Lyrics
Wham, bam - I am, a man
Job or no job, you can't tell me that I'm not
Do you, enjoy what you do?
If not, just stop - don't stay there and rot
You got soul…
You got soul…
I said get, get, get on down
I said get-get-get on down
I said get, get, get on down
I said get-get-get on down
Hey everybody, take a look at me
I've got street credibility
I may not have a job, but I have a good time
With the boys that I meet, "down on the line"
I said, I don't need you (I don't need you)
So you don't approve, well who asked you to? - Hey
Hey jerk, you work (hey jerk, you work)
This boy's got better things to do - hell…
I ain't never gonna work, get down in the dirt
I choose to cruise
Gonna live my life, sharp as a knife
I've found my groove, and I just can't lose
A.1. style, from head to toe
Cool cat flash, gonna let you know
I'm a soul boy, I'm a dole boy
Take pleasure in leisure, I believe in joy
Wham, bam - I am, a man
Job or no job, you can't tell me that I'm not
Do you, enjoy what you do?
If not, just stop - don't stay there and rot
Party nights, and neon lights
We hit the floors, we hit the heights
Dancing shoes, and pretty girls
Boys in leather, kiss girls in pearls
Hot-damn, everybody let's play
So they promised you a good job - no way (no way)
One, two, three, rap
C'mon everybody, don't need this crap (don't need this crap)
Wham, bam - I am, a man
Job or no job, you can't tell me that I'm not
Do you, enjoy what you do?
If not, just stop - don't stay there and rot
If you're a pub man, or a club man
Maybe a jet black guy, with a hip hi-fi
A white cool cat, with a trilby hat
Maybe leather and studs, is where you're at
Make the most, of every day
Don't let hard times, stand in your way
Give a Wham, give a bam, but don't give a damn
Cos the benefit gang, are gonna pay
Now reach up high, and touch your soul
The boys from Wham, will help you reach that goal
It's gonna break your mama's heart (so sad)
It's gonna break your daddy's heart (too bad)
But you'll throw the dice, and take my advice
Because I know, that you're smart
Can you dig this thing? (yeah)
Are you gonna get down? (yeah)
Say Wham (Wham)
Say bam (bam)
Wham, bam - I am, a man
Job or no job, you can't tell me that I'm not
Do you, enjoy what you do?
If not, just stop - don't stay there and rot
[x3]
Do you want to work? (no)
Are you gonna have fun? (yeah)
Do you wanna be a jerk? (no)
Are you gonna stay young? (yeah)
Everybody say Wham (Wham)
Say bam (bam)
Everybody say Wham (Wham)
Say Wham-bam (Wham-bam)
Can you dig this thing? (can you dig this thing)
Are you gonna get down (down - down)
Say one, two, three, rap
C'mon everybody, don't need this crap (don't need this crap)
Enjoy what you do… (enjoy what you do) [x4]
[x2]
Everybody say Wham (Wham)
Say bam (bam)
Everybody say Wham (Wham)
Say Wham-bam (Wham-bam)
Enjoy what you do… [x4]
[x2]
Enjoy what you do… (enjoy what you do)
Enjoy what you do… (enjoy what you do)
Enjoy what you do… (enjoy what you do)
Enjoy what you do… (enjoy what you do) - Hudba
I don't care what people say... George may have been the lead singer, but the friendship and goofiness of George AND Andrew made wham!! I love both of them, they are both the main stars of wham!! (Not just George) This is one of my fave music videos!! Shows the fun in both of them!! ❤
andrew literally made wham of course he's huge
Agree
Yes but George Michael was a super talent. I love Andrew’s loyalty though.
Andrew was a passenger........ zero output from him since Wham......
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaaa4151 he participated in most of songwriting with geroge. andrew was the one who got George of out his comfort zone and to express his talents even more. without the support and loyalty from andrew wham wouldnt be here today.
One of their most underrated hits. RIP George Michael.
Allen Quinn H&M add will make it regain popularity, don't worry.
