I use 1095 a lot. It's very forgiving and easy to work with. It's also a little more easily available than a lot of other blade steels.

Nice I liked the way you were able to show moving the steel for the heel radius ..nice job there.
I like 1095 because its the top end of forge heat treat steels...fiddly to get right sometimes but you don't necessarily need ovens and all the other stuff just good temperature control and quenching to get really decent results.
looking forward to the next video
    Thanks for sharing

I still use some 1095, but only when someone asks for it specifically. I mostly use 80CRV2 now, with occasional 15N20 for kitchen knives. I am going to try my first hamon with a couple kitchen blades in W2 with my next batch of blades.

1095 has been my favorite for like 10 years since i started bladesmithing as a kid. at first bc it was cheap and accesable, but now as an adult, Its alot easier to understand the simpler steels. Theres no weird implications that i have to think about when considering edge geometries or use cases. I also find that since we already understand it so well its super verastile with the heat treatment and temper, you can go shallow hardened in oil for a camp knife, through hardened in water for a chefs knife, or for a chopper differential temper with a torch if you want. its really not picky.
in my opinion with the use of techinque, It can be optimized for 99% of carbon steel use cases while still having the higher hardness of some of the meduim / upper meduim alloy steels but without all the complecated and tempermental heat treat and temper proceedures.
Just a shame its not statainless too haha

Thing is I probably didn't notice any sound problems to begin with, the advantage of being old, crap and a bit deaf. We're easy to entertain like a silent old timey movie
