  • Here we have a comparison between Fender and Tokai.
There's been quite a lot of controversy between these two companies over the years so here we have a sound comparison.
Both guitars were made in the 80's.
    Which do you prefer?
    Thank you.

Fender never sued Tokai, they collaborated with them by Tokai making MIJ Fenders with a condition that Tokai would minimally tweak their guitars in order to continue.

I've owned (and sold) many Fender Strats. My Tokai TST-62 with the "E" Alnico pickups is a keeper.

My Tokai Strat is still my all time most playable and great sounding guitar and I've been at this for possibly too long. Yes, I know. Never too old ( - :

I've just bought an 82 Tokai strat and I can't imagine anything sounding or playing better. I'm selling everything else and the only other guitar I'm looking for is a similar Tokai Tele for slide work.

+srvrip41 - american strat with FR. Vox SSC55 and a few others. The Tokai is lighter than the American strat but I've always liked light guitars. But I've decided not to sell most of the other guitars

I own both hi end vintage Fender Strat ('61 rosewood ) and Tokai ST 60 Strat ('80 rosewood) - had them both for over 3 decades. Honestly they are both amazing instruments. I would never give up my Tokai. It is every bit as great a guitar as the Fender. The Tokai has more of a '64 Strat feel to the neck (not slab board) but still holds it's own in every way. There are no tuning issues with the Tokai. In certain ways the neck is even more stable than the VINTAGE Fender. I purchased my Tokai new in late 1980 in NYC on 48th Street and it has remained one of my absolute main guitars for recording. Highly recommend if you can find a TOKAI STRAT from that 80 - 81 era.

My Tokai Goldstar sound from the 80's is a fabulous guitar in its own right. Sometimes I feel it lacks a bit the 'classic' Strat tones that I associate with Fender Strats but i think if anything this is because the classic Strat tones I have in my head are largely maple fretboard and probably ash or alder body whereas my Tokai is somewhat different with its rosewood 'board and basswood body.

i feel the same about my Ibanez SA ...i love the tones ..and versatility ..but its still not THAT tone .

  • @Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040

It's kind of pointless to hire Dave for guitar reviews, he can make a broom sound like a Gilmour's Strat. Flipping guitar Jedi.

Westcoast Guitars in Canada is selling Tokai Japan guitars , I bought an amazing double bound Tele style guitar in surf green. The finish is amazing and the workmanship is top notch. Frets, neck profile, great. Glad Tokai is back in North America

Tokai strats will change your opinion about Fender. I have the AST '62 with active pickups. Pribably EMG. Not sure of manuf. date but I do know it is sooooo easy to play. It's just a friendly guitar....might even call it friend at this point.

I recently sold a custom shop fender 60's relic because it didnt play or sound as near as authentic as my tokai's do. Ive got a springy sound and a goldstar sound. My american standard is amazing though, it wont be going anywhere.

It doesnt matter what is written in the headstock. Here Tokai sounded better and you definitely cant find as good Fender for the price of Tokai. Same thing with Gibson.

These are Japanese aren't they? I used to know a guy who said he had one of these years ago and that it was a fantastic guitar. My first one was a MIJ Squier, cost me 165£ in about '92 '93 ... sold it back to the shop when I needed some money and really regret it now... but I see Tokai are only 199 on ebay brand new. are new ones still good?

even a chinese one?is there much loss in quality in getting chinese instead of japanese? I've seen so many guitars this last couple of days, different makers, different countries, different factories and prices I'm all confused again lol.

btw that fender sounds out of tune and also a few hertz below the tokai. it's like one's A440 and one's A432 edit: the tokai's sharper, fender's in tune with my guitar.

    • @maksmail
      @maksmail Před 5 lety +2

Both the Fenders and Tokais are quality instruments that only in very rare cases of combined poor craftmanship and lack of quality control suffer from tuning problems. It's almost always either poor setup or player unable to tune and intonate the instrument.
