The SRS99 can take the hat off an Elite at 2000 yards. The M99 Stanchion can take the Elite off an Elite's boots at 4000 yards.
Probably 8000 yards 😂
and they ain’t cheap
Madness!
Don't you mean banish to the shadow realms
Can dematerialize an elite at 4 miles
“You shot an enemy soldier with an anti-tank rifle.”
“No, I shot his radio with an anti-tank rifle. It overpenetrated and hit him after.”
“Oh well that’s okay then.”
You'd think that this would only apply to human enemies. Being mad and taking action against a soldier who used an anti-materiel weapon on the personnel of a faction that happily melts cities full of civvies for a religious high sounds kind of dumb, all things considered.

Ah yes, the Stanchion- the rifle that basically says bleep you, the four guys behind you, your cover, the neighbor's dog, the truck that's driving by, and my shoulder.
Not the shoulder, this thing has very low recoil for a weapon of its power.

I've fired a .50 cal that had a tank break, and it still destroys the shoulder. Can't imagine how bad the M99 hurts.
The M99 Stanchion, because the UNSC took the term 'You're going to Brazil' to heart
The micro-gauss cannon. If only we could actually use it in game. Definitely not in normal multiplayer, but for campaign and custom games it would be great.
Sniper headshots are one shot one kill anyways so is rail gun I don't see a problem with having it in multiplayer just people with no skill complain

@@stephenzavatski8016 This. If you want the super sniper, you can't move quickly lol
I've always wanted this weapon to make it to Halo games.
However it clashes too much with the SRS99 Sniper Rifle, in that both are anti-materiel weapons used in an anti-personnel role.
Unless its anti-materiel/vehicle aspect is severely emphasized and a charge up system is used to differentiate it from the more conventional Sniper, it makes little sense to having 2 systems that effectively work the same way.
I am all for weapon variety, even if it duplicates sandbox items, but only if it is not duplicated within the same faction (unless its a special case, as was the H2 Sniper Rifle at the side of the H4/5 Sniper Rifle for sentimental reasons)
@@stephenzavatski8016 yeah sounds perfect actually
Just picture it folks, A game with the vibe of Modern Warfare set during the height of the Insurrection, You could have a night mission as an ODST with the M99 where you deploy via Pelican jump onto a building really far away and then use drones and thermals to fire through multiple buildings and objects to eliminate targets.
yo... being able to finally use those MA5K and M6J Carbines that were only mentioned and shown on the books would be cool too,
This literally happened in the Contact Harvest book.
Consider Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard

It is possible to make a call of duty type game in the halo universe using ODST as the main character.
In fact, I would love to play it.

Yet another small feature from the HW part of the Halo universe that could inspire entire missions if implemented into the main Halo story. I can't wait to see the SOF show up, the potential for gameplay is ridiculous.

