A Message For The "Haters"

- There will always be complainers on CZcams. Let's talk about why there are sponsors on this channel. Turn off Ad-Block and subscribe to CZcams Premium. I did last year and it's worth every penny. CZcams Premium PAYS CREATORS.
Regarding video sponsors, unlike CZcams ads you can skip sponsored messages with one click.
Temu Tumbler video: I pointed out the knife I ordered off their platform was garbage and that there were many sites selling 'tumbler'-like sharpeners. Guess what sits by my stove and I'm' still using btw... That's right the rolling sharpener from Temu. I might look into the Hone sharpener in the future.hmmmmm
I don't choose sponsors, they choose me. I turned down a mobile game app last year and that was probably a mistake. I've reached out to a few knife related businesses about sponsorship with no luck. It is what is.

Whatever keeps your channel running is worth it mate, keep being awesome!
Here here. One of the best channels in the space.
Ty, bro
I will never understand why people watch videos just to complain when they know they won't like it in the first place
Cuz you forgot people originally subscribed to see a knife maker, not a youtuber that posts once a week that is now reviews.
Yeah, I don't really agree with them but i get that they like his other videos, and are sad that he's making more of a type of video there just don't like watching. I for one don't mind the sponsored stuff, It's just kind of a thing for youtubers now. I do prefer the build videos but i get that money has to come from somewhere, and he's a lot more honest reviewing sponsored products than most.
@@TheSteveMeisterSo unsubscribe? You’re not paying for a service. You aren’t entitled to anything just for subscribing.
@@TheSteveMeisterThen only watch the knife making videos. Your welcome for fixing the hard problems
Yeah I see way too much of that.
Steve, you don't even need to explain anything. There are those of us who understand it completely, while there are others who are never going to understand. Doesn't matter what you do or say.
So... Just keep the fantastic work. 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I totally agree with you.
Agreed. A non-biased review on tools is MUCH appreciated. It can save those in the market from wasting time and money.
This hobby is expensive enough (and sometimes hard to justify) for us guys without CZcams channels, let alone someone like you who has all the extra filming expenses, time dedicated to producing the videos instead of more knives, and does some crazy cool experimental stuff that is both expensive and not necessarily the best from a pure knife sales perspective. I got my footing under me as a bladesmith watching and learning from a lot of your video. The value you give back to the bladesmithing community goes beyond the entertainment value of the videos, there’s also an educational and influence aspect that I’m sure has touched more smiths than myself. Keep doing what you do, Steve, and don’t listen to the whiny assholes. Your true target audience has, and always will, support you.
🙏 ty man that means alot
I'm grateful you're here! I'm a maker and have never considered knife making, but I really enjoy watching it. Your content is great, and I love your humor. Sponsorships keep content creators alive and creating content. Don't sweat the haters! Keep up the great content until it no longer brings you joy and fulfillment.
I typically enjoy the type of sponsorship you have. Especially when it's the expensive sharpeners. As a bladesmith myself I like your perspective as a bladesmith on the reviews. People are going to complain, you do you and I'll continue to tune in and support the channel
You were one of the first knife making channels that I subscribed to many years ago. You have humor, education, and honesty. I have unsubscribed to other channels for other reasons but I am standing with you, Steve. #Team Green Beetle!
#goindowninablazeofglorywherearemyviewswellshiyaaaaaat. We'll be there togerther! :)
I appreciate the candid format of your channel. I used your reviews when looking for a sharpener. I found your channel several years ago and enjoy the learning process with you. Thank you.
🙏
I appreciate the full cost breakdown , of time as well as money. I won't be starting a youtube channel anytime soon.
I truly hope your channel will thrive this year. I appreciate the fact that you use tools that most decent hands-on people would have access to as most other channels has overly fancy equipment that makes the process seem too industrial, instead with your videos you actually get a sense of all the challenges and joys of making a knife in your garage. You have inspired me to take up the hobby of knife making and as a full time working man I am impressed that you even have time to spend on this hobby let alone have time to film and edit anything. Between running a homestead and working full time I average about 4 Knives a year which are stock removal only, If I had to forge or make a damascus knife ill probably only be able to do 2 or 3 a year.
