Disney Doppelgängers: Maleficent & Lady Tremaine

Disney Villains Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Lady Tremaine (aka the Evil Stepmother) from Cinderella (1950) bear a striking resemblance and were both voiced by the same actress, Eleanor Audley.
They both have similar, angular looks, noble sophistication, chins that could take an eye out and those fantastic, domineering eyebrows. They are also both jealously proud of their social positions, very concerned about who is and IS NOT invited to a royal function and both become ferociously envious of the young female lead and determine to cause them great torment. And they both have the same frightening voice.
Lets take a closer look at Maleficent…
Both villains were voiced by and modeled after actress Eleanor Audley. Her she is in the 1955 Film "All That Heaven Allows" acting very much the part of her notorious Disney characters.
Eleanor Audley also played talking head Madame Leota in Disney Land's original Haunted Mansion ride.

So talented, really.
Walt Disney loved Eleanor's performance so much in Cinderella that he wanted her for the part of Maleficent while Sleeping Beauty was in production. She originally turned him down because she had a case of tuberculosis and was weakened. She recovered of course, and gave life to Maleficent.
(I learned this on the sleeping beauty commentary, as Andreas Deja was speaking because he had visited with her many times and she told him the story)

Maleficent and Tremaine both terrified me as a kid, and they turned out to be my favorite characters.
Yep that's a voice that defines my childhood, since I wore out my Sleeping Beauty VHS tape.

That's actually a really common theme, look up other famous Disney characters and their voice actors and you will see they are modeled after the real people.
May Elanor Audley R.I.P. as one of the best Disney Villains voice actress ever she has the best lines ever in Disney.

Honestly, Maleficent is one of my favorite Disney Villains! She just has a great elegant look, and her voice is very commanding. Did you know that the animator who did Maleficent in 1959 (Marc Davis) also animated Princess Aurora, as well as Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians? There are similarities between the three of them! :)

Cruella De Vil was based on the Late Actress (Mary Wicks) her last Role was One of the Voices of the Female Gargoyle in the Animated The Huch Back Of Notradame she also Played One of the Nuns in the Movie Sister Act 1and 2 she had a Long Career in Movies, TV and Theater she left the Bulk of her 10 Million Dollar Fortune to the College she earn her Degree From Astabilshing a Scholarship Endowment Fund Great Lady and Actress.
She should have voiced Ursula she would do a good job
I haven’t watched Cinderella since I was a wee lass, but it just struck me that Lady Tremaine doesn’t have to raise a hand or even her voice to be intimidating. The way she plants the idea into her daughter’s heads to abuse Cinderella is so subtle, but absolutely diabolical!
Especially in that first scene of hers, she is so... Brrrr..

This was an Incredible Masterpiece Video for Maleficent and Lady Tremaine. The Late Eleanor Audley (1905 - 1991) did Legendary Performances Bringing These Two Iconic Disney Villainous to Life.
At 2:41, you see Cinderella’s eyes go big as she takes a step back in fear. What the HELL did Tremaine do to Cinderella to make her THAT frightened!?
The only thing that is similar is the voice actress. Nothing else. Completely different types of villains. One is fueled by vengeance and one is fueled by social status
when did Maleficent actually become jealous of Aurora.
Ocfan207 Maleficent became Jealous of Aurora when all the attention was focused on and her. And when she wasn’t invited to the party event, because she wasn’t wanted that’s when she became jealous and then cursed Aurora. On the Other hand Lady Tremaine became Jealous because of Cinderella’s Kindness and beauty as well as being much more graceful than her own biological daughters unlike Maleficent it took her a while to show her true nasty colors to Cinderella after her father died within a year or so. Putting her through Psychological abuse and torment while Maleficent showed her true colors almost instantly especially when she was pissed. And Cursed Aurora to Kill her. Lady Tremaine eventually attempted to do the same thing to Cinderella but in her own Horror cinematic way. In Cinderella 3 a Twist in time. By teleporting Cinderella in to a Nightmare Version of a Pumpkin coach based off the first film. And sending her Pet Cat Lucifer to Kill her. Making her being in her Own Worse Nightmare out of a scene of something that you’ll see in Friday the 13th Or Nightmare on Elm Street.

Malificent is so my favorite disney villain. I just love it when she turns into a dragon.