Proably my favorite Halo Gun, the design is sick.
Playing with it in Fallout 4. Mods are great and specially the ones that are so well done
In the case of 50 BMG I agree that the near miss is almost certainly a myth however given the description of what the stanchion does on target it's reasonable to me that they may be insinuating that the impact could create enough of a shock or for that matter throw enough shrapnel to be deadly to the nearby target if they are close enough to the impact.
I mean a near miss from a hypersonic projectile would have a sonic boom, meaning at the minimum it could rupture your ear drums at a near miss unless you're wearing some serious ear pro
If we had a Halo RPG i would love for this to be one of the guns we can unlock or something.
I'm still so in love with this since the start, you're like "gun jesus" but for halo 😁
I love the fact that the Stanchion made another appearance in Silent Storm where John and blue team (including A.J. Johnson) were using them in zero g to board and destroy Covenant vessels. It went onto further describe it's lethality against Covenant targets.
On the near-miss problem, since the tungsten slug is traveling at hypersonic speeds, it is bound to have a bow shock around the bullet. I think no matter how aerodynamic the bullet is, if it is traveling at speeds > Mach 5 there is a bow shock that may inflict damage on nearby enemies in its wake.
The .50bmg doesn't have enough velocity for the shock wave to be lethal. But for a projectile moving at the hypersonics, Johnson's round probably took less than a second from his position to the target. Even a blunt nose wouldn't have slowed the round enough for a non lethal shock. Plus the Soviet Union, and to a good extent the US, have done research into weaponizing shockwaves by using aircraft. Russia built a purpose made aircraft for the idea and the US uses the B-1B at low attitude and high speed to scare bad guys.
Still very likely not nearly powerful enough of a shockwave to inflict actual damage to a target on a near-miss.
...and probably a sick (but surpassingly rare) double sonic boom. So far, only a reentering Space Shuttle has achieved the airspeed necessary for the phenomenon.
@@Gyrfalcon312 The bullet was described to be shot at 15km/s, over double that of most orbital velocities, so I’d think the slug would also exhibit a double sonic boom.
@@LDSG_A_Team Your ear drums and possibly the splitting headache from the sonic boom wouldn't be thanking you for surviving that one .
this is my dream weapon to be added into any halo game, just how cool it looks, the lore of it's usage and ridiculousness of it is just great.
I'm wondering what this thing would do to a Scarab. It could probably penetrate the armour so how much damage would it do to the colony?. If a shot was placed at a joint, assuming it penetrates, how much would it slow it down? If it could slow it down or mobility kill it this would be a good weapon to slow covenant assaults by limiting the Scarab from kilometers away. I assume a Hunter would recreate that scene with Durge from the 2003 Clone Wars cartoons lol.
very probable considering how powerful weapon it is
Scarabs have thick starship-grade armor. It probably wouldn't pierce.
@@bable6314 Only the top of the limbs and hull have the starship armour. Also the best 90mm tank shell ever developed on earth has around 11.2 inches of penetration on steel. If a Scorpion can damage the limbs with a 90mm gun even if the shell has twice the penetration as our best tank shell that is ~23 inches of penetration. Compared to the M99's 12 inches of titanium penetration the odds don't seem so bad.
@@bable6314 maybe it would or maybe It wouldn't

Imagine what Linda could do with a Stanchion.
That would be terrifying. because she has a lot of experience of using Sniper Rifles in the past just by training.

For real
I'd love to see this against the flood. Too bad we'll probably never see dynamic injuries in the halo games. It'd be amazing to see an elite's torso be taken off. Or a combat form explode
I mean the flood did technically have dynamic injuries in Halo 2 and 3, you could shoot their arms off, completely destroy their bodies and in Halo 3 you could shoot some other parts of combat forms off, like the head of the infected elite
bold of you to assume we'll see the flood again
@@azurehorizon6097 I have no idea how I forgot about that.
With new tech we've gotten after the war this would be a great weapon to retro fit for Spartans.
Halo Wars games have tons of great stuff but neglected due to " reasons" Anyway! The Stanchion is among my top 3 favorite UNSC weapons alongside SAW and DMR/ Bandit. The big S is a friggin metal slugging beast! And I NEED it in H.I !/ Halo FPs games
Hopefully Tatanka has more weapon options and maybe even some weapon modularity.
I do know that there have been well documented cases from the “gunpowder age” where soldiers will die from a near miss by a cannonball with seemingly no external injuries. I actually watched a show where they broke this down and how it happened but I can’t remember where I saw it. But that is the only case I can think of where a near miss by a projectile will kill
Gunpowder age cannonballs we’re not super aerodynamic so they created shockwaves and turbulent air. Modern bullets and shells do not though
I remember one talking about splintering and shrapnel but never the shockwave of the flight.
Technically a round dose create a low pressure/vacuum area behind it. scaled up or higher speed will increase that effect. Great example is a sabo round going through a tank. The vacuum it creates will suck anything inside out the hole. But that's way above 50cal.
Two things I can think of when you talk about this M99.
1) That to get a recol-less would be a trick. But I believe it could be done with offset gyroscopes. Couple at 45° or computer controlled angles. That doesn't ground out the barrel or short any coils. Would stop that recoil and depending on how much mass is being used. Could even help with holding it (see videos of people holding spinning weights at length).
2) Round if you use a smart/programmable material. That Could change shape at distance traveled or proximity. We have this now. I'd hate to see what 100 plus years of RND or a zero g dark site could come up with.
Great video as usual!
small nitpick, though: the anti-insurrectionist operation from the opening of "Contact Harvest" took place on the world of Tribute, an inner colony world in the epsilon eridani system.
This thing should honestly be standard-issue for Spartans at this point. You could rig it up to be powered by Mjolnir, and some of the sensor systems and helmet attachments for the Gen-3 armor might be good enough to run the weapon at its full potential without the need for a portable computer or support drones. If Mjolnir can support an AI, you can bet that it has enough computing power to accurately and instantly predict the exact trajectory and effect of the rounds for this weapon.
Now imagine how much more effective this thing would be in Linda's hands, especially if they can charge the dang thing a lot faster with some of the more recent tech
It's still 2 meters long. Yes a Spartan could probably shoulder fire it but it would probably be akward as hell to use (take a 2 meter long stick and shoulder it like a rifle and try to take into an enclosed space)
Now this makes me wonder what would happen if someone was direct impacted by a MAC round

