- Broken Clutch Pedal?!?! FA5 DADMOBILE Finally Gets Shifting Problem Solved
By Aaron Gaghagen
In our last update Project Dadmobile got a brand spanking new Honda OEM clutch installed and we thought we had solved the problem of not being able to get the 6-speed into gear. Well, it turns out we were not finished with our clutch issues. You see, the fried Exedy OEM replacement clutch turned out to be a symptom of another problem. Just a month or so after putting in the new clutch the problem of getting into gear had returned.
Determined to get out ahead of the problem Aaron prepared to change out the clutch master cylinder. Then after seeing how far back the clutch master cylinder was tucked away he began to wonder if maybe it was the slave cylinder and he texted Brian. Brian had a hunch that it was neither as he had seen a similar issue with Carter's Accord and an EP3 (Willie's EP3 actually! He helps shoot and edit a lot of our videos.). He suspected it was the clutch pedal itself that had the problem and he was dead on! Shoutout to Sportcar Motion for coming through with the fix.

It literally happened to me today. Got my car towed. Good thing its my dayoff tomorrow so I'll just weld it. Thanks for this video! 💯👌
Thanks for the info!
Thanks for this video! You helped me brother figure out what was wrong with his SI and today he found your video and fixed it!
Exactly why we do this.
Yoooo this JUST happened to me last night. I was almost stranded in the mountains. Thank you for saving me a lit of money and a major headache
Sweet!
Thankyou for the info my son just bought a really clean one owner 06 civic SI loves the car but wasn't shifting correctly adjusted cluch better for a week then all of a sudden couldn't put it in gear at all. Thanks for the video I work in a body shop will bring pedal assembly to work tomorrow and weld it up thanks again
Glad it helped.
my 1999 honda civic clutch pedal bracket broke off too we welded it and its now ok, so I checked you tube for similar problem.
I just had a mechanic quote me $4000 for a new transmission claiming that I had worn synchros. I called bs and had look when I got my car back. Sure enough this was the problem :)
I bought a 07 Civic SI with the same problem. For $1,000. Last owner thought it was a transmission problem. Put a new clutch pedal Easy fix .
951CD5accord woah! That’s a major score.
I don’t understand why they used spacers versus making it longer. Wouldn’t break as easy if it were flush against the firewall
I had this same issue on my 07 tsx. Did the same fix and has been good for about a year so far
Shannon Barnes it should be stronger than before welded. Was yours cracked on the same side?
Yep. It was cracked in the same spot
@@VTECAcademy mine literally just proke at 12:30 am otw home and I'm about to get a tow
@@VTECAcademy same side
I'm so glad i found this. I jus ordered a new k tuned cmc because I thought my "already ktuned" cmc took a shit 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ i didn't even think to check the pedal. I replaced my clutch n I couldn't get into gear on my 08 FA5. 2 job day but I'm still checking wen I get home. She's been down 2 weeks 😢
Oh man, hopefully this can take care of your issue once and for all. This welded on just broke again and Aaron bought a new one.
What do you have as far as shifter accessories. Yours seem really tight. I have upgraded bushings and a short shifter adapter but yours seems a bit firmer
I also ordered mine and put it in but it still didn't fix the problem and now I'm checking the clutch pedal and it's yeah🥲
Common issue in EF chassis. I’ve removed and welded up braces on multiple EF’s in the past. Such a pain in the ass to remove the assembly.
My sentra had this same issue years ago!
Did the pedal feel different at all when pressed or just couldn’t get it into gear?
Shits wild, mine did this yesterday on the way home, thought the little pin connecting the cylinder fork and petal broke, but alas, this shit happened. Glad it's only 3 bolts and I got a MIG in me back yard.
Glad you were able to fix it easily. Some reinforcement plates would go a long way into preventing it happening.
I’ve gone through 2 cmcs unfortunately it wasn’t the pedal that broke but the actual fire wall started to push through!
That's a new problem.
What was the solution?
I had to fabricate a steel plate to reinforce the firewall the hardest part was tracing it out under the dash after I got it in the pedal felt as it should and my clutch pedal problem went away. I have had the oem cmc, ktuned cmc and now I’m no my 3rd cmc with is the 95 Honda civic cmc. Which seems to be holding up fine. I’ll let you know if it goes too.
I’ve welded mine twice. So I just went and got one from the junkyard for $16. With a 1 year warranty
I am having same issue! Swore it was the CMC!!!!
ksboi29 did you check the pedal bracket?
I had this on my accord type s 2004, UK
Does anybody have any idea how to K Swap a GK5 Honda Fit
Boa noite!
Pode informar o tipo de solda usado para esse material do pedal?
Bro putting in through the gears with the car off talking about it feels brand new 😆
😅😂
My clutch pedal rinses the cables and let then move in the pedal hole. I think of removing the pedal and doing something to the hole
I just went out to look at my FA5. I don't have that cover anymore lol. Luckily the base is not cracked.
MichaelT are you having issues with the clutch?
@@VTECAcademy I'm pretty sure my MC is going. Everytime I push the pedal in I hear a pop coming from it and when I watch it modulate there seems to be play inside the body of the MC. I'm pretty sure it is the original OEM unit.
Just happened to me tdy 😂😂 same exact spot well now I know don’t gotta spend all that 💵 for a new asssembly
Some kind of bracing would help a lot too.
im checking this today .... had to tow the car home because i could not get it into gear when car is on.
Did you find the problem
dawg this happened to me today too!!!!! lmaooo exact spot where it cracked !!!!
I have red fa5 also , were twins except mine has hfp rims
John Navarrete the HFP wheels are awesome 👍🏽
Holy shit... just at my job alone I replace so many slaves onto the welding bench
1:33 Honda R Clip not in the hole?
cant tell in my car, because my mugen shifter requires me to use 20 pounds of energy to even get into the reverse
I'm having the same issue but only when getting off the highway, I'm locked out of every gear, but when first starting the car it shifts fine. Clutch pedal doesn't look cracked, any ideas?
Try bleeding the line?
@@VTECAcademy going to try that this weekend. Thanks for the reply 👍
Man I swore my Trans was done for
Damn I just got a new clutch 😅
where did you find another clutch pedal
We grab then from the salvage yards. You can find them using car-part.com or row52.com.
MDP brace 😊
This happened on my EK.
Red EK9 it’s such an easy fix if you know what to look for
So your shifter feels better bc you fixed your pedal ?
John Navarrete yes, the cmc was not getting enough travel when the bracket bends.
I have to check mine out because it acts funky sometimes. It only has 95k miles . Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience 🙏🏼
It’s worth checking out to save yourself some money on other more expensive parts.
My 87 CRX did this...wtf Honda..welded mine andmade brace for it
HO LEE FOOK better than new! 👍🏽
mine just gave out on me tonight 😩