IMO Lady Tremaine is the most evil of all the Disney Villains. She doesn't have magic to use as her weapon like Maleficent does, but rather Tremaine uses psychological abuse and cruelty to make Cinderella's life a complete nightmare, so to me Lady Tremaine is basically a REAL person, or at least could be a real person in our world, so that is what makes her so terrifying and evil over Maleficent. Maleficent is a fairy tale villain because she is a witch and has magic, so while she is still quote unquote "evil" it's not the same type of evil that Lady Tremaine is, they are both different forms. I actually never thought of Maleficent as evil she was just depressed because she was wronged by King Stefan and The Queen for not inviting them to Aurora's birth celebration. Maleficent had more of a logical reason to do what she did because she was depressed, whereas Lady Tremaine really didn't have a logical reason why she did what she did to Cinderella, it was more out of jealousy above anything else. So again Lady Tremaine is the most evil of all the Disney Villains.
Jay Dubbs I would have to agree that Lady Tremaine is the most evil out of all of the Disney Villians because someone like her can exist in reality. Because she abuses her stepdaughter Psychology which is just as bad as physically because it can wear you out and kill you out of stress. That’s true that Maleficent was depressed and mad that she didn’t get invited to the birth Ceramony of Aurora so she decided to get revenge on King Stephan by Cursing Aurora as well as being spiteful of her beauty in the future. Even though Lady Tremaine didn’t possess any magical abilities to torment Cinderella. She did later on in Cinderella 3 a Twist in Time possess the fairy godmothers magic wand. Which she used to reverse time to the events that took place at the end of the first movie. As well as brainwashing the prince with the godmother’s magic wand thinking that he did dance with Anastasia when it was really Cinderella. Because she put him under a spell much like Maleficent in this scene in of the movie. Than later on near the end she transformed Anastasia in to a Doppelgänger version of Cinderella. Than made Cinderella vanish in to a nightmare pumpkin carriage and sent her devilish cat Lucifer to Kill her as well as the mice. And she also bewitched the slipper so it could fit Anastasia instead.
Lady Tremaine is the most realistic out of all the Disney villains. She was simply cruel and heartless, and enjoyed when Cinderella was miserable. She didn't need any fancy magic powers or whatever. But Maleficent is pretty cool, too!
Maleficent Made 2nd place in my top 12 animated Disney villains because She's awesome. Lady Tremaine is a lower favorite but she's still cool.

Maleficent was never jealous of Aurora, you're thinking of the Evil Queen. It's considered an insult because Maleficent holds a noble title which is why Queen Leah used "your Excellency" which is used for royals. Also, it's an insult because it's saying that she is no lower than a commoner as all other nobles were invited to the christening.
You know what’s even more of a coincidence? Susanne Blakeslee currently voices Lady Tremaine and Maleficent and she does sound quite alike to Audley and gives them a serious evil tone. Not only that, she voices Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion Holiday and other classic female villains.

Lady Tramaine, and Mallefisent, are sisters, their mother is the Evil Queen, step mother of Snow White
Most people would think of Maleficent as the more evil of the two simply because she has magical powers. I think Lady Tremaine is more evil. She has no magical powers yet is able to manipulate others (including her own daughters) and people like her really exist.

I do appreciate the consistency is kept after all these years when you have the same person voice Maleficent and Lady Tremaine in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. I think it also applied to Alice and Wendy as well in the first game
I have never seen either of those movies. The animation in both -- which looks like it includes rotoscoping -- is impressive.
Maleficent is my second favorite fictional character of all times, such a tragic and misunderstood character.
Maleficent was never a misunderstood character! She is the Mistress of all evil and the only Disney villain with all the powers of Hell under her command! The live action version of "Maleficent" is one whole different story and not canon to the original tale.

OMG I knew the lady in the crystal ball in the Haunted Mansion ride sounded familiar but I never put it together, well first there's a whole lot of stuff going on in that ride, but also because it didn't look like any familiar character. Of course soon after you're paying attention to the hitchhiking ghosts in your seats. Geez 40 years later I figure this out after going on that ride a bunch of times SMH LOL.

Unpopular opinion: Lady Tremaine > Maleficent
Menacing though her presence may be, Maleficent is little more than a standard evil overlord. Lady Tremaine was cunning and manipulative. Her subtle cruelty is a big part of what makes Cinderella so special.
Not too sure if they're dopplegangers. Maleficent looks like a younger, prettier woman(albeit with green skin). But then she isn't quite human so probably never ages. There is something deeply attractive about her, though

i will have to say i like Maleficent and Lady Tremaine i came to like them more when i first started playing Kingdom Hearts because Maleficent is the antagonizer that needs the Princesses hearts to open Kingdom hearts, and in Birth by sleep Lady Tremaine is in it but the Darkness inside of her destroys her and the step daughters

eventhough malifecent is easily more powerful and controlling than tramaine I still found tramaine scarier when I was a kid idk. Maybe its because her character is more grounded in reality in terms of what she does and what her motivation is and is more easily believable.

marisa liu maybe Maleficent lost her powers after being seemingly destroyed, and was forced to live as a spitefull human. Besides, Aurora and Cinderella also share a resemblance. this could explain why she was so cruel with her, she reminded her of the one that caused her downfall. Also, in Cinderella 3, a twist in time, Lady Tremaine was able to use the fairy godmother's wand with no problems at all (and so did her daughters, but with less proficiency) as if she had experience with magic, wich is never explained, but if she was Maleficent, to handle the wand would be easy.