I have enjoyed all your sponsored videos just as much as any of the other, in fact I wish you could get a lot more knife related sponsors as those videos are exceptionally informative and I can see the effort you put in to make the video as unbiased as possible.
If our currency wasn't absolutely useless (South African Rand) I would buy every single knife you make or just to keep your channel going and help you get some new equipment.
Anyways, that was just a long way of saying keep up the excellent videos and know that your efforts are appreciated by most of us.
Dude, I personally am glad you addressed the Haters. Made another great video to watch! You and Schrap are the only knife makers I watch now as your videos are so bloody good! I don't really care how you keep the channel afloat, please just keep it floating. I love it!
100 % with you brother. Not quite sure why I make videos anymore. It is just a struggle to even get views. Thank you for your efforts.
Thank you for everything that you've done. I've been watching and subbed since you uploaded the cable knife, which is the video that brought you to my watch list.
Please keep doing this until you no longer get enjoyment from it.
Again, thank you.
Your channel was the first information working I found, and as such, I have kept faithful because of the good/realistic content. Some people suck, and you rock, so thank you for all the help.
That puts things into perspective for me. I got into knife making over 10 years ago because it was something I happen to have a nack for. Then after making a few hundred knives and only selling a few of them I quickly realized I needed to sell more just to be able to make enough to keep going at it.
I began only doing commission work which ultimately was faw and few between. Tried doing the YT thing, asking for donations, hoping word of mouth and Instagram would help. Even competed on Forged In Fire. Long story short, I hung my hammers and sold all my equipment and no longer making knives. It's a tough trade to stay afloat in.
I have a laser engraver and have made more money in the last two months than I did making knives all of last year.
And my YT is pretty much at a stand still. The world is a weird thing
Love your content and appreciate your efforts. You have one of the few channels I watch every time a new video pops up. Thank you!
I appreciate that!
Well said. So many people have no idea what goes in to producing things (any things), but are very quick to criticise.
I personally enjoy the review videos! I e been looking for a decent sharpener for some time to replace my cheap Amazon one so those videos help me see the pros and cons of knife sharpeners I've been studying haha. Keep up the good work man.
You started me on knife making, then around a half a year later I first watched forged in fire. I had quit drinking and I needed something the really keep me busy; I was in to knife making 100% and making some cool stuff. I really grew tired of hand sanding and took a break, which turned into a longer break. I’m back now but making small knives… like really small knives 5-7” total. I freaking love it and I’ve found my niche. Small knives are where it’s at, and you can wear them on your waste and not look like a weirdo.
Hey man!
Great and honest video!
I've followed you for 2-3 years maybe and I truly enjoy your content!
One of the things about your content is your honest reviews and of course your knife making content. I am a hobbyist knifemaker and have learnt a lot and gotten som inspiration from your videos!
I actually don't know what I wanted to say but I at least wanted to raise my voice for you!
Screw em all and keep on doing your thing!
Praise from Aland Islands!
Thanks for the vid. I'm not a complainer or hater but I did appreciate the low down on making your content, very informative. Also please keep producing, I love your content!
Great response and don’t apologize for trying to make money boss. Appreciate the blunt honesty on it all.
Most of the big channels I follow have several sponsors. I fast forward through the content. Done. You entertain me....I will comment and like it. If it isn't something I want to watch, I don't. Keep up the good work! Have a great week!
I appreciate that!
Love all your content man. Keep it up and ignore the haters.
You're doing good work brother. I appreciate this video even though it pertains to nothing of interest for me specifically. Anywhhhat! When your shit comes out, I watch. You come at us honestly and integrally. For that, you're also appreciated.
You've been one of my favorite craftsman to watch for as long as I've been watching CZcams. Your experimental nature really resonates with me, I love to see what can be made from other things. Sorry to hear people in this day and age can still justify whining about free content, I hope whatever frustration they give you, you know there's a lot of us who just enjoy seeing you work and figure out what's actually possible.
Ty this means a bunch hearing it
Love your stuff and totally feel your pain.
