Iris and Vivian were a great tv duo. I used to watch this show with my grandma after school and we loved it. Thanks for the post!

broke my heart--30 yrs later! how crazy is that. The chemistry between them is clear. And also clear is what a master Ms.McKinsey was. Sigh. Brilliant! Gone. One of the absolute best ever. Ever! Thanks for posting. I have the last year of Texas on tape--but I never watch it. Seeing it here--THANK you. Goodbye, Grande Dame McKinsey

I remember that scene on ANOTHER WORLD that they were talking about, when Iris slapped the guy who was holding them at gunpoint and told him never to speak to her friend like that again! Great chemistry!

How fitting that Beverlee McKinsey's final scene as Iris was with the character's one true "friend", her loyal maid Vivien.
I love how the writers mined the rich history between the two characters. I remember the Another World episodes where Jeff Stone was holding Iris and Vivien hostage. Would love it if Procter & Gamble had them in their archive holdings.
RIP to both Gretchen Oehler and Beverlee McKinsey.

Thank you for posting this beautiful scene. Such memories of a great actress in her final scene from a long run as Iris, such an unforgettable character. She is sorely missed. It's a shame that more viewers didn't appreciate this show in the early 80's. It still remains a daytime gem to me.

I just watched Iris return to Bay City, and the writers really did mess this up. They had Iris and Vivian at odds with each other. Vivian wasnt happy to see Iris and said she owed her a months back pay. I guess this was to turn Iris back into a vilian. One of the complaints about the character going to "Texas" was that she became to nice. Being a Texas and AW fan, and watching them recenetly, it just really stood out to me:)

Thanks so much SoapsGoldenAge for the offer. I passed on a DVD transfer I had of the last week of Texas (orignial VHS tapes courtesy of a dedicated Texas fan) to hfxmusicman and he, in turn, converted them to clips for You Tube. It would be great to have that Hitopah storyline preserved. So many people remember it. I loved it for forging one of the most unique friendship bonds in daytime between the characters of Ruby and Lurlene.

I always felt like on "Texas," Iris was supposed to take the same journey as Rachel did on AW ... to transition from villainess to heroine. But it just didn't work as well.

That's how the Corringtons wrote Iris in the first six months of the show. But there were a lot of complaints from fans that the character of Iris had become too blanded out. When NBC and Proctor & Gamble replaced the Corringtons as head writers after six months, the new writing team brought Iris back to her prior characterization.

This was a great scene . I think the show didn't take off the way it was suppose to was because the spin off from
Another World was not strong enough to attract enough viewers because the characters were all new except Iris and Vivian .
Iris was such a big character on another world and people love to watch a villain in disguise constantly scheming up crazy situations , they find it fascinating . Texas seemed more subdued compared to another World , it didn't have that edge that made Iris so intriguing.

@hfxmusicman you know--I don't upload or post--just not sure how frankly (I know, I should learn, can't be that hard. But until recently only had dialup!) BUT I'd be willing to send someone the vhs tapes--would just want to transfer them to DVD before doing so in order to keep a copy for myself. Have the vhs-dvd burner, would just take time..... So, here's the offer--someone really up for putting the texas story on youtube, let me know.

I am not certain how true this is, but as what happens to a lot of "intended stars", the character of Iris became marginalized over time by the dynamism of other characters (Reena, etc.), and this was something that Beverlee could not accept.

Does anyone know the reason why Beverlee left TEXAS just a few months after it's debut? Hell, she had star billing and everything. Was it over the direction of she show? I read that her husband died of a brain cancer 2 years after she left the show. Perhaps it was to care for him.
