To the narrator of the video about the second to last story: Dude? The OP just said that he isn’t very sociable with a group of people and that is no reason for you to go off on him for wanting to leave. If I wasn’t sociable like the OP, I’d definitely do the same. So I’m on the OP’s side!

Get your head out of your @$$, Dumb@$$.
The father of the groom OP clearly has a mild form of social anxiety disorder. I would be on your side if the OP left during the wedding ceremony, but no, he left during the RECEPTION, as in the main event was DONE. He was clearly uncomfortable with the situation as a whole but he was able to tough it out until the ceremony ended. You need to start considering the view of the person who is uncomfortable with being in situations like that. What’s even more is that the OP kept his son informed that he would leave early AND that he TOLD his son that he was leaving. Where in that situation is the OP not showing consideration for his son? He didn’t interrupt ceremony, he didn’t yell out to everyone else and inform them that he was leaving, and he didn’t make a scene. He only told his son and the mother decided to go with him, that’s actually being very considerate given that he was uncomfortable with the situation in the first place and the mother decided to go so she wouldn’t have to drive alone.

I can see that the dad leaving the sons wedding isn’t really nice for the son as his parents isn’t there for the rest of his happy day, but at the end of the day the OP’s wife wanted to go home with him as she didn’t feel comfortable coming home with everyone else. Everyone just wants to be physically, mentally and emotionally safe. Story 1 is deeply concerning. Obviously I don't see the OP as the a-hole in this case, since trying to end an animal like that would likely elicit a similar response from me. But the bigger issue is the kid in question.
Unless she gets proper treatment, that is a HUGE red flag for what she may develop into later in life. She derived joy from seeing suffering of an animal with the intent to end it. She knew what she was doing the ENTIRE TIME and enjoyed her actions.

The first story: OP is so NOT the butthole. That child is a sociopath in the making. The fact that she was completely unrepentant, laughed about it and declared she was just having “fun” shows how completely unhinged this child is. Clearly, she has not been taught boundaries, that the word no is a completely valid response or any sense of accountability. Therefore, she has no fear of reprisals or consequences for her actions. With the whole family rallying behind her, it's of no surprise whatsoever that, at nearly ten, she's abusing animals. Which, if you didn't know, is how many serial killers started out. Anybody who defends her saying she's just a kid, that she was just playing or that OP is too sensitive or the little brat didn't know what she was doing, they're gaslighting her. The kid needs counseling. If they don't get her help post haste, they’re enabling her, and, in effect raising a monster. They're going to wish they were firmer with her when she ends up in juvenile hall or jail or prison.

@@kamion53 A verbal reprimand when she tried to harm an animal and was totally unrepentant about it? I don't think so. Obviously this type of behavior has been enabled and overlooked by her parents not to mention the rest of the family. Something tells me she's never gotten anything even remotely resembling a disciplinary glare or being forced to stand in the corner. A nine-year-old should at least have a sense of empathy. Retaliating for not getting a gift from someone by harming and trying to kill that person's pet? That's definitely not normal behavior for a child.

Even my own family picked on me claiming they were just kidding, that I needed to grow up, be the bigger person and learn how to take a joke. I may not be a parent, but I raised my younger sister and have custody of her. She called me mom. I try to make it to every occasion she invites me to. She knows that I have a problem with crowds and that I'll step away to get a breather. I've sat at a table full of food I could not eat so I could attend events.
Op and his wife didn't even stay for pictures. He told his son that they'd leave during the reception, not before it. I don't make many comments telling how I disagree with something a poster said, But with that dad who left the son's wedding early, I do actually believe that he is justified.
He let his son know beforehand and his son didn't seem to mind at all, He also told us beforehand that he has a low social battery, so He needs to recharge more frequently.
As an introvert myself who absolutely hates huge gatherings, I'm floored by your response. Are you telling me that introverts don't have the right to recharge?
His dad literally let him know beforehand, presumably asking if it was okay if he could leave early or not. His son is the asshole here because he was not truthful when he said he didn't mind.
OPs son is an adult and should be able to communicate how he feels to his parents.
Even if I was an extrovert, My dad is an introvert, And if I invited him to my [hypothetical] really large wedding, He would most likely tell me the same thing that op told his son. And I would be okay with that. Because I know that my dad has such a small social battery.
