"You are a chicken McNugget"😅😅😅😅
Drinkthrough is such a great concept! Really happy I was able to find this channel.
Love the Drinkthrough series concept. Great video, guys
Thanks!
What excellent prices you guys get. Where I’m at in the US it’s $40 for Double black, $60 Green, and $200 Blue. That’s why I think many bash Johnny Walker.
The only place I would buy Johnnie range would be at costco ($10-20 dollar off MSRP sometimes). Otherwise, I don't see much value.
Same I see roughly the same prices here in Central California $200 for Blue and about the same for others. The only place I can get a deal is at my local Costco or special sale at BevMo. I have spotted Johnnie Gold in the past around 50 bucks at times before I knew that I liked it. :) Now I will certainly pick up a bottle if I see Gold at or under 50 bucks.
Great review guys. I'm digging the drinkthroughs. Keep 'em coming!
I’m so glad I found you guys here... I I was worried about you all.. where is the 4th person?
Just started the video and never saw a drinkthrough before. We must praise these three men. About to drink all seven bottles (fully) in front of our eyes. I salute you!
Recently I hold a blind with black gold platinum XR and blue. Very interesting event and how your reviews compare with my personal experience. Well done Gentlemen. Keep up the good work!
Green Label is so good! The first bottle of JW I bought (prior to them taking it away for a time) and savored every drop. Somehow I have an unopened bottle of Double Black from 5-6 years ago that just keeps getting pushed back on my shelf... I'm inspired to finally open it. Might have to get another bottle of Green...but I didn't even know there was an 18yr now. I wonder if I'll ever get through the handle of Red leftover from our wedding haha
Hope you guys survived after all day. My favorite is the 18. Cheers.
You’ve convinced me to try several. Great drinkthrough!
Awesome review! I wish you guys had the Jane Walker in there, I've been curious about it.
Thanks for getting me through the workday 🙏🏻
Keep up the amazing work, guys! Just subscribed and I'm really enjoying the content!
Cheers! Thank you!
I really likes these guys. Like a perfectly balanced mix of guides shepherding us through the valleys of malt and barley.
Can you please do a Buffalo Trace lineup drink through? Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, EH Taylor, maybe benchmark/ancient age
Don’t forget wild turkey
Great stuff as always guys 🙌🏻🥃
Cheers!
Green is my go-to. $43 at Costco, you can't beat that value!
Good to know. I like Green.
I would buy a case for that price, it is $90 here in Ontario Canada.
Love the drinkthroughs
I’ve recently just tried Old Forester ,90 Proof Total Wine Single Barrel, and damn it’s delicious. Can’t wait to explore more. Great video. 🥃
First im really late to your video.. sorry.. but I'm a new subscriber and I have to say I appreciate you guys for taking your time to review and explain each one. Love the chemistry with you guys. I never tasted whiskey and I tried blue label at a party.... ummmmmmm.... wow... super smooth and
Tasted really good. Man that was awesome.
I always been a vodka drinker but now I wanna get into whiskey.
Welcome aboard!
Love that you guys are back, any plans on ever having bill in for a guest appearance?
I enjoy these folks so much!
Jules is the best. But he should pre-game a few drinks before you start. That should ramp things up a bit.... Oh, and I bet Dillon only buys $300 jeans.
Scots actually praise blended whisky over single malts in Scotland. They worship the art of blending. I once heard somebody say that a single distiller can produce a single malt whisky that tastes like dog piss, but a master blender can take that dog piss and make a beautiful whisky out of it. American "whisky snobs" kind of ran blended scotch into the ground over the years with the whole single malts are superior thing, its just simply not true, there are great single malts and great blends, as well as bad single malts and bad blends. A little more insight into that, the number one best selling brand of whisky in Scotland is Famouse Grouse, which is a bottom shelf blend. Blends are not inferior, and Johnnie Walker is definitive proof of that in my opinion, all marketing tactics aside. They produce some insanely good juice.
Johnnie Walker is a great marketer, that flavour wise plays it safe & aims at the masses (people that want “smooth”).
Ralfy is the Yoda of whisky.
Double black is my go to for budget scotch. I really enjoyed the review. More drinkthroughs please!
Thanks! We've got more planned, stay tuned!
Me too. I don't like the traditional flavour of JW, and the smokyness masks it.
I coincidently paused @ time 31:58 those smiles are Fantastic!
Love the Green Label, it's budget enough, and it got a well-rounded flavor
I love the long episode. Hope you guys do more of these with different lineups. Plenty of content with Buffalo Trace alone.
Agreed. I'll be watching and drinking along tonight to get through midweek. Cheers, brother.
Thanks! We definitely have more drinkthroughs planned. They are a lot of fun to film.
Best whisky channel on CZcams!
Do this again, but with Jane Walker included!
You sexist bastards!
Would like to see more of these core drinkthroughs, like Ardbeg, Springbank, Glenmorrangie... etc
Would be intresting to see a Compass Box drinkthrouhh. Given Compass Box’s use of grains and mix of blended whisky and blended malts in its line-up.. is Compass Box the contemporary Johnnie Walker?
