there. I used to get Ridge. Res. all the time, but now anything from Barton just seems too spicy; that cinnamon and rye spice is just too much. I have two different store picks of the full proof, and while they're different and one is clearly better than the other, they are both very spice forward.

the Viski brand double walled glasses that have freeze gel in them are the only glass glasses I have seen with freeze gel in them. They are small rocks glasses that you can still nose because they are only about 6 oz. glasses. Not cheap $20-ish but they are nice for the times you want something chilled and not get watered down by ice and they still fit an ice sphere in them nicely if you want. My favorite rocks glass when I use one very rarely and usually with a cheaper rum like R.L. Seale's 10 year outside with a cigar.

I just got into bourbon this year and 1792 has quickly become one of my favorite lineups. Had never seen one in my state and stumbled upon one while traveling out of state so I went ahead and paid $85 for a non-pick full proof. Love the bottle but instantly regretted making the FOMO purchase. Since then I have been lucky enough to snag a store pick from Total Wine for $49.99. Around the same time I also landed a Stagg 23a for $51.99. We all know Stagg can have pretty silly secondary prices and for the price.... I'd just get more 1792 Full Proof or Jack Daniels SBBP's.
These videos constantly highlight the same thing I've found during my short time in the bourbon scene... hype bottles are almost never worth paying secondary. There is an incredible amount of great whiskey out there. Also... starting this hobby in the early months of the year sucks - nothing is available and that tricks you into paying upcharges. Since July I've had so much more luck finding good bottles.

You guys should redo this drink through...include the High Rye, Port Finish, and what would be really interesting is to also include the TW branded Wolcott's (regular, BiB, and Rickhouse), AND the Costco Kirkland lineup all by 1792. I asked at TW what the difference was between the regular 1792 Small Batch and the Wolcott regular bottle and was told that all of the Wolcott's have to be at least 20% rye, so all "high ryes". I know this is two years old, but....
