  • Today I'm back up under a house doing a sewer repair. Y'all seem to love seeing me under houses, but this one's a little different. This pier and beam home had a serious issue with their sewer. We were able to find the problem and do an under house sewer repair to fix it. Enjoy the video and let me know what you think in the comments below.

    Never understood why plumbers use the purple primer. Makes things look soo messy. And in my experience it makes more sense to go ahead and change all that old cast to pvc already down there with all the equipment. Saves someone from doing it later. But other than that good work.

    • @RogerWakefield

      Roger Wakefield try deluding a can of clear with just a small amount of purple, just enough so the inspector can see it. Shouldn’t be an issue, it’s the same here in Maine and country wide for the most part. Keep up the great work and keep your fingers out of your mouth !

    • @losferwords100
      @losferwords100 Před 3 lety

      It's required by code unfortunately so the inspectors can easily see visually that every joint has been properly primed. If they see no purple, it's an instant fail.
      Just gotta take the extra time to not make a complete mess with the primer.

    • @losferwords100

      The purple is primer. It cleans and softens the PVC prior to gluing. It's required by code so the inspector can visually see all the joints have been properly primed. That's why it's dyed purple and isn't clear like the glue. They make clear primer as well that you can use for non-inspected work. Just know that you'll fail an inspection if you use clear primer.

    How did the builder get away with running a sanitary drain and potable water in the same trench?

    Is it required in Texas to
    use purple primer? That’s stuff is horrible! We use clear primer in Ohio. Glad you shared the video!

      @austinturner4159 Před 4 lety

      Yeah we have to use purple, its code here in NC

      TN requires purple on all new construction and underground so the inspector can tell primer was used.

    • @RogerWakefield
      @RogerWakefield  Před 4 lety +4

      The purple isn't required, I just prefer the purple primer because it lets the inspector know we put these fittings together properly. I'll use the clear primer under cabinets and things like that so it looks nicer for the customer.

    Texas and the upc code calls for metal strapping to be okay on pvc? Check out my cast iron toilet flange replacement video. Florida full service plumber trying to document all jobs and post them. Subscribers would be great. New camera is ordered.

    We in Germany use HT pipes( with rubber seals) for sewer installation. Is this not common in US?

    • @ricoludovici2825
      @ricoludovici2825 Před 3 lety

      Was ist HT? Das graue Kunststoff mit eingebauten Dichtungen?
      No, those are absolutely NOT used here in the US. Nothing with integral joints. All slip-fit plastic pipe with glue [aka: 'welded' per Universal Plumbing Code] fittings. Comes in white PVC and black ABS. Thicker walls than German pipes and quite rigid by comparison. [PVC=polyvinyl chloride; ABS= acrylic butyl styrene] Not better; just different.
      Also, the toilet drains here come out the bottom of the toilet, not the rear.

    I also like your really safe knee workbench! No but really I saw someone doing something similar, (he cut wood I believe) somehow the tool slipped. He got some parts of his knee replaced and had to go to rehab and so on. He can be happy that we live in Germany and the Arbeitsunfallversicherung (work accident insurance) from the company or his normal health insurance was paying for all this.

    I understand that you’re a licensed plumber in the state of Texas and your videos are a great introductory to
    plumbing. I just wanted to ask about a certain nit picky thing I noticed in the last few moments of the video. Where the hanging straps were shown in the shot been changed from galvanized to plastic to prevent the pvc from rubbing and potentially prevent any leaks?