What. 😃
I do agree! Regards from Brazil
💯💯💯💕💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶
This was a massive hit here in Holland! Underrated? No,maybe a bit under the radar after all these hits.
Wham documentary brought me here . Never realized how great of a friend Andrew was to George Michael
The best of friends
Same, i didn’t even really know them that much only from the song last Christmas, until my music teacher made us watch the documentary😊 Know I just love their music and songs
Rip 🪦 George Michael
🎉 June 1982.... WHAM rap....l loved this back in the day. This was when rap was fun and clean. Rest in Peace my dear friend George. We will rap together again soon.... retro greetings from coastal Mississippi
RIP. You will be incredibly missed.
Alex Daniel just found out!!! RIP
1980s
H&M did something well. We miss you George!
And I keep that from this song "Do you, enjoy what you do? If not, just stop - don't stay there and rot"
Ikr! I'm so glad h&m introduced me to this song
Same I only found this song because of h+m
I was at this exact spot as I read that.
I was so happy when I heard it on the commercial, I screamed the lyrics and scared my parents with it 💫
RIP George Michael (June 25, 1963 - December 25, 2016), aged 53
You will be remembered as a legend.
Really sad 😢 miss his live gigs. Only saw him twice but I thought I’d grow old with him
Andrew is criminally cute in this
Rest In Peace, George Michael. 😢❤️
GM was a pioneer rapper. WHat can't this man do. What a talent
He's the whole package!
RIP George Michael
leg horn preach it babe.
Exactly!!! Different genres, always evolving as a songwriter. Amazingly talented!!!
At the time this was released in 1982, rap was almost exclusively an American thing. Very few British groups incorporated rap into their songs back in the early 80's, the only other I can think of is The Clash with The Magnificent Seven.
This song is away ahead of its time
All George Michael songs are ahead of its time
I loved this song. My aunt and I used to watch the VHS of Wham all the time. I still have it
I had the vhs too loved it in the 80s
That's great to know👍
Love you bro good that ya like this
@@josecuevassena8080 Love you also friend
@@raymondsolisjr.1262 It was awesome. We must have watched it like 20 times lol
I never understood why George Michael hated his Wham songs when he went solo. They are catchy and clever written with a little bit cynicism. I love all the Wham songs and also love his solo stuff.
me neither
He was actually a good rapper!
heck..I didn't know that he was the one rapping on this song.
I always loved this song when I heard it in the 80s.
ladymay30 Yes I agree!
Did he hate them? I always heard him talk about growing out of them, which is a bit different.
He didn't hate the Wham! songs. They just couldn't see how they could continue with Wham! in adult form.
I always felt sorry for Andrew because it was obvious George was doing all the work both lyrically and vocally and he seemed to be his sidekick just going along for the ride :)
They should make a musical based on Wham songs
That’s actually a really good idea!
@@kazokee4024 Yes but keep in mind that whomever oversees George's Estate has the final say so. I don't know who owns his Catalogue. Also although Andrew didn't write as many Songs as George did, he too would have to be asked. He was a great guy but in many ways he was to Wham what John Oates was to Hall & Oates (The Second Banana).
called "wham! the musical"
Omg yesss 😆😂
Or a movie
George Michael was so bold and brave, and its showed perfectly in this video. He truly turned from a teenage icon who grew into a pop legend. I will never forget that man ever. He will always be in my heart for what he did via music.
George had one of the best glow up in pop music history. he mightnt have liked all of wham songs but i do not believe for one minute that he hated wham because that means he hated andy as well and i dont think that is true. he might have grew out of the teenage boy that we see in this music video and went on to become one of the biggest pop stars of all time. so sad that he was taken too soon.
So true. Thanks Eloise.
@@BettyMareeHOHCountry I've heard him joke about looking ugly in this, but he always thought that about himself, It is an amazing song, that laugh from George, when Andy's jacket lands on his face is superb.
Andrew pushed him!