Johnson turns the Geneva Convention into the Geneva Suggestion.
Literally could not be more pleased to see that you did this after our talk, good stuff man!
I love how this thing looks in Infinite. I think it would’ve been super fun if equipping the weapon model and killing an enemy with it made the ragdoll significantly stronger. I know they’d have to change a lot of stuff, but that’d be so fun.
If the unsc invested more in gauss weapons, where Spartans carried a semi auto Gauss rifle, the covenant wouldn’t have even landed on Reach.
Landed ? Shit the UNSC would have murder them at the first contact meeting on Harvest.
Then again the Nova Bomb was designed to be used in naval combat against fleets. The Covenant wouldn't have gotten past Harvest.
A recoilless rifle usually is a type of rocket launcher, the gases exiting from the back of the tube is what make it "recoilless", but the m99 has a stock soooo i don't know how that works
two things first is that you have to be careful around tanks when they are firing you also have to be cautious around battleship turrets when they fire because of the blast wave same reasons why you have a safe blast radius around explosions
Same reason you don't have your thumb on the cylinder gap of a revolver
I don’t understand why the UNSC never designed a stanction hmg for Spartans to use that draws power from the mjoinier fusion pack. Imagine an automatic stanction on a Spartan like Jorge. Absolutely terrifying.
I love demolition ranch and it’s great he keeps popping up on your channel

