- Hey LEGO Maniacs! In this episode of OLD SCHOOL WEDNESDAYS we'll be reviewing the biggest, baddest, and deadliest pirate ship to hit the LEGO high seas...
As always let me know what you guys think? Thanks for watching and may the brick be with you... always - Zábava
This is a worthy match for the Barracuda
Comparison coming soon... and completely agree 🔥
Yep
This is also worty for the sculls eye
I own this set, but bought all the pieces seperately on Bricklink thinking I would save some money, but I did not lol. I did however buy 4 extra canons, about 6 more redcoats, a little rowboat that sits on one of the two sections on deck, 2 more bluecoat minifigs (not captains) and a bunch of sailors that hang in the masts and below deck to operate the canons etc. And some barrels with guns and swords etc and some crates with veggies. All the extra stuff makes it look even more realistic and a very busy and heavily armed ship like an imperial flagship should be.
Thats the way to do it, bought a bunch of these small cannon sets that included a soldier and pirate back in the day. Really helps to fill out the ship, LEGO should really include enough cannons to fill all the gun ports I feel
This is definitely the most realistic lego pirate ship.
Here's a list of the biggest pirate ships.
1. Imperial flagship.
2. Queen Ann's Revenge.
3. The Barracuda
I agree, and thanks for the comparison. I don't own the Queen Anns revenge. Great set 🔥
Hey naval historian here there is one glaring in accuracy and it’s that the ship is based off a fifth rate frigate and yet it’s mizen mast (back mast) doesn’t have a yard arm
Lego grail! Awesome set. Definitely top 5 of all time.
Same here, its a beaut 🔥
I don’t like how this set only comes with 4 cannons and it’s the biggest pirate ship and the queen Ann’s revenge comes with 6
Thats a good point, the only good thing is there was a smaller set, about 6 bucks, available at the same time and it had a cannon included, bought 8 of those lol
@@TieTheLegoGuy I think I know what set you are talking about
Wait I’m wrong both the imperial flagship and the queen Ann’s revenge come with four cannons it’s just that the queen Ann’s revenge has 2 fake cannon ports
Oh interesting, didn't know that, hope to own one of these days
Love the vid! :) it was so high quality. I just scored one of these from my local thrift shop auction along with a big bin of misc LEGO along with 6 boxed Brick Headz for $147!
DUDE THATS AN AMAZING DEAL! That sey is worth 600 USD in good condition, great finds 👌
Tie The Lego Guy ikr!! It’s my first complete LEGO pirates set, to my knowledge, other than fragments from the 80s/90s
Its an amazing set, easily in my top 10 sets of all time, you'll love it 🔥
That’s awesome! I’ve always wanted this set
Its a gooder for sure, i barely got it, but ended up working out in the end at least
It's not just an instrument...it's an entire Lego pipe organ!!
Ahh true, reminds me alot of Pirates of the Caribbean honestly
I finally have this set! i may be missing a few things but it looks pretty good
Dude I'm so happy for you, you're gonna love it 🔥 seriously thats awesome!
I built this ship as a kid, wish I still had it. Nice review, let me go down memory lane real quick.
Hey happy to take ya back 🔥
This set looks so Epic! :D
Thanks man 🙌
Just picked up this set for christmas. I can't wait! Great Video, This ship always was a huge favourite of mine :O)
Dude thats awesome!! Great set, one of my all time favorites as well 🔥
Where did you buy your set, as I'm trying to get one too
Ahh unfortunately I bought this way back when it was out. Its pretty pricey nowadays
Such a great set. It is about time lego does a remake for this but with Bluecoats.
That would be awesome 👌 great excuse to remake as well. Be interested to see what they do nowadays with it
@@TieTheLegoGuy It probably wouldn't be that different. I think sailing ships have changed least over the years. Like if you compare fire trucks from 1989 to today you'll see huge improvements, but when you take the Black Seas Barracuda and compare it to the latest pirate ship release, I think there isn't too much of a difference even in detail. (and the BSB wins the comparison imo but that is up to personal preference.
