- Let's talk about 5 Honda/Acura models that are actually just rebadges of other manufacturer's models. So they aren't really Hondas...but are they any good? Today we'll be talking about Honda and Acuras as usual but also Isuzus, Chevys and Rovers oh my!!

I love how the Prologue is based on a GM platform, when the Saturn Vue (a GM product) had a Honda engine
It is not the first time the General screwed up , In Australia they never was ready for the unleaded phase of cars as they borrowed the Nissan RB30 motor to go into the VL Commodore . Even by today's standards it was one of the best cars ever produced.
idk whats weirder, the fact that most honda suvs are not actually hondas or the fact that honda partnered with two companies known for their cars self imploding
I couldn’t agree more 😂
Seen 2 Acura SLX throughout my lifetime thus far. One, back in the late 90s, elderly couple had one in the neighborhood. And most recent at HDAY 2024 in MD. My bud that works at a Honda Dealer told me about the Prologue. The Lot guy next door brought over with the Chevy New electric SUV and said “Same SUV.” 😅😅😅
That was announced when they were making those that they were guna use Chevy
I’ve never seen an Acura SLX, and wish I could find one 😂
Metallic navy blue and metallic dark green... I can only remember seeing 2 of them as well
I hate it when automakers discontinue affordable and fun compact cars in favour for overpriced EV SUVS
The market and demand says otherwise, so they’re going to put out more suvs
Because fuck small cars. We need big power cars to appease those who want something to make them feel superiority over others.
Especially those who have to compensate for having something small on them.
But in all seriousness i am sick of suvs and trucks. I do love trucks but they are way too big and bulky. Not even farmers want them and stick with their 90s trucks.
I want more affordable and fun cars that aren't full of gadgets i dont want and something that makes me feel i am in control of the car. Some of the safety features they can stay but still. I just want to have a car feel like a car
@@evandaymon8303preach! 💯
I drive a Hyundai Accent. It’s a fantastic vehicle! It’s comfortable, reliable and looks great.
I once drove a late 90s Ford Expedition once; I felt like I was driving a school bus every time, and it swayed like a hammock on curves. It was not good.
Yeah I dig my SLX. I paid $1,400 for that beast and it’s served me well for 5 years! The barn doors at the back are indeed very handy. 😊
$1400 dang thats a steal!!
Same, $1000 and a set of bigger tires and (I think lol) I've got one of the coolest things out on the trails here
A wild Hugie appears! When any weird Acura is mentioned you have a 6th sense for it lmao
I work for a honda dealer and I was told by a sales guy that they have been selling the Prologue at a loss. We only made a profit on the 1st one we sold. The other techs and myself are dreading working working on these cars. We only have one lift that can lift this heavy beast, and its in a whole other building.
If there's the prologue, where's the epilogue?
ICE ICE baby... no EV for this old guy. Besides all the obvious reasons, they don't come with a manual transmission.
Same
Manual is ditched for EVs since it has no use to extract power out of it with manual unlike a normal ICE. however some manufacturers are already experimenting with "simulated" manual transmissions for EVs. Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is one example, and Ford if I remember correctly has tried a "true"ish manual EV with the Mustang before as a concept. Like said before the theory for EVs to have manual transmissions is useless as they can make full power all the time from the moment you step on the accelerator unlike ICEs
As someone who works at a Honda dealer in Canada, and we HAVE a prologue; there is nothing in the interior that is Honda.
I’ve never used an infotainment system like that before, and the gear selector is on a stalk coming off the steering wheel. When the car is put in reverse, it’s just like a GM backup camera. All the door chimes and alert tones are GM. The key is EXACTLY THE SAME as the one from a Silverado.
EDIT: I didn’t even realize that you live in BC! I do as well, in the lower mainland. Which means you have 100% heard of the dealer I work for LOL
In that case...can I send all my Prologue customers with warranty issues to your dealer then? I dont wanna deal with them... 🤣
I didn’t know Acura made a SLX , Man I wish Honda would make a RWD V8 😭 also that Prologue part was hilarious 😂😂
They have a V8, but it's a marine engine :(
The second generation RL was supposed to get a V8 but it got cancelled at the last minute (along with the V10 NSX) due to the recession. We ended up with another V6 RL with sh-awd and, eventually, the hybrid NSX.
