    JD SiBBF single-handedly changed my mind about what JD brings to the table, and one of my special occasion pours. ALSO! Based on your recommendations, I saved the last 2oz of my 375mL bottle of JD SiBBF and added OF 1920 and OF 1910 to make the "Brown-Forman Banana Pancakes" blend you all recommended a while back--SO F*CKING GOOD!
    I have a bottle of 1792 FP that I have been waiting to open for my whiskey group, but I may need to sneak in a pour beforehand to see what all the fuss is about...

      That blend sounds good. What video do they talk about it in? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the rye, but my standard JDSBSBP is one of those bottles that's fine, but I'd rather sip Rare Breed Usually, so it's sitting and won't be replaced (unless I find a Hazmat batch)... So are 1920 and 1910... so that blend sounds perfect for me.

    This was very interesting. I have both these bottles currently on my high proof shelf. Initially I enjoyed the JDSBBP much more. It had heat (mine is 130.8 proof), but also a lot of flavor. For some reason the 1792 FP just came across as having so much more heat. Conversely to your experience, for me it drank very hot. However, now that it's been open a while and I've acclimated to the higher proof bourbons I find I'm really enjoying the 1792. I still really enjoy the JDSBBP. I have another one waiting to be cracked open at 131.2 proof.

    • @christophersmolinski622
      @christophersmolinski622 Před rokem +2

      Too funny...I had just the same experience recently. JDSBBP was one of my personal favorites (heater at 130 proof) but it never came off too hot and I got tons of banana. 1792 FP was a burner to the point that the heat took away any flavor and it was all burn. Regretted the trade and sat on it untouched for almost a year. Two weeks ago, I decided to try the 1792 again and it completely changed. The heat tempered and I got a rush of cherry. I preferred it over the JD. JD remains one of my favorites but 1792 redeemed itself.

    Something to ponder: many craft whiskies come into the market overpriced in the $70-80 range so when we get tried and true barrel proof/full proof products for under $70 in this market, it has to be looked at as a high value. Both of these are 3
    or 4 thumbs up for retail consumer. So y’all need to bring some extra hands for these rare occasions😂

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  Před 9 měsĂci

      Keep in mind single barrels will vary quite a bit as well, and one thing we’ve noticed is a lot of variability with both of these products. We’ve got four different JDSBBPs in the house right now and they all taste wildly different (with two being markedly better than the other two).

    • @Lithanify
      @Lithanify Před měsĂcem

      @@stuffandwhiskey Meanwhile I agree with you on the JD (my SBSBP is good, but definitely not complex... as you said; they're single barrels so gonna vary)... but disagree on the 1792 (but mine is not a pick)... as others note, (and as most of the haters on it point out) it drinks HOT HOT HOT... definitely not underproof (but again, yours is a pick so could be different). But if you are prepared, or let it smooth out in the glass a bit... it's definitely not simplistic. It's not got the folds and wrinkles of a cigar blend or a super deep 10+ y/o bourbon obviously; but it's got several key flavor notes and it is BOLD in those. It tastes bland if you let the ethanol scorch your taste buds (which is why some reviewers say it's nothing but hot). 1792 FP actually was a really nice surprise, as I just do not enjoy 1792 SB or BIB. I need that proof to enjoy the flavors that 1792 juice has going on.

And there's something on the nose I really like but I can't put my finger on...yet. It certainly doesn't nose at 125 proof to me. First sip: that is a looooooong 125 proof finish. Slightly hot, very woody, and it really coats the palette. Second sip is the same. Honestly, if all 1792 FP were like this I'd recommend it all day. Josh here. We definitely could’ve been more clear there. Our expectations are that if we pay money for something, we want it to be thumbs up across the board. We’ll mark up or down from there based on how good it is or isn’t. This applies to all pours. For Erin, she’ll also mark down if she dislikes something about one pour compared to the other, because as she figures it, if we’re comparing two things and she prefers one then the other warrants being marked down (whereas I’m more prone to scoring things the same if they’re a flip of the coin). Hope that clarifies. We’re revamping how we score and talk about pours in the coming weeks BTW to simplify and clarify. Appreciate you watching Kevin!

We say whether we like it enough to want to own a bottle blind, find out the price, then say whether that changes our opinions or not. Done and dusted (and super simple). @stuffandwhiskey ties in plenty of sporting events?? 🤔🤣🤔🤣 You must not be a real sports fan. A tie results in less than 1% of the games. And those games are usually regarded as a huge disappointment and let down by the fans because everyone leaves not a feeling of unfulfillment and confusion. Way to NOT listen to one of your viewers and take some constructive criticism. There's a reason that the two MOST subscribed bourbon channels (SLB and Bourbon Junkies) have all of these followers. They MAKE DECISIVE DECISIONS THAT HELP THE VIEWERS ACTUALLY DECIDE WHICH IS BETTER! Some of us don't have unlimited budgets to just casually have every single bottle laying around and just ho hum drinking them one day or maybe not. I actually ended up buying a 1972 Full Proof yesterday and literally went to the bathroom in a Total Wine scrambling to get information on if I should pull the trigger or not. Or your video in particular left me wishing I hadn't wasted my precious time on it! Thank God for the other channels out there that actually helped guide me into buying one! 😎🎸

    Like others have said, my bottle of Full Proof is HOOOOT!! On the contrary, the Jack drinks way below its proof.

    Availability of Jack Daniels Barrel Proof is 10 thumbs down. I have been into bourbon for 3 years now and do alot of hunting. I have never seen a JD BP once. I have been to Wisconsin hunting alot, I mainly shop in Minnesota where I live. I just cant find it but I would love to. I dont have a few bottles of 1792 full proof though, atleast I can find them

      Distribution is odd for sure, and admittedly we live in Jack Daniel’s backyard here in Nashville, TN. Hopefully they get it together and get more up that way.

    Your comments @10:00-11:00 or so are pretty telling. You think they both drink bland aka "over-simplistic", and also wildly under-guessed the proof. You blew out your senses chugging these big boys. May need a redo on this blind. @7:16 is exactly the problem that can occur blinding two high proofers, they dull down and become indistinguishable.

      Maybe, but maybe not. I hear what you're saying and your point stands. Unless I'm misremembering this video, it wasn't like these hit us like high proof in the beginning and then dulled down as we continued to sip (which would indicate our palates got blown out). That's just how they came across this day, which happens from time to time in completely double blind tastings without any frame of reference to proof in the first place. They're VERY similar in proof and VERY similar in flavor profile, which all makes sense upon reveal.
      That said, palate blow out is definitely something to be not only aware of but cautious about during blind tastings, and something we regularly keep in mind during all our recording sessions.