Yeah thats true, you can have them together, even 20 years apart and they don't look wierd. Hmm didn't realize the Baracuda was that big, to my knowledge it doesn't have a full bottom deck but I could be wrong
@@TieTheLegoGuy it has a "kinda" double deck, basicly it has an upper deck and a big hole in the middle which gives direkt access to the cannon area and it is a bit smaller than the imperial flagship
@@AClassicBrick ahh didn't know that, would love to get that set as well, just goes for a hefty price, maybe bricklink
Awesome! This ship i very BIG!
Haha yeah its huge, gooder for sure 👌
The largest pirate LEGO ship ever? Actually, Silent Mary and Metalbeard’s Sea Cow are bigger ; both with over 2k parts... BTW, nice review :D
Haha had to do a little extra research on what ya said. Its not the biggest boat, but biggest Pirate ship which was what I was going for. Metalbeards I wouldn't quite put in the same category of authentic Pirate ship, also Metalbeards is definitely bigger. With the Queen Mary I'd put the two at a tie for size since it has no bottom deck and its retail price was similar if you factor in inflation. Thanks, just doing what I can, and i appreciate the extra info 👌
the silent mary is not really a ship, but if you say so.
I’d definitely say if we’re measuring for just pure mass this beauty is bigger. Metalbeard’s is definitely not what I’d define as a LEGO pirate ship. Silent Mary is a bigger husk I’d say but not as much there when it comes down to it.
This set is friggin' awesome. The only pirate ship I have is the Black Pearl. I'd love to add more to my collection eventually.
That is a great set though, hope to one day own it, love the Pearl 😉
@@TieTheLegoGuy It's a great set! I built it once and it's been packed up since. My brother got it for me for my birthday just as it was retiring, so I scooped up most of the other POTC sets (which I still haven't built)...just missing the Queen Anne because it was already starting to fetch a premium, though wish I would have considering how much it goes for now. But I'm happy with the Black Pearl...it's a beauty and has some great figures...also glad I got the other sets. I recently checked to see which minifigs I was missing from that set (that weren't in others), there was one or two inexpensive ones I'll grab at some point. The Angelica figure with the rare (probably often lost) small tan feather makes her figure go for a lot. I have it on a list, but don't want to pay full price for her figure. Maybe I can luck into finding the rare feather piece in a used tub...heck I might have already and not known it, I didn't know that was a rare color for that piece until a couple weeks ago. haha.
i got the queen anne's revenge for a steal on ebay great condition and like missing three pieces
I hope lego makes a big big 18 plus set of a collonial time periode soon. ( Titanic style )
I really want to get my hands on one of these. I have been eying it basically since it came out but i m thinking i m gonna try my luck on it. Do you have any tipps for buying one of these?
Hmm try bricklink and ebay and see about even incomplete, sometimes a incomplete model can be nearly complete and go for far less than a complete model
That is the coolest pirates ship I've ever seen.
Thanks Rex, seriously its one of my favorite sets of all time
Must look fantastic Next to the Pirates of Barracuda Bay Set!
It does, even did a comparison of it too, great sets 👌
I have got a Moc (Fake Lego) version of this ship coming in the mail from China. This review was very helpful!