Any chance you guys will be revisiting this line up (or referencing it) when you try the Johnny High Rye?
I would love to see an update to include the High Rye offering.
Please do a blind JW! I know you did for the Blue Label line but please do one with Gold, Green, 18 and Blue. Thank you.
I have the recently released Johnnie Walker Collection 4x200ml bottles (Black Label, Gold Label Reserve, 18 and Blue Label). I have gone through tasting twice and tasting with my friend. Is it weird that I prefer the Gold Label Reserve over the 18 and even the Blue Label? Don't get me wrong the Blue Label has a longer finish with that nice warming hug going down. I find the Gold Label Reserve to be a bit more balanced with a quicker finish but for 1/4 of the price of Blue Label the Gold Reserve is really a fantastic value in Scotch.
How do you guys compare these to Dewar's?!??
So on an international flight only 2 whiskies available Let me guess the other one. Johnnie Walker black and Jack Daniels. I mean it could be Jim beam white or Jameson but chances are that it was JD.
You need to review JW Island Green! Pleaseee
Love these Drinkthroughs! I had to try that 18 year and it is awesome 👌
Ummm I could be wrong but wasn't there a limited edition name, "Jane Walker"
I would love to see you guys do a tequila drinkthrough (TM) especially a Fortaleza or G4 lineup. Glad you are back and making great content!
Thanks for the recommendation!
Have you guys tried the duty free exclusive Island Green? It drops the 15 age statement but is the same 43 abv and adds much more peat than any other JW. Along with the regular green they are my favorite of the line. Can be had for around $70 for 1 liter.
That island green sounds delicious
I know this is 2 years old, but prices are higher by more than 50%, the double black is 60 bucks in 2023
Found the Blue for £112 in UK. At that price it’s definitely worth it for the special occasion.
Yeah, Dillon knows nothing about cars.... that being said... the JW Red, is the worst I have tried.. the nose is a 1972 fully blown 454 Nova with Mickey Thompsons that just did a burn out and you are licking the asphalt... then when you taste it... its you are back on the asphalt but its while the burn out is being done.
and love the Drinkthrough TM. great thought on this......
Great drink through and now I miss the cringy gong sound effect ..I am never satisfied!
I just picked up a bottle of the 18 for $84.99 at a liquor store
You guys should quick blind Gold, Black, Red and Green
The pre 2012 Green 15 is the best of the line if you can find it
I have all those except the RED, and I’m drinking them with you!
Cheers!
Is it tasting like every flavor of band-aid ?
I want to drink with Jules. He seems like the perfect drinking buddy. Chill but can reach out with some wit out of nowhere.
JW Green is my pick, if offered blue & Green as a dram, I would pick Green
I'm not a fan of peat so Double Black was the only one that I didn't like. Gold is probably my favorite due to its sweet flavor but 18 is more of a traditional scotch. 18 is my number two followed by Green. Blue would be next since it's too smoky or peaty and a little pricy. I prefer Black over Red but both are fine. I didn't buy Red for the longest time since I heard so many people complain about it.
I like JW Green very much but is is harder to find and a bit pricey. JW Black is still the most popular scotch in the world with twice the sales of second place. I don't think that's just marketing. They found something people like at a price they are willing to pay.
My favorites are in this order,
18, Green, Blue, Double black, Black, Gold, Red. The best JW I've tried is the XR 21, JW core line is an excellent introduction to scotch.
21 XR is amazing but can’t be found anymore!
This review got a lot more fun after the "Fanboy" comment. Thanks for the laugh.
need a drink through of buchanan's line please
The only whiskey I gave a shit about was anything Japanese, but recently after watching Blade Runner again I decided on trying this whiskey. So far I've only tried the Red and Black labels.
Got a bottle of the gold centenary and platinum 18 for my old man, he’ll never open them lol
Gotta go with Green Label
Jules with the My Cousin Vinny reference
Please more JW videos!!
Brought it back for me on the gold reserve
If you like green but you're on a budget you can go with Monkey Shoulder. If you're on a really tight budget, Teacher's is your go to.
My favorite is JW Platinum or 18Y... then JW Gold, JW Black, JW Blue, JW Green, JW Double Black, and JW Red but I do not say no to a JW Red on the rocks.
missing out swing and xr 21 😭
18 IS ACE GUYS!!!
Black Label is $42 in NC, $30 in IL, $40 in NH (June 2022). WTH North Carolina?
Binny's in IL sells the 18 for $80 now. It's $90 in NC and NH.
18 all day
Do a blind taste with Walker. I want to see if you pick JWB as the winner.
for me reb and black are near unbreakable neat
I don’t mess with any blended scotch. For Joe Schmos with tight pockets. Go single malt or go home. JW Red & Black are absolutely disgusting. I found myself in a blue-collar bar thanks to a “friend” & asked what they had in the way of scotch & these 2 JWs are what they offered. Tried Red first & nearly heaved. Tried Black next - same response. Left both 🥃🥃 sitting on the table & left to go find a higher caliber bar.
Remember Gold Label vs King George :D
Bought a gold. Surprisingly hard to find. I guess the people are listening to the CP3.