Yep, he was ahead of his time, that’s for certain.
Back when most people didn't even know what rap was we already had Wham Rap! Love it. Miss George everyday! Only his true fans would understand the heartache!
Agreed
For these Brit boys to be writing this in 81'-82' is serious talent since rap was still new.
1:05 When the song is so good you didn't even notice their shoes.
oh i did notice them, they're really fucking awesome
I'm crying 😂😂😂😂
HAIRCUT i did (but don't worry that doseon't mean i don't like this song)
80s my man 80s!! you only know if you lived it!
WTF? Well spotted!
Born in the 70s and just watched the documentary...saw the wham rap and pure nostalgia of dancing to this song with my sis ❤🎉this song can still make me dance😅
I’m 14 and I’m crushing on teenage George. It’s so sad that he’s gone 😭😢❤️
Same

You *know* you weren't his type, right?
Same
A LOT of girls, crushed on him in the 80's, including me, for sure! In the 90's when we found out he was gay.... We loved him even mire. Rest in bliss Micheal... In our hearts forever💕💕💕
andrew ridgeley looked absolutely amazing here! my goodness
This captures the essence of Britain in the 80's, a real trip down memory lane, how things have changed. RIP Mr Panayiotou.
I LOVE George's giggle at 1:23. So spontaneous!😄😍
To wind people up I always put George Michael as the greatest rapper of all time. Tupac and Eminem were 8/9 years old when this was released.....therefore George Michael is a pioneer 😂
Mispronouncing band names riles them up more, i like to pronounce Depeche mode as Deh-peachy mod.
Blondie was the first female rapper!
Haha love it Good on you
Corny
You can not be serious?!
RIP beautiful soul!
1:22 So Funny, Andrew was not expecting that.....George is laughing at him.
they were absolutely adorable
All 3 of them laugh 😆 laugh
Lol, so cute
I love Andrews happy face
😂😂😂
Such an awesome decade the 80's! If I had the chance to be stuck in the 80's for the next 1000 years I would be there in a heartbeat!
Same💗💗
Take me with you ❤
Yup, me too. 🙋♀️✌️
Oh yes. I'm so glad I lived through it and would go back again in a heartbeat
Yep. 1980-1989 was the best decade to be alive
Andrew looked so cute in this ! 2:23
He did!! ❤
The songwriting and music production on this was quite an achievement for young teenagers. Very catchy song that was under rated by many critics.
Those 80s men ... They could rock the most absurd clothes and dancing styles and they'd still be hot as hell. A special kind, never to be seen again. Time machine please.
It's coming around again in 2020…
Not always, it's just George Michael unfortunately. Go look at Flock of Seagulls for the alternative.
What’s absurd about jeans and leather jacket?
@@crnkmnky With who?
@@jay1970 look at their shoes 😂
I love the video! Andrew and George dancing always brought me much joy. 😀
First time hearing wham rap it’s on my list for listening to songs everyday love George Michael I fell in love with him. ❤😊⭐️😇🎖️🌟❤❤
Rest in peace George Michael. You will forever be a legend.
My REBEL years! And guess what? I did not settle for a job that I did not love. Never sit there and ROT!
***** oh, me too! "Don't stay there and rot" was my motto in life. Still is. Also, C'est La Vie by Robbie Nevil
"Gotta job that is ok
But they got me working night and day Punching in, punching out,
Is this really what life is about?"
i'm rotting dammit!
You're Hilarious! :-)
Good on yer Girl. Give a Wham, give a Bam.
MaghoxFr, You were not listening properly in those days.
I, if it is any better, at least enjoy what I do.
Still rocks in 2022 !
This is still far beautiful than most songs of today. Lover of 80s music...
"You can dig your grave I'm staying young" 😭
Take care of your life
Soph it’s great to have fun believe me stay young but don’t take after George Michael like ima dude but just google his careless whisper photo shoot pictures absolutely a beautiful man and then google pictures from 2014 total transformation don’t do to many drugs and don’t drink Too much alcohol
Tried it... Worked for a while..