Haha glad I could help, that ship may honestly be the best LEGO has ever made
Man, now I want Brickbeard’s Bounty AND this set! Also, I think that the Pirates are the heroes because they are like American Rebels vs British soldiers
Hmm thats an interesting idea, it is set around about 100 years before the American Revolution I believe, but still a cool concept
I thought that this theme was set in the 19th century around Blackbeard’s time
I think LEGO set it in the pirates hay day, aroind 1600 to about 1750 if I'm not mistaken, still close though lol
I guess that makes since for redcoats because of the British Empire’s strength back then, but I think that the bluecoats are Americans so then it would be the early 1800s
The bluecoates were based off of french soldiers, with the MOC I'm building its basically the french vs british. But with LEGO you can make it what you want which is cool. The older sets always said just imagine so make em that then 🔥
What bugs me is that when I try to see if I can find one online I see prices go from over a thousand to a little over a hundred so I can’t find a decent priced used one without worrying whether or not it’s authentic
Hmm generally they'll say LEGO, or LEGO compatible. I'd recommend buying from ebay and making sure you paid with paypal, that way you have buyer protection if you get scammed. Also bricklink is pretty good for getting authentic LEGO. Hope this helps, can be tricky lol
Although it comes in discreet packaging unless you pay more for the real box
this is my dream set
Such a good model, falls easily into my top 10 sets honestly
Awesome ship indeed. I don't know how old you are, or what criteria you use to classify this as an "old school" set, but to me; this is not an old school Lego Pirate set. Truly old school would be everything up to 1996, for me. From 96 onward you see the Pirate theme losing its charm, in a sense, and it then disappears after 97. I believe some sets were re-released in 2001. Come 2009 and 2010 the theme is reintroduced, but the only good sets they released were Brickbeard's Bounty and the Imperial Flagship. That's well over a decade after the original line had run its course. I was a kid when the first Pirate sets came out, and they are a big part of my childhood, but during that gap, I was growing up, and I never even noticed the release of the Imperial Flagship, because Lego wasn't on my radar anymore. Even the 2015 releases went unnoticed by me, and I honestly only found out about the Flagship after 2015. So to me, this is absolutely not an old school set. Needless to say I don't own this ship, but I think it's a great design, although I do have some minor gripes. It is in fact the biggest Pirate ship, unless the new and revised Barracuda is slightly larger (haven't checked if it is). Technically, the Pirates of the Caribbean are not part of the "Pirates" theme. The Flagship came too late, and it would've probably done so much good to the Pirates theme, had it existed in 97 or so. You know, in my opinion, the main reason the Pirate theme disappeared after 96/97 was because the generation that grew up playing with this theme was simply getting too old. As toys, this theme belonged to my generation, but then when we were growing up, that entire target group fell away, and they had to start new projects with new themes, for a new generation. I clearly remember getting the Barracuda for Christmas, and my next-door neighbor got the Eldorado fortress that same night, and we would visit one another, and bring all of our Pirate sets, and play with the stuff. Fun memories. Lego could reintroduce Pirates now exactly because my generation has grown up now, and that target group from back then would again become a new group to target, simply due to nostalgic reasons. You see this with the new Pirates of Barracuda Bay; people are very interested in it, because it's the same people who used to play with the original Black Seas Barracuda. In all honesty, Lego could easily revive the entire theme right now and they'd probably sell like hot cakes, as many of my generation still have that interest in this theme, either because of nostalgic reasons, or because we have kids of our own now. Anyway, sorry for typing this long ass comment, lol. Great review by the way!
Hey i totally hear ya, to make Old School Wednesdays they have to be at least 10 years or older. I completely agree this is not part of the late 80s and 90s old Pirate theme. I think were about the same age, I'm in my 20s.
Oh wow the Eldorado and Barracuda are amongst the best pirate sets imo. Can't wait to get Barracuda Bay. And I think a new Pirate theme would do extremely well, I'm hoping if the new Pirate set does really well, LEGO will consider bringing the theme back in all its glory lol
@@TieTheLegoGuy Too bad this current crisis is making it kinda hard for Lego to truly profit. I'd love to buy that new set, but currently, I just can't afford to pay for it, seeing as how the future is somewhat unclear. I'm a bit older than you are, though; mid 30s already. Time flies. Alright take care mate!
I hear ya, hopefully this stuff is taken care of soon. I can totally see not spending money on LEGO right now. And thanks, you too man, stay safe 👍
Thinking of getting this ship I think after this video I will 👍 Subscribing now!
Hey thanks man, just saw this comments, its a great set, will not disappoint ya
It is very expensive though
Good video. FYI. On a ship, the prison is a Brig, the kitchen is a Galley.