I was *just* getting traction ages ago when YT did their big creator culling.
I barely film anything anymore unless I think it will be funny or entertaining.
Man that's rough! I thought you made a bit more than. But the channel I definitely a labor of love!
Your videos are great! I alway click on them because the info is great, a they are funny sometimes, and you make really nice knives. I didn't realize that it took that much effort to make videos and do allbthe behind camera work. Keep up te great work I appreciate what you do. It gives me ideas for my knives. So thank you!
Keep up the great work & thanks for the hours of information you provide to the community. Sadly, we find ourselves in a culture where a subset of the population thinks it is easy to become a YT billionaire but are salty because they don't have the guts to figure out on their own, it isn't.
Well said
Keep keeping on homie.
I absolutely agree, and dont give heaters a minute of your life, your work is awesome man!!!!
You do a bang up job, and I always enjoy your content and your knives. Thank you!
You're fine with me. Been watching your videos for many years, have found them entertaining and well thought out, and am still a subscriber! You keep doing your thing however you need and want to. Oh yeah, I like reviews of products. To your point, no one is making me watch them. Try to not let the critics get to you. They aren't walking in your shoes.
The internet always finds a reason to cry about or hate about, if it isn´t too cheap then its too expensive, or this or that. I don´t mind sponsors as long as they fit the channel a bit and if the review is honest about the product and sponsor. A lot of people have no clue how much it costs to run a channel about blacksmithing, and the time it takes to make it. I would suggest those that don´t make knives, let them hand sand a 80 grit knifeblade about 20cm long to a mirror polish and see how long it takes them. Most will quit not even half way in.
I've always enjoyed the journey and am very happy with my current knife sharpener setup as reviewed here.
Love your videos and doing it without making any profit makes them even more special, thank you...
I've been watching your videos for years now, and I've learned _so_ much from you. Thanks for continuing to make your content and don't listen to the whiners - the adults among us recognise that sponsors are necessary to run most channels these days.
Thanks for your honesty. Best of luck to you. Sod the haters
I really appreciate this insight
I hope your channel grows more and you start to generate a larger profit
Thank you sir
I don't mind the product reviews at all. I appreciate the sharpener reviews in particular. In fact, I'd love it if you'd do some reviews on 2x72 belts. Keep up the good work and screw the haters.
Thank you for doing what you do, I LOVE this channel!
For what it's worth, I really enjoy your videos, even the reviews. Keep up the good work as long as it makes sense for you.
Great response bud only people making money on the work u do is utube not the maker thanks for ur hard work
You do what you have to do for a living. Keep doing the great job you are always doing (even this video I found it informational and entertaining as well)
Keep doing what your doing GB! I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you man.
🙏
😀😁😂🤣 LOVE IT!!!
I couldn't agree more! I'm a small channel hovering around 4.1k subs. I don't get any sponsor requests and the number of hours spend on making the knife, capturing the raw footage, editing the video for some degree of quality, voice over, and publishing on at least 2 platforms, is almost a full time job. It makes it really hard when you're already working a 40 hour work week at a career and then doing this, too.
Keep it up, Steve! Mad respect from OKC!
I love watching your videos. Probably the only knife maker I actually watch. I didn't watch the product reviews, think I'll go watch them all now. Mebe I'll troll the trolls on those...
😝
Never mind the haters. I'm personally glad you're getting sponsors. Keep it up Steve!
Well, I appreciate the work you put into your channel.
The beautiful thing about sharpener reviews is that they're clearly marked in the titles...so if they're not of interest to you, you can (shocker) not watch em.
Love your videos, Steve. If you need sponsorship to keep the channel afloat do it.
Haters are going to hate. I love your videos. They are entertaining and educational. Keep it going man!
i really like the content you make quite a bit! knife making itself is not lucrative at all and takes a lot and making videos is like even worse so you’re doing great. if you ever need something lighter just film a hand sanding asmr that’s like 30 minutes and i’ll watch the whole thing 500 times while i study
Keep doing sponsorship, forget about those haters! love your content, greetings from Italy
Appreciate it
Best channel on CZcams by far. Keep it going Steves!