@@FinalVibeswow I did not know that 😮
3:42 Hey! I took that photo!!
acura lowkey needs to make another rugged suv
The Passport was a wonderful SUV fully loaded with leather and the Sunroof! Miss that Truck
Next thing they’re gonna tell me is the NSX was a rebadged Nissan !
the nsx is a honda whitch makes sense because honda own acura
@@FREEPALESTINEPLZPLZ you wouldn’t get it
Acura apprentice tech here, we've already had an Acura ZDX glitch out and become a Chevy Blazer EV 😅. The Honda/Acura line up of the Ultium platform technically have their own version of the digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen, but if the regular 12v battery is to fail or lose enough charge, the car will revert back to its GM counterpart electronically. We also have to order many of its parts from the nearby Cadillac dealership too as we can't order them directly. They also have some pretty bad build quality with air vents popping out and center consoles not being put together completely, as well as loose hardware from factory. It's not looking good so far 😅.
Omg thats hilarious! 😂😂
Honda / Acura’s interior looks WAY better than the Chevy Blazer EV.
Can't believe more Honda fans aren't subscribed to this channel. The videos are well done with subtle humor the viewer has to be paying attention to to get. Keep them coming.
Sleeping in there sleepers
@@tonybologna2019 There sleepers? Where sleepers?
Why is Honda always bent on working with GM? Toyota owns part of Subaru and Mazda, but Honda always seems to want to pair with GM and never any other Japanese brands.
I loved the 80's early 90's Isuzu commercials featuring their spokesperson Joe Isuzu
fun video. actually dig when automakers make lowkey (or not so lowkey) deals with other automakers to bring different vehicles to their lineup.
This was a really fun informative history video. I genuinely learned a lot!
I owned a 1995 Honda Passport about a decade ago. It had the 3.2L V6, 4wd, and a manual transmission. Fun fact: True, it was an Isuzu Rodeo with a Honda "H" on the grille, but it also had some GM parts under the hood. Those parts seriously *did* have the GM logo in the castings!
Yes! The Holden Jackaroo is such an Aussie name for a car! We also had the Holden Drover, which was a rebadged Suzuki Samurai/Sierra/Jimny! At the same time we had the Holden Scurry, which was a rebadged Suzuki Carry van. A lot of Isuzu's were also sold in Australia under the Holden (GM) brand in the 70's, 80's and 90's.
We also had a few rebadged Rovers in Australia that were actually Hondas. We had the Rover Quintet 5dr hatch, a rebadged 80's Honda Quint and the Rover 416i 5dr hatch, a rebadged 1st generation Honda/Acura Integra. Also, we had the Honda MDX, a rebadged 1st generation Acura MDX.
Now we just need Honda rebranding it's own cars for other countries/markerts.
Easy Invented Quick Example
Japan: Honda Pilot
Australia: Honda Kangaroo 💀
US: Honda Chief
Europe: Honda Navy
"John Davis approved". My man is a true MW fan...❤
The Isuzu Rodeo was a pretty good vehicle. I had one until an irresponsible driver rear ended me and destroyed mine. Loved it. It was reliable and fun to drive. Off road, it was a beast.
"jesus this looks like a pathfinder" had me dead😭
(car commercial from the early 80s)
(guy pitching a dodge shadow two door) "Here we have this model for $3700...and if we put a little decal on the hood it goes up $200" (covers the little decal on the hood) "wanna see the original again?"
I stumbled across this channel now o am binge watching all of his vehicle videos
Great job. Honda, your directions and canadian prices is making Honda fans look elsewhere.
womp womp
Acura should have revived the SLX as a full size SUV in the mid 2000s. Mdx is good but not that big
That new color is the only highlight of that car
I think your editing on this video was terrific lol
So, growing up, i had a gf whose mom had an 02 Rodeo and she had it for a few years before it fell apart. Around that time period ('05ish), i was super stoked for the new Pathfinder at the time because it was even boxier than ever. However, i knew of the passport/rodeo as mentioned and Nissan products and NEVER had i thought that the pre 05 Pathfinder and Passdeo looked similar**at all**
..... Until your sneaky-ass edit that made me do a double take @5:58 lol
Holy shit.
Bruh.
Younger me gave Honda/Isuzu a generous pass.