Live life to your fullest and don't let ANYONE take your youth years by lying and making your life miserable. Trust.
omg theyre so young here 💖
I know, where the heck did time go! We are not getting younger ourselves!
I love the way that the line "Get a job or get out of this house" was what George's father said to him, more or less, when he and Andrew were trying to get a record deal. His dad said "get a job or a recording deal within 6 months or get out of this house." Rotten thing to dsy to your 17 year old son who was trying to start his career. It must've felt so good when George put that line in!
2.18 we get the voice and glimpse of the future. Even on Listen without P and Patience etc we here that passion. He never really changed.
George Michael was my teacher. He gave me courage.
Thanks for the music, George. Fly high--carefree, young and handsome...
This is RAP 💙
This is a timeless song. such words with meaning
I had the honour of seeing this man live twice! I am only 24 and he is my idol. He got me through the hardest times and gave me the confidence to come out. Miss you always George ♡
My extreme George Michael fan cousin would be very jealous of you, she is 24 now lol
You lucky thing!!! ❤
After the miserable life and early death he had you would have been much better not following in his footsteps.
@@uv77mc85 He was miserable because he was alone, he needed more emotional support 😢
@@TheStepmonkey He wasn't alone. He always had someone close to him. Try being alone for years at a time.
I saw them live in LA in '85, great concert! So glad I have that memory. Also saw George solo in '88. RIP. 😟
Hi Deborah
I am a 36 year old disabled man and I have not had a job since 2012 and by George I am damn proud of it!
The song is almost 40 years old now, though.
"Behold the outpouring of this talent!" I would say.
George Michael was a VERY attractive man
too bad he was gay.

If only unemployment was really this fun! 😂🎉
Employment wouldn't be fun without indulging on all the things that are provided by people with jobs. ☺
he may have been a wheeler dealer lol
It used to be easy: you could just claim money without proving you were looking for work.
where's the problem: money is made out of thin air (partwise)
It is!!
George Michael - what a legend. A man who could write catchy, infectious, upbeat and positive music and bring so much joy into peoples's lives with his songs. He is sadly no longer with us, but his music lives on, still bringing a smile to millions of people. God bless the man.
I’m 12, my mum LOVES the 80s and so do i, i know every single word of this and some others 🙏🏻😂
You and your mom have great taste 👍
This is the coolest rap song with a great message that ppl can relate to even today. I love the outfits, the dancing, and whole idea behind the video. He was way ahead of his time... a true pioneer.
RIP George Michael, my favourite Wham song and the proper DHSS version
Another reminder that I got to grow up in the greatest decade ever! I will forever be grateful for that experience and the memories.
Andrew and George were so cute at the start of their career. 🥰 I see a lot of indie artists getting tons of inspiration from them too. This song sounds like it was produced in our modern era.
I needed to watch this George Michael video to try and cheer myself up from this sad news. He has left such a legacy. RIP George Michael.
I wish that, today's "superstars" would have % 1 of the talent, that George Michael has. That would make something better.
ladymay30 George was one in a lifetime nobody can follow his talent or his goodness as a man Andrew is close behind they are both great people and kind souls
and David Austin is doing his best to fulfill George'swishes it must be a struggle I pray for peace for his loved ones
How it all started, still a great song!
George Michael should have done acting too, he is so elegant and has perfect timing and facial expression.
bought this in 1982 never thought george would be so good in years to come
Of all of the tragic deaths in the music world in 2016, George Michael hurts me the most.
still sounds fresh when I first heard it in the 80s
RIP George Michael from Japan. この曲大好きです!!めちゃくちゃカッコイイ!!!
I thought this was going to be cringy. This was actually pretty good.
I thought the same thing at first. But it really was catchy...not bad at all.
One of my coworkers into rap at a previous job said this was one of his favorites. He then said something I think every potential rapper could stand to hear: "It's not about portraying an image or having to fit into one. It's about making good rhymes and setting them to a catchy beat. Nothing else matters beyond that."