Thank you for putting this into perspective.
I don’t mind the sponsor stuff. I can skip through if it’s something I’m not interested in and some thing do get me into something new. So if you can help fund the channel… go for it. Keep up the great work. This is one of my favorite channels.
Well said Steve. The CZcams game isn’t what everyone thinks it is. There’s a lot more involved than making a video and getting rich🤣 it doesn’t work quite like that, despite what people believe.
People assume so many things are free that aren't. Same reason small restaurants go out of business. It's expensive. Do what you gotta do to keep on floating. I've thoroughly enjoyed your content and if I had the finances, I'd be a patreon. Love your work!
🙏
Love your channel, do what you need to do
I watched the video review of the M-10 sharpener, and the only thing about it I found distressing was the exorbitant price tag (until I realized that the price on the website was in Polish Monopoly money and the price in real currency was just south of $300). I was actually unaware that Poland still used the zloty as their currency.
You tell em Steve! Just keep doing your thing Steve. You'll keep growing and more money will come.
Hey Steve, do what you got to do to keep making the videos that we love.
Lol when you said this video wasn’t for me, you really meant it!😂🤣
Keep bangin' metal, GB. Never mind the buzzing of flies...
They hate it for he spoke the truth. Keep doing your thing man. The breakdown of a CZcams channels crippling financial burden was very educational
its not an easy game!
I love transparency like this.
"Man's gotta eat" - Randy Bobandy
Love this as a subscriber and fan of the channel. A lot of people do not get the cost involved. And agree with you on this. If you don’t want to watch a sharping video don’t watch it. Simple
I really liked the sharpener series you've done.
The concept and execution is interesting and informative. Although I've not been convinced to get any of the ones you've reviewed I still enjoy them and watch them.
To be honest your product reviews for the sharpers have convinced me to double down on getting good at using stones.
Most the sharpeners are too expensive or not high enough quality for my liking. (bit picky but none of them strike the balance I want) .
It's encouraged me to get really good with stones and stropping. Now I offer to sharpen family and friends knives because it's a hoot of a time.
Ty. Do you ever watch OUTDOOR55? He has great advice on stones.
Bravo Beetle- Keep on pluggin whatever you want- its just entertainment- and its good educational entertainment- better than watching cat videos at least! Be safe, well and as always- at peace!
I didn't buy a certain sharpener because of your reviews, so thanks!
Don't forget the outlay of energy. Electricity costs money too. I like your videos, and the humor you present. Please keep at it.
Keep up coming, and just block the haters
Hey I clicked the link to donate but no where on the page does it specify "Green Beetle"????
so can you point me to the right link?
Hey you definitely sold one shirt! I still have mine 😂😂
Preach
🤛
I feel ya man. I refuse to do sponsors though
Hey, you know what man you're making content for everybody! You're doing all this editing videoing all of this stuff for us to watch. Get paid for it man tell all the haters to F off!!!!
Best knife making channel on the platform. Screw the haters.
I love making knives but I also can’t afford just selling knives. Instead I steel flowers for 25 bucks a piece.
Interesting what is steeling flowers? Forging flowers?
I like what youre doing, for my part please carry on the way you are. I totally understand the sponsorship its useful stuff...and I like knowing the stuff about the kind of tools I might buy
(edit) Just to add on, if there are more ways you can make money doing this...please go for it.
I certainly understand the economics of needing sponsored videos, and applaud you for keeping your channel going. As you say, there's always the option not to watch! I am perfectly happy with my knife sharpening system, thus didn't watch your most recent video on the subject, but will continue to watch you, as evidenced by this comment. I believe the motto of the working Press is relevant here, "Illigitimati non carborondum." (Don't let the bastards grind you down)
nice quote, I 'm interested, where exactly did it come from?
It is generally thought to have originated with British Intelligence during WWII, and was eventually adopted by journalists, especially those who had to respond to nasty letters written to the newspapers they wrote for. It is actually not proper Latin at all, but it still works as a phrase and sentiment! @@GreenBeetle
Well said Sir.
