- A Penn State professor has been criticised after he singled out an "average White guy" in a lecture and used him as an example of how his skin color benefits him over any Black student, during a divisive lecture posted online.

This sort of ‘shaming’ is not helping any of us. Concentrating on the colour of someone’s skin is racist, because if you believe ‘we are all the same’, then the colour of ones skin is immaterial. He actually does really engaging lessons. I’ve watched several of them on CZcams. This is his teaching style to get the students involved and focused on the lesson of the day. He brings them in to the topics and points out the different views by acting it out. It’s to help them feel like they’re in it to improve their critical thinking skills so they DONT get brainwashed just by the media. Based on the lessons I’ve watched this was definitely taken out of context and didn’t show that he’s essentially acting. I’m an independent that leans right and I think he does a good job of opening the kids minds to the other side.

Most of you have not watched his videos. I've been watching his videos for awhile and he's very good. This is a socialology class and whole purpose is to get his students to talk about issues. He talks from both sides of a topic and makes compelling arguments for both sides . If you actually watched a full episode you would come to conclusion that you can not even guess what his personal beliefs is on an issue.

Interesting. I worked for a major corporation and they were hiring. My brother needed a job at the time, was college educated, so I went to my boss to inquire about the job and put in a good word for my brother. After she told me about the job openings (the company has employees in multiple states and was growing in my state rapidly), and I told her about my brother, and she said, “oh - I’m sorry, we can’t hire him right now.” I didn’t say anything at first, because I expected her to explain (we had a friendship outside of work), but she just grabbed my arm and whispered “later.” After I got off of work, she walked with me to my car and told me “we can’t hire your brother right now, so he shouldn’t waste his time applying, you see we have this quota we have to meet by law and we haven’t met it.” I asked her to speak English, so she said “your brother is a white man.” I told her that was discrimination and she said “I know. Don’t say anything to anyone, or I’ll lose my job!” Unbelievable!

We need this teaching in Australia to change the employers' mindset. You don't get a good job or anything good if you're black and worse off with a tribal name no matter your degrees and experience. You have to change your name to even get an interview.

I'm black and I understand that I will never be able to have the same opportunities or connections as some non-black people, but this class just doesn't make sense to me. This shouldn't be taught in schools k-12. Maybe a college elective if at all. I don't really see the point in this because no one non-black could ever understand unless they woke up one day with blk skin. The fact that majority of you of European ancestry are mad tells that you believe what the professor believes in, which is 'racism'. This term's origin had everything to do with economic and political control exclusively amongst the European Colonialists and nothing to do with Africans or Asians or colour. My question is, who were you before the colour spectrum became your identity because as far as I know, it is the European who exclusively assign this colours as identity to other peoples while conviniently assigning 'white' to themselves. I wonder what goes on in their mind when they see an object that's actually white. No where in the world do people ever borther for a second to allocate colour to themselves until the European with his identity crises came up with his colour issue. As shameful as that is, 'educated' people go by it and even die for it. Very few comments on this post is addressing the real BS. That's to tell you that, you all are good students of the professor you are condemning and rightly.

even though i don't agree with this professor, i wouldn't be so quick to judge. news/media have a habit of cutting clips in a way that will result in a polarized audience. this was a few minutes out of an entire lecture.