They might as well just skipped building the trucks all together and should have had Nissan build BOTH brands a Pathfinder to rebadge.
3:36 A buddy of mine bought an early '90s rodeo for parts a few years ago and we thought it was weird some of the Isuzu badges on it were replaced by a weird "P" logo. It turns out some of the Canadian models were sold as Passport Isuzu Rodeos, with Passport being a made-up GM brand alongside Asüna and Geo.
I remember all these commercials. nostalgia!
Nothing wrong with this as Toyota, gm, Ford, BMW and many others has and still doing. Even Maclaren road cars still use Nissan engine.
would love to see a video about all the accord type r and euro r variations
Yes!
Don’t forget about euro vs us accord body difference and the usdm accord being sold as a Honda inspire and a proton perdana
-8th gen usdm coupe owner
Yes love the Isuzu and other car company ads 😂😂😂😂😂
5:58 That’s a pathfinder 💀
I’ve seen a couple passports myself and I always knew it had to be a rebadged something just never knew it was a Isuzu
Also, aside of the Acura SLX, the Honda Horizon which is another example, this one however is a Japan-only model, and in Japan, the Isuzu Trooper is known as the Bighorn.
The isuzu suvs reminds of the toyota tamaraw fx
The EV rant is… tired… I don’t particularly want to buy one but the jabs in this video speak to a misplaced rage, not at EVs, but with car manufacturers who have been beating us enthusiasts senseless with boring, non-designed blobs for the past 20 years or so and dangling GR Corolla shaped carrots for us while threatening production halts if we dare question them.
Also it is called a powertrain in an EV, battery>controller>motor>geartrain>wheel
I have a 97 pathfinder se and the passport section was playing with my mind.
In Germany Honda Passport = Opel Frontera.
But using a reliable brand for selling Land Rovers (from which you should own at least 2 because one is always broken down) made my brain explode 😂
Gm owned Isuzu back then (and still do), it's just good ol' fashion corporate back scratching.
dammit i forgot to sub last few vids🤦🏽♂️, welp better late than never🤷🏽♂️✅. Proud 3rd &4th gem 💎 Prelude owner.
The 04-07 Saturn Vues had Honda's 3.5L V6, similar to the J35A5 in the 03-06 MDX's
Honda’s swan song with GM is actually the FCEV version if CRV
Any interest in making a video on the Pilot?
I drive a 2007 one right now. Thing is an absolute tank
I will at some point. First gen Pilots are great! 👍
I saw a imported Honda passport at a Kenny-u-pull in Ontario
i’m confused. are the new evs rwd or fwd?
FWD or AWD depending if you get the single motor or dual motor
@@AcuraAdvice your vid had some errors about the base single motor powering the front wheels or the rear wheels
I’d love to drive that SLX on a cross country trip..
Me too!
Never is a long time if you are young. But it passes rapidly, trust me.
Second generation, properly focused PHEVs, using solid state batteries will take over.
A person a town over had a Acura SLX and it still runs somehow.
Accura SLX song?
Seeing a Honda with 6 lug nuts from any era doesn't seem right to me
And now the passport is actually a Honda because it’s based off the Pilot
1:06 and 5:59 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Too bad Honda relied on models from very unreliable brands, like Rover, Isuzu and GM. Rover used models from Honda. But the own things Rover added to them made the cars also unreliable.
10:13 - Prologue and ZDX aren't rebadges. They look very little like the GMs, which themselves are not rebadges of each other. As you noted, they wear distinct sheetmetal. That means they changed more than the badge (as in the Isuzus or Rover examples).
honda could have literally just brought the EV Jazz/Fit from japan. the HRV is now the same size as the CRV but with a smaller engine.
on the crossroads/discovery: engine reliable, all the rest...dear god :D
Honda is extremely conservative. They were truly dragging their feet on making a SUV. Personally I like the older Honda Passport. I like a boxy rugged simple SUV.
As someone already mentioned, I’ve never seen an Acura SLX. They must have sold very minimal or didn’t last long on the roads…
You are wrong on the austin rover (rover 200/400 models ) wasn't rebranded rovers they was jointly developed by both companies
The SLX was vary rare even back in the day when new
SO there's a Blazer with a Honda badge?!?! JAYZUZ
I think i read somewhere that every car company was required to have at least 1 ev car in their lineup, so they borrowed gm's for the moment and bought honda time to make their own EV.
