Found this set in a second hand video game store recently. It was missing a few pieces as well as alpha draconis ( though someone had replaced him with a blacktron 2 minifigure). I think I payed around $30 for it.

What train motor are you using for wheels?

This was the only base set I got for any of the 90s themes. Loved it, but I was still at the age sets stayed built for a few months, then my brother and me would cannibalize them for other builds. I'll have to rebuy it and a few of the other Aquanauts and space themes someday.

the only good pirate set of 1996(this could have been and armada dominated wave)

super underrated. this theme was a bit crammed with the insectiods, robo force(most aliens at the time) exploriens and to some extent spyruis

man, themes in this era(armada, spyruis, exploriens, and maybe ninja) were soooo underrated, thats why the remakes are soo necessary

My first ever set. Got it as a birthday present when I was like 8 or 9.

Overpriced and had so little for the price. My biggest issue was how many gaps and inaccuracies were in it.

The 2002 has the best landing gear by far

I passed over this one a million times in the catalogs back then because the picture didn't appeal to me for some reason. I'm really regretting it now, this thing is awesome.

These are the two Spyrius sets I had as a kid. They were my favorite.

It is absolutely stunning set. Excellent variability for that amount of pieces, a lot of alternate builds, nice functionality, a lot of rare details - and relatively low price for that all! 6899 and 6938 sets from Exploriens series always were my love dedicated from all Lego sets.

Battle Beasts had thermal stickers also. Discovered that as a kid when I left two Battle Beasts near the stove when my mother was cooking. The stickers looked black, but them showed a fore and wood symbol when near heat.

It’s a shame that the husky doesn’t look the same as the one on the picture on box

This and the Amazon Ancient Ruin i still have and to this day are two of my absolute favorite sets

Thanks for the review! I also had this set, it was one of the first sets I ever got. While I loved it as a kid, I later realized it had a bit too many large pieces, and you couldn't build all that much from it. Though it still looked great, and the way it came together was very neat. I also loved the holographic computer, just like you do. I think this set may not be on the level of Space Police or Ice Planet, or the most iconic "old space" sets, but still easily some of the better things Lego has produced in the '90s.

dont know about the blue row boats, in 90's red coats had red row boats :) - they didnt got red cannon mount claps probably because pirates had them, but rest is very cool

The Warp Wing Fighter is my favorite LEGO set of all time.

I think I got that when I was 11 or 12. I'm 38 now. It was the last box I got (my Nanna bought it for me) and the last I built. It's still built, well, I broke it down slightly to fit it back into the box. And it's the last Lego I have... I lie, I also have 6949 Robo-Guardian, which is still built from when I got it, I was probably 9! It is still displayed in my room. Few pieces missing though:( I was 'growing up' and gave all my other Lego away to a neighbours kid... I regret it all the time! I'm very much into DIY and tinkering... the number of times I've wished to have it back to help with some or other idea, for example I wanted to try build a semi-automatic label applicator for labeling bottles, would have been easy to experiment with mixing Lego and Technics. I'm forever grateful to my Nanna for introducing and supporting my Lego hobby. It really influenced how I think/my approach to things. One of these days I'm gonna have to just buy a box! :D

Both the Spyrius and Unitron sets have a lot of great parts - and many of the parts and colors are not exclusive to Unitron or Spyrius, so they would work for a variety of different MOC's - even ones related to other space themes like M-Tron, Blacktron, or even Classic Space! I think they would be great parts sets even if you don't care for the series (even though the series itself is great!)

I absolutely love this set but I have not pulled the trigger because it would be the only set in my collection with the old lego gray... though I've thought about purchasing the parts in bricklink with the light and dark bluish gray colors. Great review!

Excellent set. I dreamed about it so much when I was a kid. These old space theme mini-series like Exploriens, Spyrius, Ice Planet and so on were absolutely amazing. Current ones may look more sleek but can't compare with Old School anyway. At the moment, LEGO did not need any movie franchises to make their stuff interesting!

I never had Spyrius minifigures and playsets.

Western sets in Europe had shooting cannons. Same for pirates sets

If this was your first set, you were the rich kid or the divorced parents kid.
