- Restoring a Lesney Matchbox No. 12C Land Rover Safari, in the Matchbox range from 1965 until 1971, joining the Superfast range in 1970.

This week I take this unruly Land Rover and restore it to its original state. Lesney never mask sprayed the grille or other details on this model, and I have stuck by that in my restoration. I have a Superfast variant that I'll customise and fill out all the details on in the near future, but hopefully I've done this one some justice to make it worthy of the plains of Africa again.
Hopefully this series will track my progress and aid me becoming a better modeller. There are plenty more videos to come and I have a big selection to choose from for future restorations. Please like and subscribe to be informed of new content first.

Superb restoration, it looks perfect. In the condition you received it the car looked as if it had been attacked by every sharp clawed animal in Africa.

Great job Jason! This one definitely had a hard life before you got it, came up like a million dollars in the end. Hope you do a custom on the Superfast version, lots of crisp detail on these castings and painting that in will really make it stand out.

I've restored a few if these there are some rare variations of this model gold with regular wheels and teal with superfast wheels
Your repaint and cleanup is very good...however, dipping the glass in floor polish will give it a nice glow and make your restoration really pop.

Hi,Jason,just discovered your channel.you've done a great job on that Landy.mine is in need of a repaint,now i have a gee up,i'll get round to it,having seen your model.
just found your channel...nice save...looks great...a point of info...the very earliest green release had a sprayed grill...a matchbox collector site i belong to one of the members found one (most likely a trial run)...also the detail on the roof is different...the round part that the luggage piece goes into...the early green models do not have the tab...and the rear where the tow hook is on both sides has a raise detail...on the early green models that detail is not there...they usually add this type of detail for added support...ifi could post a picture i could show you

Nice outcome, just subbed, can I ask where you get your screws from and what they are, you type in M2 screws and you get the world and his friends in M2 screws lol
Generally just on eBay. I use flat and dome-head screws, 4mm in length. I tend to search for 4mm M2 and the type of head and go for the cheapest!

Just wonder of you get replica boxes for ypur restos.
I don’t, never really given it much thought. It’s a nice accompaniment but I don’t really have the room to store the made up boxes or a printer of good enough quality. My real joy is in the casting over the container though.
