    Hi all! In this video I describe how to make a quick & easy dropper rig that is perfect for drone fishing! This rig is also great just for general bait fishing in deep water as well. The time spots for each part are below:
    @00:00 Introduction of the dropper rig & why it's useful
    @00:46 Part 1: Picking your trace
    @01:33 Part 2: Adding a clip swivel & sinker
    @02:45 Part 3: Tying dropper loops for hooks
    @04:43 Part 4: Tying a loop knot at the top (of your rig)
    @05:58 Part 5: Connecting the hooks to the rig
    @11:11 Part 6: Tips for storing the dropper rig
    @11:57 Part 7: Showing this dropper rig works!
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________
    The items you need to make this rig (as shown in the video):
    #1 Trace: I was using 60lb Blackmagic shockleader (its pink colour is harder for fish to see)
    #2 Clip swivels: You can use any brand, the ones I use are from ali express and they're great
    #3 Circle hooks: I prefer to use BKK Circle Glow hooks
    #4 Sinkers: I prefer to use breakaway sinkers that have swivels, I buy mine from a guy in NZ who makes them himself
    #5 Scissors / knife: To cut the trace!
    #6: Lumo beads (optional): Doesn't matter what brand
    #7: Softbaits & worm hook (optional): I was using Catch Fishing Tackle Black Label Livies
    #8: Foam / plastic trace holders (optional): Just makes it easier! I buy mine from Smart Marine

    Great tutorial Dave, very clear and easy to follow, I especially like the part where you add extra loops to secure the hook, I've never done it that way before but will be following your tutorial on this in ths future. Threading the line through the sinker and then clipping it back onto the line is genius too

      @@fisheatrepeat haha, yeah nothing worse than a tutorial that doesn't get to the point. Also liked how you add the extra sinker to keep the whole rig on the bottom. Very helpful for gurnard and snapper as otherwise you often only hook up on the bottom hook closest to the sinker.

    Good stuff mate, I like that wrap you did around the hook with the dropper loop, I've not seen that one I'll give it a crack cheers. Have a look at mustad tainawa hooks, you won't bend them and they are heaps good value

    thanks for the great video! You make it very to the point and specific. Trying to make some of these rigs and try Drone fishing for the very first time with a Phantom 3 and Gannet release, so excuse my ignorance... You mention that the Drone Trace should be 4-5 Meters long, maybe I'm misinterpreting, but most of the setups I've seen show them to be only 50cm long and attached to the main line with a nail knot? Hope you make more videos!

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey mate thanks for the feedback and good luck!! Just try on the beach or a field before testing on the open water!
      the longer the trace the less the pendulum swing eh. It's 50cm trace with loop knot to the drone then onto the treble swivel then 4m below that is a clip swivel then I attach my actual hooks/rigs etc if you have fb or instagram you can find me there feel free to message/ask more I'll send ya a vid of what I mean 🤙🤙

    almost exactly how I make my drone rigs though not a fan of clip swivels on the main line (great for the sinkers) because I had 3 of them straighten out on me this season with big sharks before I learnt my lesson. Now I prefer to take the extra time to tie knots or use a proper heavy duty shark snap swivel. I also use shorter hook loops because longer ones can just twist around the main line and you don't need multiple turns making an end loop as long as you do two turns it will hold just as solid as five turns. All my drone rigs have been tested on sharks over 100 pound which tend to find any weakness in the rig real fast. Also I found best way to store multiple hook rigs is to take the hooks off when you finish the session and unclip the sinker(s). No need to double loop the hooks on and still very fast to put hooks back on and clip on sinker.

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  Před rokem

      Hey mate cheers for all that! Yea convenience for me is key I don't have a lot of time fishing and want to make the most of the time so clips are my absolute 101. I use different release clips pending on what I'm doing these are just rigs for snapper I have 400lb release clips for game fishing sharks etc never had one open once actually, I get these clips from China and they're honestly amazing.
      You're right about twisting though I want to make another few rigs with tubing to stop the twisting it's fine until you get a big kahawai etc then becomes a huge pain!
      Thanks for watching and the comment

    So this rig is attached to the reel ( braid or mono ) , would a lighter say 20kg be better at the end so if sinker gets snagged , its sacrificed .Or am I on hte wrong track ,TIA

    • @fisheatrepeat
      @fisheatrepeat  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey mate!! You’re onto it eh and thanks for watching! So my drone trace (the 4m clip on one) is basically my sacrificial trace. My mainline braid is tied with an FG knot onto around 80lb trace so if I get a bust off the drone trace beaks and not all 500m of my main line!!
      Also I’ve just finished an FG knot tutorial if interested
