Drill a hole through the metal hilt, and put a wooden pin in there, this will secure the handle. This is ancient blacksmithing at it's best.! if only you had a "power hammer machine" just imagine how much easier it would be for you. My right shoulder was aching just watching you pounding that steel. Bagus my friend..!!

Having the blade thicker on the top helps in the downward force and reduce a risk to break the blade. It was a little to thin for a machete.