I'm actually surprised the UNSC follows the Geneva convention in the far flung future, is it UEG law at this point? I really liked this gun in Halo Wars 2. Then again, does the convention apply to the Covvenant?
Edit: you answered that haha.
Looking at the ODST Sniper gear, I can justify the Halo Wars Sniper or marines wearing a exosuit in their armor, and with Johmson, he is a SPARTAN I after all.
UNSC supposedly follows Geneva convention
Also unsc
*drops a nuke on a population center when they find insurrectionists*
@@prompthorizon_12 That and several other strategic decisions are why i'm skeprtical the UNSC actually follows it beyond on paper. (i'm of the stance that they shouldn't have to, at least when the Covenant came knocking, the Covenant don't even know what that is) Though that decision was not lightly taken. Not saying it's right, but the UNSC vs Insurrection war isn't as black and white as most think.
2 things to note about this weapon's fesibility, a .21 cal sabot dart at just under 50000 fps would likley disintegrate when it strikes something solid, tungsten is hard but not indestructible, and would probably shatter. Secondly pointed nose bullets deviate in their trajectory substantially when passing though anything denser than air, so predicting it's path of flight through solid targets would be near impossible.
Just as an additional note, conventional firearms not working in a vaccum is a myth, gunpowder does not require atmospheric oxygen to burn.
I actually forgot to mention too, Bullets don't need to be pointy to move that fast. All bullets can be accelerated to the same speeds, aerodynamics only effect the bullet's retained speed down range, as all bullet acceleration is occurring only in the barrel not in the air like a plane.
2:08 that's a myth IRL that supposly got started because a commander got tired of his shoulder wasting their machine gun ammo of infantry. In fact it's Easly disproven by the fact tithe US still straps .50 cals to everything for mainly ani-infantry work.
How the hell we we didn't get this in Infinite with it's open world is beyond me.... perfect reason to bring this beast into a first person Halo
Even back in Halo 2 or 3 instead of Johnson running around with a sniper or laser he should have been throwing this thing around
Love Matt from demo ranch. Funny you brought him up in this. Great vid 00.
I wonder what this weapon would do to a Spartan, assuming they had no plot armor
Good vid, but a minor correction: There's no ban in the Laws of War (which encompasses things like the GCs, Hague Conventions, and more) against using AMRs nor equivalently punchy HMGs nor anything else with more oomph against dismounted infantry, thus there's no need for a loophole like shooting at a grunt's kit.
That's a common myth that usually centers around the M2HB HMG (there's a similar myth about being a war crime to shoot at airborne troops with a .50cal).
So the M99 should be completely fair to use against infantry as much as, say, the M82 AMR in real life (and it commonly is used against infantry by snipers).
It's a very easy myth to stumble across, though, and it has been believed even by some military servicemembers, much less civilians unlikely to use such a weapon. So don't feel too bad about it. Great content and I look forward to more. :)
At this point I am convinced that someone in higher command made that shit up to try to save some money on ammo lol.
@@John2r1 It is... I well say no more under threat of death (this is a joke for legal reasons)
From what I've seen. Its not illegal in current times to use anti-material rounds against people. Its just overkill in most cases
Iirc (for the love of the forerunners don't quote me) the myth was an excuse used to stop soldiers from wasting anti materiel munitions
They need to come up with lots more cool weapons like this. Maybe a spartan rifle. thanks for an awesome video.
I think a near-miss with the Stanchion could be lethal, IF the round hit a nearby wall or the ground which could cause some nasty spalling.
The weapon I most want in one of the shooters.
On the subject of recoil - fit the weapon with a counterweight, so when the small bullet is accelerated forwards, a much larger and heavier block of metal is pushed backwards against a spring.
Interesting 🤔
but id imagine that block would have to be pretty heavy or moving VERY quickly
This weapon would be the perfect rail gun replacement in infinite.
Why not both
Damn, seeing Johnson on that cover brings back good memories
I need this in a shooter
Little known fact this rifle fires yugioh cards, namely completed exodia. It does this so it can send the enemy to the shadow realm.
Eyyyy Demolition Ranch, good channel
Keep the good work bro
Well good thing the Geneva suggestion only applies to human combatants
Would love to see this as an actual weapon in the games, perhaps as a slow scope or a small charge to fire it? Maybe it could have the same anti vehicle properties as the Reach Sniper?
Linda-058: that thing is my baby
maybe near miss was meant like shot landed close to target and the resulting shrapnell etc could be deadly . also i think the production of this weapon ceased because of the appearance of the spartanlaser , and covenant armor being either to strong , so they need bigger mounted gauss cannons , or light enough that it could be dealt with the standart issiue sniper rifle.
This is very dependent on near miss location but if it is legitimately a very close miss sub 3 inches and near the ears or eyes it may create a pressure wave powerfull enough to do serious damage. In demo ranch example 1 .50 bmg isn't enough but the 70 bmg equivalent force may be
And I was just on a Lore & Theory binge
If you could tie it into the mjlinor armor power feed and Carry large amounts of that small ammo
I imagine how this would be used by sniper teams is that they would have to assemble the rifle on the spot because lugging it around would be completely impractical especially when you are trying not to be seen behind enemy lines, then when they need to escape they would dissasemble the rifle and go, or just take the bolt of the weapon, rendering it unable to fire, and leave the rest of the rifle there. Apparently SAS do the same thing when they bring snipers with them, they take the bolt out of the rifle and just leave it there while they escape, so they don't have to carry the extra weight (since the sniper is also carrying a standard assault rifle with him)