Just to clarify, JW Blue Label was introduced in 1992.
You left out Jane Walker !!
Blue for almost $200 at Costco . If green around $50 then more worth
3 years later and still no black face has surfaced. however I'm still waiting for the dvd extra features.
Buffalo trace lineup next
The 18, then, straight to King George V..........👍🏻😎.
Where's Swing?
Everyone forgets Swing.
I would rather drink red than double black anyday
Zaw2on 5ara kif b 7ebo gold label. W b 2olo blended more consistent
Where are you getting Blue Label at 160? That shit is 220 unless you're in duty-free.
Howz about $325 here in Onterrible Canada, needless to say a pass.
Dec of 2022 and the Blue Label is $215 in VA! Definitely NOT worth it! For that price I can get all of the following and be much happier - Bunna 12, Arran 10 and Springbank 10!
Without blind tasting it's not really representative
Why does Johnny Walker get bashed? Most are bottled at literally the lowest ABV possible. Meaning it’s diluted to the absolute maximum. They use artificial color and chill filter heavily. 90% of the lineup includes much cheaper grain whiskey. They market heavily. There prices are expensive for blends. All these point to a multinational trying to maximize profits. I do thing Green Label is very good but I understand why many bash the lineup.
Well...one could also say:
1. Almost every single Scotch uses Euro-approved coloring. You won't know- they are not forced to mention it if they do. (Unless sold in Germany.)
2. 80 proof is the max percentage allowed in many different countries around the world. This is also true in many states, counties, arrondisements, cities, towns etc. One must meet regulations to be sold, afterall. (Why do you think their pinnacle product, "Blue", is at 80 proof? It must be able to be sold everywhere in the world which allows spirits.)
3. Both coloring and chill-filtering add consistency to the product. That, in itself, is not a bad thing. Repeatable results are key to larger success (See Budweiser and McDonald's).
4. It is quite expensive to hold the WORLD'S LARGEST RESERVE (10 million+!) BARRELS of all the different Scotches being made today and in the last few decades.
5. It is also expensive to maintain Master Blenders worth their salt in this day and age. Blending Scotch is like perfumerie- it takes ages to learn the craft, and then you still may suck at it.
This is just another way to look at it. I think the main reason people thumb their collective noses at JW today is simply because of their past success. Craft product is the new trend. Not cool to like the big guys right now. Ebb and flow.
@@mrfuriouser 1. First off many distilleries do notcontain artificial color. Arran, Deanston, Bunnahabhain, Bruchalladich, Macallan, Ardbeg, etc. And all Bourbon has no color. I respect these distilleries for being honest.
2. Tell me what markets only allow maximum 40% ABV? That’s nuts. All the big markets like USA, Canada, EU, China, Japan all don’t have that restriction. In fact in most countries if you go BELOW 40% you can’t even call your liquid Scotch anymore. So why is JW Blue 40%? To maximize profits and make it as ‘smooth’ as possible.
3. Consistency? LOL. Who cares. And your example about McDonalds is perfect. Sure McDonalds is perfectly consistent but I’d rather get a burger from an awesome BBQ place that has burgers that are less consistent (not factory shaped burgers) but taste much better. Artificial color is added to Scotch to make it look more ‘rich’ and chill filtering so it doesn’t cloud with ice. But both detract from flavor. With chill filtering you remove oils and esters that add to mouth feel and flavor.
4. I don’t care how many barrels they hold. I’ve blind tasted many Scotches that absolutely demolished JW Blue and was half the price. For example Bunnahabhain 18 absolutely crushes JW Blue and goes for $100.
5. Uhhhhh. All distilleries have master blenders. I can name dozens of bottles that totally DEMOLISH JW Blue for less money. Bunnahabhain 18, Glendronach 18, Glengoyle 21, Springbank 15, Springbank 18, Arran 18, Arran 21, Deanston 18, Old Pultney 17 and 21, Longrown 18....the list goes on and on. JW Blue isn’t bad whiskey. But about $100 or it is paying for marketing. IMO, I would only buy JW Blue for $80. That its value to my palate. It is smooth. Yes. But so is water. It’s diluted to the MAXIMUM allowed by law, chill filtered, and artificial color. And it doesn’t even have an age statement. This is all fine and dandy for a $35 blend like Compass Box Great King St. But not for a $200 bottle.
Double black is def the dark horse here. Nice intro to peet without destroying you and it’s cheap. This is what I buy people who aren’t into whiskey. After that they really aren’t worth the price for me. The blue might be the worst value in scotch.
Anyone seen the Butcher from Bakersfield?
Just watch Jim Beveridge explaining how these whiskies are created and your snobbiness disappears
Reserve is a bit unfair
you said double black face
No one got his "interesting" joke! 🤣
People poo poo n it because it's fashionable to say, it's too common and want to come off as phony connoisseurs. I don't like whiskey, but can appreciate what it's supposed to taste like. Other supposed boutique whiskeys may taste different or "better" in their unique way, but it's not what whiskey is supposed to taste like.
Lets move on to our first color.... They are all colored... LOL 😂😂