ACURA SLX sold as HONDA HORIZON in Japan
if i were to get a honda COUGH COUGH GM ev, i would pick the ZDX type S or the lyriq because they are ✨bougie✨
1:02 The correct pronunciation of Isuzu is "E-suzu"
I believe Australia pronounced the one you said, but generally it's not.
Edit: at 4:18 at least you said Isuzu correctly. Thank goodness.
I have always heard and said I-suzu up in Canada but once I heard E-suzu in the US commercials I knew the internet would get very upset if I didn't say it that way so I was making an effort to E-suzu but my Canadian pronounciation may have slipped out a few times
@@AcuraAdvice I didn't know it was a Canadian thing as well...But oh well, the latter pronunciation is better.
Thank fking God it's only a GM product but not a Ford.
I loved my trooper
We should have gotten the Honda Crossroad. It would have been a classic Honda. It probably would have been made an Acura at the time. Maybe it would have become the first Acura SLX.
Also, is the new Passport supposed to be an Explorer clone?
On the expressway, i need to really look to see if I'm about to pass a newer Passport or a fucking state cop.
No, all cars just look the same.

The Buick V8 was actually a good engine
Funny, I am driving the EV……really nice no complains.
Honda Land Rover? Those poor people
I have to admit that Honda had made quite oddball cars over time. Some of those cars we not seen in Australia like the Honda Ridgeline , Sure it is no Hilux or Ranger but it still could go up against the Kia Tasman .
The first generation MDX was pretty great in my opinion no it wasn't a body on frame heavy SUV but it was still pretty capable off-road and light years more efficient and better to drive than the trooper sorry I meant SLX
Their transmissions is what made them horrible. Every V6 Honda from that era had transmissions issues even the 4 cylinders like the Civic also had a bunch of issues
Girl really said "Stop having fun" so naturally
What does that mean?
@@jamesdrives993 Maybe naturally wasn't the word I was looking for. She talks to her kids like one would talk to an employee before they quit.
@@jeiku5041 Oh okay I understand now. Thanks for explaining.
Isuzu Rodeo? I prefer
Mysterious Utility Wizard
The first EV I'll drive is one that fits my lifestyle, ie one that lasts long enough to be my next 20 yr old hooptie.
They dont build cars to last that long anymore
I just realized Honda does suck at making 4wd vehicles, is my future Ridgeline a minivan??!?!?
Its a soccer mom SUV (Pilot)
@@AcuraAdvice European soccer or lame city league toddler soccer? 😭
Make video on Japanese tractor brands
Dont like ev's but that blazers entirior looks sick tho
Not gonna lie I did think the blazer interior looked kinda cool too, especially the climate vents!
Tbh my classmate Craig has an Isuzu trooper
Rovers use of Honda K Series engines isn’t really a rebadge… same with the Honda using the landrover engine
I dont remember talking about anything with a K series in this video. I was refering to the rover 800 series which is built on the acura legend chasis, though I wouldnt call it a direct rebadge since the body amd interior is unique. The Honda Crossroad is clearly a direct rebadge of the Land Rover Discovery though its not just sharing an engine
10:38 I thought it was based on the VW ID4 tbh
Btw, Rover is a completely different company, at the first rebadge car you kept repeating rover instead of Land Rover
dont they share the same parent company though?
Isuzu shouldn't rely on isuzuto sell cars I like Isuzus but they ruined their company through corporate saturation.
1:06 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The new GM Prologue is such a POS that we have all the ones that have been sold brought back with issues and just sitting on the lot 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
you forgot satern has a few honda motors in the vues!
Honda e pretty cool ev
The commercial just said “e”suzu and you keep saying /i/suzu. 😣
Its pronounced "i"susu where I'm from. I heard the "E" in the commercials when I was editing so I pronounced it both ways in the video , but either way I know someone in the pronounciation police in the comments is going to get upset 🤷♂️
God if you can't trust Honda who can you trust?
Buick motors
i think there is a time and place for ev's, but they are being marketed and priced wrong to be as successful as they could be. but that also has to do with safety requirements and peoples "needs" so boo👎🏻
the EV hate is kinda cringe and very confirmation bias-y on why you don't like them
Isuzu is owned by GM, so.... just saying.
