a 3S LiPo might be a bit much for prolonged use, but 2S LiHV gives it a tiny boost at full charge and I've never seen any ESC from Traxxas that didn't like the right cell count but as LiHV packs.

Traxxas slash 4x4 is trash there is nothing heavy duty about it the esc has glitches and delays and me and my friend bought one each and both our drive shafts broke the first time we drove them without jumps

First traxxas I ever bought that's a piece of trash don't waste your money. It's garbage. It's slow as hell.