Ahh thanks for the lingo, had no idea that the galley was that, appreciate it 🙌
Great review. I keep seeing this one in your collection and was wondering when the review was. Tough set to beat, it was the first time the pirates had to worry.
Thanks Hbar, so much LEGO to get to and so little time lol. Haha good point, the tides have turned 😉
Have you cleaned the sails on the set? If not, are you the original owner? Have you notice any discoloration over time? I’m asking because I notice that sails can become discolored and the brown lines with a sewing pattern will turn yellowish after a wash. Yours don’t look super brown but aren’t bad either.
Yeah I'm the original owner, and no not really fortunately. But I would keep put of sun light, can age them or LEGO in general I've found
How does the brown not crack
I just got the ship yesterday I am going to do a napoleonic stoption with it
Thats awesome man, perfect set for it 👍
Looks really great! Better than the Black Seas Barracuda and white Spanish ships I had as a kid. Too expensive nowadays...
Love this one personally, and yeah... would not pay what its going for nowadays either lol
I got it for $60 on Aliexpress ;)
Its fake, but thats one way of getting something similar if you wanna go down that route 🤙
I wish I didn’t have to wait for Christmas
Ahh little ways away, but awesome you're getting it!
I just bought one on eBay for $195 complete/used in open box. Seller seems legit with 1,000 positive feedback. They haven’t sold any other lego in a while. USA seller. Seriously hoping it’s legit. I want this badly. If it does, my eBay newly listed refresh obsession will have paid off. Great video... made me want it even more.
Thats an insane deal! It normally goes for 600 used! Great job, really hope it pays off. You'll love the set 🔥
Was it legit?
The most amazing set ever
such a shame they’re all over 1,000 dollars online
I know... hopefully we get a remake
@@TieTheLegoGuy Thatd be a wish come true
I NEED THIS SET!!! WHERE DID U BUY IT
Haha i bought it back in 2010 at the lego store, try bricklink tho or maybe ebay
Tie The Lego Guy i was 1 in 2010 and i started collecting legos when i was 3 or 4
Tie The Lego Guy oh and btw u just earned a subscriber!!!!🤩. Keep up the good work👍😁

Great news I got a pirate set!! Its not a ship it’s the pirate chess. But I’m still very happy
I got for my birthday on ebay and it was $137 it is going to be so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude thats an amazing deal! Honestly shocking, great job 🔥
Sorry but it's fake...
@@jamesjones-banks8493 yeah i can see that, hope he got the real one for 137, but it definitely could be fake

Wow thats really great, crazy, amazing deal 👌
R u going to do mega or not
What do you mean by mega? Not sure what ya mean lol
As in mega bloks or construx
@@brickunleasher7631 oh yes, i'll see what i can find, will be in my next vlog

Thats awesome man, I hope you got a good deal. Its really good👌
@@TieTheLegoGuy i found one for 50 usd
Thats an incredible deal

I'm aware, its fake LEGO though, be careful if you thought it was real lol
@@TieTheLegoGuy well then sorry dude

Haha thanks, little by little, and that would be awesome, looking into a better camera
It’s NOT a pirate ship by the way but good video though. 👍👍👍
Completely agree, i state that fact in the video, just the average LEGO buyer will catergorize it in the same category lol. And thanks 🙌
Ry K - It was part of the Pirates line.
@@bovineone2420 yeah exactly
Tie The Lego Guy - I love the pirate legos. I'm collecting the pieces for the old Skull's Eye Schooner. It's slow going but it's much cheaper finding the pieces on your own than buying a vintage set.
Dude thats awesome, fantastic set 👌 i hope to get Barracuda bay soon myself, and hopefully some other rare pirate sets
thats not a pirate ship lol
It isn't lol but is put under the pirate theme, thats the reason they still refer to it in that category
I cant believe they haven't made a new ship similar to this.....
Same here, the newest Barracuda is probably the closest we'll get in the next little while
