The official video gives life to the sadness of this song and is straight tear inducing.
I find the video detracts from the song. Most reactors focus way more on her cheating than the feeling and lyrics of the song. You honestly kind of tune out the second verse because she is literally a piece of shit that cheated on a husband off fighting a war in the video.

The video for this is just brutally heart-wrenching and flips the script on the story of the lyrics taken at face value.
I almost always recommend the live performance over a video/studio one. The mastering process can cover a multitude of vocal shortcomings. Almost always , here though, watch the video it tells the story perfectly.
Depends on the music genre... I love hip-hop and rap, but it is horrible live because its mostly lip syncing and background tracks...

Brad has been around for a long, long time and doesn't have a bad song and his videos are by far the best in country music. Do them all. I assume them being apart was just because just because she didn't want to be together but then she felt guilt when he "deleted" herself.
Growing up I saw both male and female relatives die from cirrhosis due to drinking . So this song has held an odd place in my heart for a long time . I both love and hate it . Thanks for your reaction superb as always .

There is alot of songs like that. My example is Chris Young debut album had a song called the dashboard. Didn't really pay attention to it. Then after my best friend since high school died I was just listening to some old cds I had and that song hit me completely different. My old truck that me and him built together is sitting waiting for me to have the money to rebuild it. It's gonna be like a tribute to him and gonna eventually drive to and see Alaska something we always talked about.

His story is interesting, but I recommend you listen to him sing,"When You Say Nothing at All." Excellent song re-recorded by Allyson Krauss. Though I love her voice, only Keith could really sing that song.

Seriously bro you gotta see the original video. It will make a lot more sense. After being cheated on by my fiancé at the time I played this song over and over and almost accomplished the same outcome. Now 20 years sober. This song takes me right back to those tremendously dark days. I believe you can literally die from having your heart broken. The moral is, be careful with the love you experience. It’s the most powerful thing besides God that we can experience in our lives. Never cheat on someone, the consequences are horrific and as this song speaks to, can end with permanent results.

So, when the two songwriters of this song, Bill Anderson and Jon Randall, got together, they were trying to write a song called "Midnight Cigarette." Jon Randall had been going through a divorce and had started drinking heavily and he told Bill "sometimes you just got to put the bottle to your head and pull the trigger." Bill said "forget about Midnight Cigarette. I want to write a song about putting the bottle to the head and pulling the trigger." And out of it came this song.

"Alcoholism is a vicious cycle" is one way the message can be interpreted.
The first line says she dumped him, the reason doesn't matter. He's heartbroken and never gets over it.