People really need to understand that we don't do this to get rich. Also, that the educational videos don't go viral (that often)... so when you put all the work into a video that has a bunch of explanation, there is a chance that it will get a lot of views or a couple of thousand. The sponsors are what makes it better for us and kind of a reward for all the work. I went full time Knife Making and had to cut back on the video making, it just takes too much time to film and make them. It took about a month to figure out the balance. Now, I'm in a good spot with Live Streams and videos.
Tell me more about your experience live streaming
@@GreenBeetle I will forge a knife on a live stream and then that knife becomes the build that I complete on my "Shop Talk Tuesday" episodes. I typically do my live streams on Saturdays at 7pm and they have been getting over 5k views during the live stream lately. It saves a some time editing because the actual forging parts are all done live, that way I can just worry about editing the other parts. It's also nice to have the chat section going on and being able to answer questions as I go. I just treat it like a "Hammer in" for a large group of people.
Brother, you don't owe anybody any explanations, EVER!
A famous person once said, "Haters gonna hate." Sponsors seem necessary. You do you, I'm gonna keep watching, with ads.
Wait... I watched the whole thing and I still feel like complaining! Not about you schilling for product, but just life in general. Now you say you are not interested. My wife isn't interested in listening either. CZcams was my only outlet, now I will just have to go outside and scream at trees.
Expenses.. plus bandages..
Paw Patrol Band-Aids are expensive
@@GreenBeetle I feel an a review of sponsored bandages are coming up. If you did I would find it extremely entertaining with comparisons to said lesser bandages like duct tape and kerchiefs. (In all seriousness.. love your stuff).
Keep the sponsors coming. Gotta pay those bills.
I say more sponsors!!! Your channel is fantastic, fuck the haters.
This has nothing to do with sponsorships and everything to do with WHO you do sponsorships with and how.
I didn't unsub because you have sponsors. I've unsubbed because you gave exposure and a voice to abusive companies and then turned around and put your supporters on blast when they told you how much injury these particular sponsors cause.
This has been your most informative video yet. It really helped me to better understand what kind of creator you are.
You can have whatever sponsors you want, and I can watch whoever I want.
That means not you anymore.
Enjoy your sponsors.
Can only do sponsorships with those that offer... I am guessing they are few and far between... Beggars can't be choosers. You can choose not to view and feel all high and mighty with your superior morals wank, as obviously you are not begging for choice.
I subscribe to CZcams and will continue to watch the content I want to watch... That includes Green Beetle.
Good on ya.
Indeed sir! Hopefully this year goes a bit better and you get at least $0.10 and hour raise!
Yeah I love when reviews of products are done on things im interested in. It totally separates the good from the bad.
I watch you tube because it's informative and I'm interested in all things made by craftsman. I have even learned how to replace things on cars that before would have required an hour drive to a reference library to pay for photo copies and hours of reading and note taking from a repair manual to be able to diagnose and fix the problem. You and the other you tubers that I follow have made research easy for me. Anything expensive that I'm thinking about buying as far as tools go I will agonize over making the decision. You and Fire creek both did quality sharpener reviews which helped me to decide what t to invest in after I turn out my first successful knife. I spent 20 plus years working with wood and know firsthand that trying to sell something you create and make a profit that comes close to paying you what your time is worth is not always a reality. Remember that you have followers who decide to try to branch out in a new direction because we have seen you try, and fail, and share where it went wrong so that not only you learned from your mistake but so did we. Screw the keyboard warriors!
Keep doing you!
Matt Ferrell
🙏
I'm cool with it, related sponsor products aren't really a big deal for me.
Maybe try linking up with Benchmark Abrasives or a belt company
Apart from all those facts you stated in this video, and what other comments here said as well, I gotta say I really enjoy your sharpener reviews, too, sponsored or not. You‘re honestly in listing pros _and_ cons, and there‘s not too many channels who review somewhat special interest stuff like that, especially ones with practical experience in the field (not pure review channels).
Unless you suddenly start to review stuff that has no relation at ll to your channel, I don’t see the downside at all.
Keep on, great videos, great channel. My own knife making would be a lot worse without your videos!