Ive been looking forward to this
you heard em boys and girls! it's the Geneva suggestion ! lock and load!
Big fan of your channel
10 pounds heavier than a Barrett M82...holy shit
Remember: It’s only a warcrime if you lose
A near miss lethal shot would need a round that would be tumbling. I'd love to see if someone could do the math on a round like that for its ballistic coefficient. .408 and. 375 CheyTac are known to having excellent ballistic coefficient. Current long range target shot record was just broken with .375 CheyTac out of an M200 Intervention.
Edit: I wonder near miss could include what would be considered as a bullet graze? Technically still a hit, but would tear flesh. So instead of hitting the main part of the body or limbs, I wonder what bullet graze would do, especially at hyper sonic velocities.
I agree that I believe a grazing shot is classified as a "near miss." With the forces at play that still could potentially take a limb off. And for sake of argument the environment also isn't taken into account. Shrapnel from any source has the potential to be lethal.
A graze the shockwave might push the wound open more. Could be nasty. But what does the damage that tears flesh is fluid dynamics. If that shock isn't on flesh you're probably gonna be fine. If it grazes your neck, or near important veins and arteries the shock MIGHT open or pinch them.
That round is so strong it'll tear through its target and almost none of the power will go through. It over-penetrates on a massive scale.
The only thing I can think of to justify the near miss thing is if the near miss is a nearby hit on something else, like say the wall behind the target. That much energy might throw something back on contact.
Maybe the near miss lethality is meaning the explosion landing near a target rather than passing by in the air. Like the gauss cannon. You don't need to get a direct hit, just near enough that a 5psi or greater shock wave from an impact hits your target
Now this kind of thing is what I have CZcams premium for
Wind down is a thing with 120mm tank main guns in the real world but that is for targetry on ranges and not against living targets as far as I'm aware.
Being generous to the statement "even a near miss can kill" it may be trying to (badly) say that shrapnel or spalling from a nearby impact could be lethal, rather than "sonic boom make you dead". Though I imagine there's going to be a pretty loud sonic boom as it zips past you, though probably not enough to damage anything substantial.
Though if a projectile going 19 kilometers a second did very closely zip past you (by my calculations that's fast enough to get from London to Edinburgh in around 34 seconds) you may just have a heart attack if you knew what it was.
If there is one weapon I want in a Halo Game, it's this gun
The lore does specify the projectile is a slug. Slugs aren't exactly aerodynamic irl... think more torpedo shape. I imagine the weapon is more or less brute forcing the projectile to its target velocity. Now velocity + shape is going to give you some interesting cavitation and heating effects you wouldn't see with traditional Spitzer style ammunition
I'd love to see a mod or fan game put this in, it'll one shot Hunters
I only heard of this rifle due to a Fallout 4 mod which adds most of plasma/ballistic armory of Halo
This rifle is explosively one of the most deadly weapons in Fallout 4 - Paladin Danse uses it with lethal efficiency
Hilariously the gun is nearly 2-3x larger than the Halo size.
UNSC made the Bloody Mess perk from Fallout into a gun
This my (hypersonic) boom stick!
A solid slug going that fast would actually deliver little energy on an organic body, poking a small, .21 caliber hole straight through almost like a laser. Energy is delivered or “dumped” into a target only when the target slows the projectile. The energy of the projectile after it passed through the target is energy that was not delivered to the target. Modern day hunters often choose expanding bullets such that the diameter roughly doubles once impacting an organic target, increasing drag and simultaneously damaging more tissue. If the projectile stops within the animal, that means all of the kinetic energy of the projectile has been absorbed, leading to devastating damage!to vital organs. Shooting an animal with a high velocity, non-expanding bullet which just passes through like a needle through tissue paper may still poke a hole in the vital organs, thus leading to hemorrhaging, but the animal may not even notice it’s been shot until internal bleeding catches up with it and it keels over, I know this is just video game lore, but it seems bizarre to me to me that they got the physics so wrong. Again: target still likely dead, but the vast majority of the kinetic energy of the projectile was delivered to the asphalt beyond the target, and without an expanding projectile, the target would absolutely not explode.
The Geneva convention is regarding treatment of POWs. The Hague convention restricts weapons. the primary restrictions on anti material rifles I am pretty sure was the St. Petersburg declaration. The latter would absolutely find the Needler, fuel rod gun and Spiker guns major violations.
Idk. Fuel rod would probably qualify as ordinance and be as fine as 40mm genades. Needler might fall under explosive rounds and is probably not ok. Spiker idk the part wrong with it but probably the same as why ballistic knives (probably) aren't allowed
So 54,000km/h? That's ridiculously fast & overkill for anti-personnel. Even with the most advance armour systems, it'll go right through like butter.
I think that was the original ideal.
@@John2r1
I'll be worried about overpenetration.
@@tristanbackup2536 I think that's why the UNSC uses HUD systems and targeting systems with the rifle.
Then again their standard "assault rifle" is actually a 7.62x51mm bullpup design light machine gun with a muzzle velocity of a modern .50cal rifle. As in the MA5 's muzzle velocity is 905m/s or 3,258 kph. And it's 750 to 900 rpm of automatic fire doesn't help much with keeping the weapon on target.
Of course we're talking about the sand military that nuked a planet because the planetary governor sided with the Insurrectionist.
I think the near miss myth came from the myth of a cannon ball killing someone without hitting them.
So far I've only gotten to use this in the Fallout 4 mod