Dave Teves why would wham ever be cringey? lol.
i say the same thing!!!! i hate when people say that word its so annoying its like they dont know what it means lol
Dave Teves This is exceptionally cringey. I'm sure George looked back on this in his later years and cringed hard. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but to say this isn't cringey makes me wonder what exactly do you find cringey?? If not this, then what???
Even though this wasn't released in the states as a single the radio stations played it alot especially Washington DC. Stations.
0:47 - love the way he knocks on the door to the beat
Andrew was gorgeous. And George too of course.
"Wham Bam i am a man" was the only lyric i remembered during my search. Havent heard this song in over 30 years. RIP George Michael.
Maybe the most under appreciated bass groove in the history of music.
By Deon Estus ! 🙂 🎸 ...RIP.
George had every teenage boy in my neighborhood rockin the tail (the back of his hair), the white T, the cuffed up rolled up slightly jeans and the white ballerina looking slip ons and I live in Astoria, Queens in NYC that is how far this man's influence reached during the amazing early 80s 🤩😂
i miss you george michael died on christmas day rest in peace i had the biggest crush on him
They were such good looking guys. RIP GEORGE!
I love this song I’m 16 and I’ve always loved George Michaels songs this one and careless whispers and faster love are my favourite 🤩
You just knew George Michael would be huge, so talented
Dialogue 1:25 - 1:38
George: 195815 words.
Andrew: -
So maybe its a monologue, dont you find
His innocent face makes me even sadder
aww, don't be Sad think of this he loved his time in WHAM! Officially Carli he left us this to have him forever I know its devastating losing him I will never get over it but I hold on to the music for comfort
and his solo music from my childhood I grew to really love him 6 months before we lost him so it was a hard thing but I cling to his music and his memory
@@nikolayskvotsov3868 The entertainment industry is already a freemason invention.
I understand though i too look at him sometimes in WHAM! and think how did you die at 53 how did we get from there to here ?
I watched him in 1988 at 3 years old way back then i would never have dreamed we would be mourning him today
2:05 - "But when you shake your ass, they notice fast: some mistakes are built to last".

"Hey Everybody, take a look at me, I've got street cred-i-bil-i-ty" is probably the greatest couplet in Rap history: Grandmaster Flash himself said that.
I listen to this almost every day, it's too good.
I really don't understand why people hate on Andrew so much. If you listen to his solo record, he obviously has talent on vocals and guitar, and just because his contributions weren't as "up front" as George's, that doesn't make them any less valuable.
I know. People are nasty and wrong in what they say
I always thought Andrew was a cool guy in WHAM!
I just realized that both this song and Fastlove were about living life to the fullest and just focusing on being happy, regardless of society's judgements. I think that's such an amazing mantra. George Michael was truly inspiring, I'm utterly devastated that his wonderful life had to be cut short. :..(
HOW ON EARTH DO YOU NOT LIKE THIS SONG?!?!?
i’m only 11 yet I really, really love Wham! I am so sad that I wasn’t a kid in the 1980s. 😢

@@HDAviationFilms I'll be old then!
I was a teen in the 80's, I have a lot of fun memories but remember we didn't have cell phones and the internet was very basic and mainly for the business peeps, enjoy where you are honey bun!
Every once and a while I wish I was a teen in the 80s and the 90s.
I guess I just don't care for the culture these days, it's so damn toxic, and I just don't care for the music.
But I'm still fortunate being a kid of the 2000s regardless. I got the runoff from the 90s! VHS tapes were still a thing when I was a kid, and CRTs were still commonplace.
Thanks to covid, I can finally relate to this song
Wham! (George Michael) is one of the great British singers who entertained and impressed people around the world with songs!
His singing ability, voice volume, expressive ability and expression that can be freely changed depending on the song.
Overall, George Michael is no exaggeration to say "the world's best vocalist."
